  1. I think the "Don't worry they're friendly" type comments is just to let you know their dog doesn't actually have the intent to harm you or your dog rather than an excuse or rationale. Sometimes dogs get away from people, and hearing "Don't worry they're friendly" is a darn sight better than "It's aggressive". But I hear you, as a previous owner of a dog who was rushed at many a time that "Don't worry" tag line pee'd me off in the moment.
  2. www.greatdanerescue.com.au [email protected] https://www.facebook...9197/?ref=br_tf They'll touch base with their contacts to see what they can find out.
  3. It's almost impossible to have a reaction to something that is 75% water, the preservative is incredibly diluted - perhaps you're thinking of a different product.
  4. Rescue Remedy does have a sleep formula but it doesn't have a lot of other stuff in it. Rescue Remedy is a 5 flower formula and their Sleep one is a 6 flower formula - there is nothing else in it other than the preservative and water. I've found the best way to deal with such dogs is show them they can calm down themselves and you can teach them this through targeted games and activities, a trainer should be able to help you with this. If you wanted a supplemental type option to work with as well as training there are a few options... - A custom Bach flower remedy - I formula these myself - http://www.balanced-canine.com/#!bach/c786 - A dietary supplement such as PetArk Calm or Vetalogica Tranquil Calm - Doses of Ester C and Vit B Complex - they are water soluble so any excess is removed from the body Other: - Look at the diet - Could you have more functional food ingredients rather than ones that contribute to inflammation that also affects behaviour? - Exercise - age and breed appropriate - Fitball training, look up a DVD called 'Get on the Ball' - a safe way to tire a dog including puppies - Trick Training - exhausting the mind As tired puppy is generally more well behaved. Obviously though if the puppy is crazy around people you need those people to follow your rules as to not reward puppy for excitable behaviours.
  5. Even making your own Golden Paste with 3-5% you'd still split the daily dose in half because absorption is an issue. I get mine from here - organic, 5%, $29 per 1kg and that will last you a very long time.
  6. Raw but if I were to feed Kibble it would be Canidae.
  7. If you have a look at their Adult Lamb.... Not many functional foods there....if you're going to feed such huge amounts of grain you're going to see it come out the other end. Lamb, Ground Rice, Rice Flour, Chicken Fat, Dried Beet Pulp, Maize Gluten, Natural Flavours (Chicken),
  8. An anti-cancer diet wouldn't be processed kibble.
  9. Have had many a foster dog with seperation anxiety but haven't had one we couldn't correct. I think the quality life would be terrible for real cases of untreated/unsuccessful cases of seperation anxiety.
  10. Disclaimer: I'm not looking at feeding this nor recommending it, I'm just after info to update a database. Does anyone feed this and can tell me with the nutritional info and feed guidelines are? I saw this in a local pet store and it didn't seem to have this info on the bag and after googling I haven't got any closer.
  11. Zero - have been lucky enough to live in properties that just don't have the set up to allow for it.
  12. Great Dane Walks this Sunday the 9th of August in the following areas: Sydney (Rhodes) Melbourne (Port Melbourne) Tasmania (Glenorchy) Perth Brisbane Please see: http://www.aussiedanewalks.com for more info. Please share this post with other Dane folk. If your area is not listed you are welcome to become a Walk Leader, details at website.
  13. Blackhawk is the most commonly fed kibble in the Australian Great Dane community - although there will always be cases of different kibbles not sitting well with some dogs it's certainly not a widespread problem with this kibble. You seem to make some pretty big statements / insinuations.
  14. Only feeding a dog every 3 days is not ok no matter your rationale that's not even close to fasting principals. Just because they haven't had a case of bloat or gdv doesn't mean this practice is ok or should be used to support it.
  15. There is no scientifically proven link to bloat, any study done has contradicted the other, however one thing that did come up in the Australian Great Dane Prevalence Study with over 1,000 dogs was the Family link. There is a current study going on in regards to gut flora > genes responsible for processing/interpreting those etc. http://www.australiangreatdanehealthsurvey.com/
  16. So I was intrigued by a posters comment saying BIG DOG was cheaper because it was lower quality.....well that just doesn't seem to be the case? BIG DOG CHICKEN BARF 3 Kilos = $24.00 ($8 per kilo) Protein – 12.5% Fat – 14% Fibre – 1% Maximum Calcium – 0.8% Phosphorus – 0.5% Calcium: Phosphorus ratio – 1:0.6 Ash – 3% Moisture – 68% Calories – 790KJ/100g Calories per Pattie – 1975KJ Chicken, finely ground chicken bone, beef offal (liver, kidney, heart), pork heart, seasonal vegetables (broccoli, spinach, bok choy, carrots, celery, capsicum), apples, oranges, ground flaxseed, alfalfa powder, kelp powder, wheatgrass, yoghurt, garlic, whole egg and fish oil. *** BILLINGHURST CHICKEN BARF 2.72 kilos = $22.50 ($8.27 per kilo) Moisture maximum - 69% Crude Protein minimum - 12% (35% D.M. basis) Crude Fat minimum - 14% (40% D.M. basis) Crude Fibre maximum - 2% (6.5% D.M basis) Calcium (Ca) minimum - 1.3% (D.M basis) Phosphorus (P) minimum - 1% (D.M basis) Calcium: Phosphorus Ratio - 1:0.8 Calories: Info not provided by Billinghurst co. 17. Raw digests slower. Source Can you outline the quality difference in Big Dog BARF Patties and Billinghurst ones.
  18. I've implanted 2 dogs and the only difference (as expected) is they no longer react to bitches in season.
  19. An article you may be interested in from Jean Dodds that talks about commercial vs raw in terms of allergies http://drjeandoddspe...es#.VbbtFfmqqkp The thing is, you don't know what your dog is allergic to so swapping foods is often a pointless and expensive thing to do - instead ask your Vet for a referral to a Dermatologist. I'm presuming you have spoken to your Breeder about the situation.
  20. I've implanted 2 dogs and the only thing it has stopped is them smelling bitches in season - this is all I was expecting. If your trainer isn't getting results I would suggest getting a different one and also look at nutrition, supplementation and environment.
  21. Na we wouldn't do it either, I have a breed that is prone to bloat so I'd want someone with them in-case something happened.
  22. No matter what anyone tells you the truth is science can't tell you 100% why. We do however know that it is a perfectly normal canine behaviour just not one humans like. There are some things you can consider: If your dog is on a kibble look at the ingredient label and see if you can get your dog onto a higher quality kibble with at least 2 meat proteins in the first 4 ingredients Consider a correctly prepared raw diet Consider a multi mineral supplement to cover a deficiency aspect If your dog is on a diet, consider plumping the meal up with mashed veggies, hungry dogs are thought to be more prone Is the dog stressed, highly strung etc? If so consider using a calming supplement or turbo dosing Ester C and Vit B twice a day
