  1. I'm going to give it a go this year, though I'm a bit slow off the mark! Luckily I took photos of Bella in the first two weeks. Here's 1/52, I'm not too pleased with it, but I do have a whole year to improve! 1/52 Bella by panGH, on Flickr 2/52, taken on Bella's first birthday. 2/52 Bella by panGH, on Flickr This looks such fun, I'm already enjoying all the gorgeous photos! :D
  2. I've never used 'drop' for anything, with Bella 'lie down' means lie down and 'off' is for dropping things, getting off furniture etc. I can certainly understand why it might be easier to use 'drop' especially if that is what is required for trialling, but I can't imagine myself using it, saying 'lie down' comes more naturally because that's what the dog is doing.
  3. Just the thread I wanted to see! Luckily we have small rocky areas where lizards can get out the way, I believe there is a large blue tongue hiding there at the moment. The only trouble is that I won't be able to tell if it's still around or not, and I don't want to let Bella outside if the lizard's still around as she would definitley go for it. Bella (and her visiting Greyhound friend) have caught and killed one blue tongue before.
  4. Gosh, it's hard to narrow it to five! 1.Saluki 2.Afghan Hound 3.Kooikerhondje 4.Leonberger 5.Irish Setter/Irish Red and White Setter (can't choose!) can't help but sneak in a No. 6!- Borzoi
  5. So, so glad that there's been a happy outcome! So lovely that they had so much support from the community as well.
  6. I imagine cream is the most popular colour in Salukis, from what I can tell. Personally, my favourite colours at the moment are grizzle (red, black or deer) and red.
  7. Ooh, what a lovely idea! Very clever
  8. I'm loving all these 'then and now' photos, especially all the puppy pictures! :D Here's Bella at 6 weeks (photo by her breeder) image hosting When she arrived home at 5 and a half months jpeg image hosting 10 months image host 11 months jpeg image hosting

Saluki (obviously!) Afghan Hound Irish Wolfhound Working Dogs- Groenendael Collie (Rough) Border Collie Utility- Leonberger St Bernard Newfoundland Non Sporting- Great Dane Keeshond Dalmatian
  10. Salukis are experts at zoomies! Bella can out-zoom her Greyhound and Borzoi friends, she loves running just for fun. Quite intimidating to have her running at full speed towards you!
  11. Love that photo Dxenion, what a cooperative dog you have! Here's a few of Bella, she enjoyed flinging her stocking at me whilst I tried to take pictures. :p image hosting jpg jpeg image hosting Having just dropped the stocking... image hosting
  12. Not our yard sadly, we are lucky to have fenced areas nearby where she can go offleash though.
  13. On the front of the pedigree who's name is listed? If it's your breeders name and address, you need to transfer them into your name. If your name is on the front you do not need to transfer her. I'm guessing my saying the back is filled in that the breeder has signed her over to you, and you just need to transfer with Dogs SA. Thanks! :D Shall get onto doing that then.
  14. I have a similar question to PM, does Bella need to be registered in my name with DogsSA? She's from NSW. The details are filled out on the back of her pedigree. I find it all rather confusing. :p
  15. I generally work a few hours in the evenings when other people are home, and as Mum works from home she has company for most of the time I'm at uni. The most Bella has been left on her own so far is three hours, but I imagine it could be up to five in the future and she'd be fine, she tends to sleep through most of it. If it's going to be a fairly long time she's on her own I give her a kong, or a wobbler and different toys. I give her a walk in the mornings before going out as well, so she's happy to sleep for most of the time and doesn't have too much excess energy.
  16. She's a Saluki, they're very interesting to live with! She's my first Saluki, before getting her I'd hardly seen any before, they're not terribly common. They're a very old hunting breed, great long distance runners (so it can take a while to tire her out, haha!).
  17. Wow, some really incredible photos in this thread! I hope one day my photos will be as good as some as these. Here are some of my favourites so far: Naturally, there had to be one of Bella image hosting gif Mahale, a young gorilla at Taronga Zoo image hosting gif And my favourite photo of one of my favourite chimps, Sandali (Monarto Zoo) png image hosting
  18. Hamlet and Mimi both have gorgeous smiles! :D
  19. Thought I'd post some photos of my girl here, there's some in the Sighthound thread, but people of other breeds will see here image host image hosting I wish I'd combed her ear before taking this one! image host free image hosting jpeg image hosting

  21. I'm into Disney movies so I like animated ones like Oliver & Company, 101 Dalmatians, Lady & the Tramp etc. My favourite live action dog movie is Homeward Bound, but I also love Eight Below and Beethoven.
  22. That's gorgeous, and a really lovely thought. How perfect!
  23. When I was nine I had a nice discussion with a friend who owned a 'King Charles Cavalier' and upon my giving them of the correct breed name, which they rejected that it was not a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on a count of the fact that it was a purebred, with no spaniel in there! I tried to convinve her otherwise (I was a bit of a dog breed know it all at the age of nine!) but failed. At the time I found it odd that someone would not know the correct name for their dog's breed, but since I have learned that it's not all that unusual among adults as well!
