  1. There are a few theories from the wart theory to pressure points. A closer look into it at a cellular level showed that the wart theory was out the door. Sighthounds appear not to have a great deal of fibroadipose padding tissue in their bodies which would also include their pads so when weight is put on them this can create corns and which toes they originate would probably be fairly consistent with the individual weight bearing pattern of the dog - the 3rd and 4th digits are usually the most weight bearing so corns after often seen on them. In terms of removal, because they have well defined edges it's pretty easy for the Vet to cut them out although there are loads of folk like the ones here who use human corn removal products with some success...depending on owner compliance. Dremeling a valley deep enough to create a depression in the pad is used by some of the overseas Greyhound rescue groups, they then pop in one drop of corn treatment liquid into the depression, they then wrap the dogs foot up and they repeat this procedure for 2 days. Generally sighthound owners who experience this issue ongoing are recommended to avoid hard surfaces such as concrete for walks or use booties.
  2. http://store.augustineapproved.com/superheal Mix these three certified organic ingredients together and bottle in a glass jar to create SuperHeal: - Virgin Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil 1 Part (previously 1.5 Parts) - Turmeric Powder (1 Part) - Lecithin Powder (1 Part)
  3. Yep, had a friend with a bitch who had to force feed.
  4. It's actually just as low-mid qualify as the kibbles that sit next to it off the shelf. Clever marketing and front of pack graphics, in the end the ingredients panel is what tells the truth. Lot's of grainfrees are actually quite low-mid in quality, lot's of low quality fillers. TOP 4 INGREDIENTS Meat (Poulty meat & meat, duck & meat meals) | 'Meat' = vague. Vegetables & vegetables meals (including potato, peas, carrots, pumpkin) | Cheap Filler & Binding agent. Potato and Peas are common fillers/binding agents in Grainfrees Potato & Tapioca starch, Tallows & oils (Poultry and Vegetable), | Starch is pretty useless to dogs. Tallows & Oils > rendered/cheap. Beet Pulp, So really far from 'quality' if we were to compare to the likes of BARF Patties. Results now vs results 5-10 years down the track are what I personally look for > bio available quality proteins that add to my dogs long term health (species appropriate food). To the OP I would advise to instead consider preparing your own BARF, you'll find it cheaper. http://www.raw4dogs.com/calculate.htm http://rawfeddogs.org/rawguide.html If you want to go for a quality kibble at a great price i.e. $5 per kilo then Canidae All Life Stages is outstanding quality for the price vs just over $5 a kilo for this low-mid quality VIP supermarket food. Canidae All Life Stages (Limited grain) Top 4 ingredients: Chicken meal turkey meal lamb meal brown rice The comparison speaks volumes. Sounds like your dog could also benefit from a Digestive Aid such as Protexin Blue if you get problems again when you change diet but this isn't going to be budget friendly, it's a little pricey. Without an elimination diet or Nutriscan test it will be near impossible to find out of your dog has a sensativity - when feeding kibbles there are too many ingredients to be able to narrow down what the issue could have been. You also need to consider the dog wasn't always yours and the problems it had could have simply improved just with a different environment, care and just better quality food (not necc to do with grains). From memory Big Dog Barf Patties work out to around $7 per kilo so not too bad actually but it just depends on what your budget is going to be going forward.
  5. I think it kinda diverted from this when someone said crating for 8 hours when you went to work is ok.
  6. Great job folks..... My dogs are crated every night for around 8 hours, they cope perfectly fine so this sounds very acceptable to me. Don't let the negative nellies get you down. Overnight crating is very different to going to work and leaving your dog in its crate for 8 hours which someone in this thread felt was acceptable...it is not.
  7. I was personally responding to the poster who said crating for 8 hours was fine.
  8. Crating for long periods during the day is not acceptable practice. Americans seem to turn a blind eye to it which I find incredibly sad. It is not good for your dogs body to be couped up in a crate and then go back in the crate to sleep at night > what's the point of having a dog? Maybe a caged animal such as a bird would be more appropriate? I'm not against crating, I have crates but there is an appropriate way to crate. Just because a dog can hold its bladder for 8 hours doesn't mean you should expect that > you try that. It's unacceptable.
  9. Craig Murray from Premier Dog Training in Sydney may be able to assist or recommend someone who can. He trains security dogs and has a Dobe himself. 0408 113 874.
