Do Dogs Know That Different Houses Have Different Ruls?
sas replied to Loraine's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs know that when they go to my parents house there are pretty much NO rules, my parents are terrible Grandparents to my Danes! They have a leather sofa and reclining chairs, Leila curls herself up in one and when they ask her in a very polite manner to hop off she ignores them so they leave her there with her! It seriously takes some realigning when we get her back if we leave her there on holiday! -
Rescue Remedy is for very mild anxiety. There are a number of different product out there that work differently in different dogs... The meal when you're leaving could have been the cue to her that you're leaving hense creating some anxiety. So, I would continue as you are and feeding her well before you leave. Even leaving out of a different door can help that anxiety - dogs pick up on cues very easily. You might want to look at some calming supplements and have a look into a Leadership program as well in-case you have some gaps there. If you're not seeing improvement soon, contact a Behaviourist

Can Dogs Have Behaviour Problems
sas replied to Lucy's mama's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes - Caine Country BARF. Our supplements of choice that work for 'us' for better skin and mind are: Grapeseed oil, Soaked Chia Seed, EPO, Vit B, Vit C, Organic Mineral Tablets and ZeoPet drops. (We have gone through periods of supplement free times and he is best on this combination). We don't flea/worm treat either unless we actually have a problem. Having an itchy dog can be a bit of a nightmere because even if you change to raw BARF (balanced ratios) your dog could still be allergic to a certain protein or something in its' environment. If it continues, ask your Vet to refer you onto a Derm -
I've given the Heartworm injection to dogs before with no worries. People panic due to a recall in America years ago of a 'related' product 'not' the same product.

Diet change helped us. -
Good luck my friend! I've tried since Dante was 12 months old to find someone to do the CGC with. Delta have changed things up and now not that many Delta instructors can do the Award/test. I contacted Delta just recently to tell them about the deliema of not many of their instructors actually even wanting to do it. They sent me the details of 1 that would help me.....an hours drive away! Hopefully one day I'll find someone who can do it - you generally need to do a 6 week course and then the test. Where are you doing yours?

I can see it from both points of view - I would like to think my dog would ignor a dog barking int he line up but he may not and it may distract him which isn't great for our chances but then I udnerstand if it were my dog and he looked great but he was barking I wouldn't want to correct him if he's a dog that shuts down. BUT I would probably teach him how to speak so barks on command on the ring rather than all the time I know some Porties that do the same

WOOT WOOT! See you there! Just got back Dante's papers stamped NEUTER so we're ready!

Front attaching harness and your Behaviourist can show you how to use it correctly.

Separation anxiety doesn't have to be strictly related to a human. It is sometimes (not necessarily always) a case of hyperattachment, and this can be displayed towards one or more members of the dogs' social group, be they human, dog, or whatever else may live with the dog. My little guy gets upset if I leave without him if I take the other dog as well. He likes to be with as many of the group as he can. I find that he's not nearly as worried if I leave him with something really good to do, like chew on a bone. And Karen Overall's sit-stay protocol is pretty useful, I think. As for the original question, if it was me I'd drive them to an off leash area or use no-pull harnesses as others have suggested. I stated that it is 'Usually' and especially where the Owner is already talking about feeling guilty - this i.m.o should be one thing lookd at first.

If you're feeling emotions like that this is probably why you're having problems. Seperation anxiety is also usually caused by the owner due to mis-interpreted pack dynamics. I would probably reccomend you start learning and implenting Leadership before you start your training. He doesn't mind when I leave him. He minds when the older dog leaves him. He also doesn't care if I ignore him. But he barks at the older one when she ignores him. Don't worry, i am implementing leadership. I'm not worried, I'm just pointing out things that stand out to me that you may not have seen yourself that may be contributing to the training problem. I understand but may not be giving you responses you want.

Yeah I wouldn't be taking them out together until they can walk well by themselves. Walking together is a whole different challenge. Enjoy some one on one time with them, you can take them to the beach individually too

Some pups are super hard to stop during the mouthing stage and will chase after you to bite. I wouldn't pick the dog up as that is rewarding. What corrective type things have you tried?

Just has to turn into a bitch feast doesn't it.

RIP kitties, more Angels you know...

Have you tried working with them on a long line and calling them back and rewarding heavily? This way you're making yoruself way my fun than the other dogs and people. Really, a dog shouldn't be off lead if it can't recall back to its' owner.
