  1. Out at the forest today having a big walk after breed shows :)
  2. My clinic doesn't charge and I've never heard of a clinic that does charge, but I can see why a clinic might when you're transferring a lengthy history. We have a vet check over the history before sending (we usually try to send by email now), this could end up taking 15 minutes of a vets time - that is the length of a consult.
  3. Saddest dog in the world I don't wanna have a bath :( (this is the same face he makes when it is bed time too, sooooo sad!)
  4. How is she going to make 30k on the litter? What is her secret? Is she selling Tibetan Mastiffs to the Chinese at $10,000 a puppy??
  5. There is no club for my breed in my country so I am a member of the group club (South Island Hound Club). Thinking of joining up to the UK Podengo club next year, and maybe the breed club in Portugal. Also a member of an agility club, an obedience club, a working trials club, a coursing club and a sledding club.

  7. Well we missed out the 2015 Training Goals thread, so thought we better get a 2016 one in! Early start but I am in goal setting mood for next year :) Here's the 2013 thread if you need an idea about what to post 2013 Training Goals
  8. A lurcher is generally considered to be a cross between a sighthound and a working dog. They can be all kinds of sizes depending on what purebred are crossed. There is someone here in NZ that breeds collie x whippet lurchers, they are a bit bigger than purebred whippets. A quick google search seems to indicate that "Norfolk lurchers" are anything from beardie x greyhound to collie x deerhound. I would expect they could come in all sorts of sizes.
  9. We walk in any weather, if it's feeling really hot I will walk somewhere shady with water so Elsie can swim. Ping doesn't seem bothered by the heat at all. Elsie will give herself heat stroke chasing rabbits so we avoid walking in the bunny spots when it is really, really hot... Even though there is water there she will just run and run and run until you put her on lead and make her stay still and in the shade.
  10. 2 weeks until our seminar - I have not really done anything with Ping aside from food follows and teaching lots of tricks, I hope it's not too hard on Ping!
  11. I wouldn't leave, but I would never judge someone for doing so.
  12. We do birthdays - in fact it was Elsie's 4th birthday yesterday! We went for a big walk and Elsie had a big tasty dinner :D
  13. I've never had a problem with my own dogs or family dogs and bones. I work in a vet clinic and have seen quite a few bone related issues, off the top of my head in the last couple of months... A obstruction or two, bloat (30kg dog ate a lot of chicken necks) and a perforation (10kg eating rabbit). Have not seen any teeth issues or choking, but I have only been working 2 years.
  14. There are loads of places you can camp and travel with your dog in NZ. We go camping in the summer with ours a bit and never have trouble finding places to stay where the dogs can go off lead. Lots of dog friendly accommodation too - I recommend if you're thinking about it you join something like one of the NZ Dog agility groups on facebook as there are people all across the country on there that travel a lot with their dogs and have them off lead (most serious agility people have traveled to both ends of NZ multiple times!). If/when you go on the ferry don't put the dogs in the kennels, make sure your camper is set up for them to stay in there. You can't access the camper while the ferry is moving so they need crates or something in the car. Getting a camper on the ferry is no hassle, and if you join the NZ Campervan club you get cheap ferry fees. Only thing to watch for when looking for camping sites is that a lot of Department of Conservation (DOC) campsites are not dog friendly as they are located within National Parks where dogs are not welcome. Unfortunately all that gorgeous native bush is kiwi habitat so not somewhere you can walk your dogs. I'm the South Island, but have traveled pretty extensively over both islands :)
  15. Oooh really keen to keep up with when Chris Zink is here - would be happy to take a trip to see her!
  16. Have you considered hydrotherapy for Bonnie? Looks like there are a few rehab places in WA Active Pet rehab Ocean Reef vet clinic
  17. Ooo turns out there may be some baby pods in the works, feel free to PM me if you wanna chat about them :D (I'm not breeding them btw!)
  18. Just been in Australia for the weekend and purchased this very cute bandanna for Ping! Unfortunately it didn't come in his colour (green), but still cute anyway!
  19. I think a pod has similar endurance to a JRT. We regularly do 2-3 hour walks and Ping spends a lot of the time running after Elsie (who never ever walks on a walk) and chasing hares. He isn't that tired by the end of it and is still racing around... we humans are walking though. Like with a JRT the prey drive in pod is pretty intense and Ping does chase anything that moves, but he does come back pretty quickly.
  20. He is just such a fun and out going little boy! He is instantly best friends with every person and dog that he meets, has a great recall, is super affectionate and cuddly and always up for anything that involves action! Handles big long walks like a pro but equally happy spending the day at the office chilling out :)
  21. Just some photos of my sweet boy :)
  22. Portuguese Podengo Pequeno - barking! Ping has a LOT to say! But I do love his enthusiasm for life "We're going for a car ride!!" "we're doing training!!!!" "Elsie is running!!!" "Elsie won't play with me!!!" "There's someone outside!!!" "There's someone on the other side of the baby gate!!!" "A bird farted!!!" "The chickens are close to the fence!!!" "Elsie is staring at something!!!" And all the other typical sighthound behaviour, if that bothers you :)
  23. I think the reason a lot of vets get concerned when they hear about raw feeding is because they think people are feeding just meat, and if you're feeding just meat the your pups calcium : phosphorus ratios will be out, as meat is high in phosphorus and low in calcium.
  24. There's been some debate around this lately in NZ, and as one conservation scientist said "we don't TNR ferrets and possums, why would we TNR the cats?".