  10. How's it going Sas :) He has had 1 pred since, so not too bad.
  11. If you have a chubster dog and need to reduce its intake whilst have the dog not think it's dying you can simply add mashed veggies. I have a little Lab x that gets more Veg than he does meat but the meat portion is the correct amount to keep him lean. We use Berries, Cauliflower, Bok Choi, Kale, Pumpkin, any of those in a mix. We don't make it too 'green' otherwise the picky ones can turn their noses up at it. Pumpkin is a good one as being a fiber veggie to fill them up. Feeding twice a daily is definitely a better option - it's a more logical option as well in terms of when your dog actually needs to access the energy from its food. We generally feed meat, organs and veg in the morning and then meat and meaty bones in the evening. Seperating the bone from the organ can prevent the vitamins/minerals available in each of those meals that cancel each other out from occurring.
  12. Can someone in PR contact him, save him from further embarrassment? Surely this chap as a Manager who is meant to stop him from saying dumb things?!
  13. oops FD got caught in a lie again. Has said that he has decided not to be part of the Dog Lovers Show but the truth is that he was uninvited... Perhaps just stop lying and making yourself look like a right goose?
  14. You were lucky your dog wasn't harmed by being bowled over by large dogs. I think I would have just walked out that first day you went there.
  15. It irkes me that Dogs NSW has created panic for no good reason.
  16. I'm very cautiously going to say I think we have had an improvement as dog has not required pred....will update if there is anything to update.
  17. As a muscle therapist this video made me cringe. A number of my clients are such dogs. Very serious injuries including nerve impediment can occur with sliding/going spread eagle.
  18. I'm strangely still there too, mind you have only said 1 thing but it was blunt.
  19. Negative comments are deleted and posters banned generally.
  20. From his website: "In addition to years of experience, David has a Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services - Behaviour and Training" May 28th 2015 is when photos were posted on his page of his team getting their Tafe certificates (including Dave): https://www.facebook...?type=3 The courses teacher workers at Farmer Daves. Farmer Dave gets all the students who have to meet this criteria "You must organise access to an animal shelter/pound, boarding kennel/cattery animal behaviour or training consultancy/facillty, veterinary practice or equivalent for at least 5 hours per week" who want to do it with him...free labour...nice. The course modules are as follows: ACMACR403A Identify and respond to animal behaviour ACMCAS301A Work effectively in the companion animal industry ACMCAS302A Provide advice on companion animal selection and general care ACMCAS401A Manage compliance in the companion animal industry ACMCAS404A Develop enrichment strategies for companion animals ACMCAS409A Provide training advice to companion animal owners ACMCAS410A Conduct companion animal training classes ACMGAS301A Maintain and monitor animal health and wellbeing ACMGAS306A Assist with conditioning animals ACMOHS401A Maintain occupational health and safety processes ACMSPE304A Provide basic care of dogs ACMVET411A Prepare, deliver and review animal care education programs BSBSMB405B Monitor and manage small business operations With 3 modules out of 13 related to behaviour/training, It's hardly a 'Behavioural & training' course as he states his qualification is, however it does have some good modules in there he should have learned about better management of his facility. Mis-leading the public seems to be something that sits natural with this facility.
  21. This is going around FB now. How frustrating is it when people accuse other people of being trolls when they themselves are being trollworthy? The Statement from FD was: "As a result of this tragic incident, we are currently reviewing what dog breeds we will allow into our free range facility" So even though FD's proposed BSL is rather stupid and stems from covering ones ass rather than taking responsibility and just making some supervisory and assessment changes he tries to do a diversion tactic...this poster is saying that we shall all grrrrr at the trolls who wanted FD to take responsibility for what happened at his centre and then lying to say he won't be able to dog sports there anymore which wasn't even mentioned in the BSL suggestion *sigh* The poster then asks where else will we do these sports? Oh I don't know....everywhere else they are done? Herding, aggressive dog classes, obedience, nose works etc etc are all done else where apart from dock dogs....and you know what those other places will actually be qualified to teach you how to do them properly!
  22. The dog they think killed Wags was a staffy so totally possible. Not being said publically obviously? So I wonder what happens to the dog who killed Wags if they think they know which one it was... I don't personally think a Cav and a Staffy are similar in size? The weight difference alone...
  23. I said the same thing about his state of mind when I saw him on on tele. Surely he has other people in the business telling him he's not saying the right things / handling this the right way and making things worse for himself?
