  1. Why would you let a child out on the street if you can't teach it to keep its hands out of strangers properties? Surely by that stage you can teach them things like "don't get into strangers cars" "don't put your hands into strangers properties" "don't take candy from strangers".
  2. I've got a handling spot with Kamal in NZ in October! So very excited :D
  3. I would recommend talking to a specialist veterinary surgeon that has done a lot of orthopedic surgery, and find yourself a good animal physiotherapist.
  4. Why's that? Worried about grass seeds? Or snakes? hahaha
  5. I have lost Elsie over the top of the hill quite a few times chasing hares
  6. Took the camera out today to our favourite mid-week walking spot. It's gorgeous and has lots of fun terrain to jump about in, and we hardly ever see other people or dogs! Off exploring Not very keen on jumping the stream, Ping does not like getting wet! Recall face, he is SO cute! Love that my little sighthound does still come when called too Gotta catch Elsie! My handsome boy! 8 months old :)
  7. Have you ever seen anything as cute as this prance?! Yeah he is a muscly boy! Does a lot of running, jumping and climbing when we walk in the hills and forest :) Yes planning on doing agility, we have started a little bit of training, just tunnels and work around wing jumps at the moment. He is 8 months now, so 1 year until he can compete! We have agility nationals down here in Christchurch in October 2016, so hoping to have him ready to compete in Jumpers C grade by then. Will be about the only time we see a 4-way height split in the South Island so teeny tiny Ping might have a chance :D
  8. Ping has been out to the shows thus weekend and was a very good boy! He scored himself two best puppy in group awards and made LOTS of new friends :)
  9. Once. The gate latch had bent and popped open in high winds. I had let Elsie outside to toilet and she wasn't scratching at the door within a minute like usual, I looked down the side of the house and the gate was wide open. I ran outside and called her and she came running back... Had been across the road and up the street a little
  10. He is a hefty 3.7kg now :) He is very good at staying out of under my feet, I've yet to stand on him! I think a challenge in heelwork will be getting him working close to me as he prefers to stay 20cm away! I've been doing one of Kamal's FDSA classes with Ping, his food follow is the absolute cutest thing I have ever seen. OMG his heelwork prance is sooooooooo cute.
  11. Ping is just about 8 months old now, and is still the sweetest and best boy! We have been working on a little bit of heel training now, in preparation for our handling spot at the upcoming Kamal Fernandez seminar, and have our second conformation show this weekend (first time eligible for challenges so here's hoping the judges like him!) Just read in the NZKC gazette this morning that my application to have pods recognized as a coursing breed has been accepted
  12. Would love to, but so much $$$! Ping won't be ready yet then either Any Aussies thinking about coming over for NZKC 2016 Nationals? Will be in my home town :D
  13. Some of those facial expressions remind me soo much of his dad!! Cute!
  14. I'm happy to chat about giants if you want to send me a message. One of my best friends breeds them and I have helped raise a couple of her litters, babysit her giants now and then and have done a bit of sport training with all of them :)
  15. Elsie was absolutely psychotic about lure coursing from the first time she saw it! It is her absolute favourite dog sport! :)
  16. Hi Hype! Nice to see more photos!! :D Ping met his two sisters a few weeks ago at a seminar, he thought they were very pretty!
  17. First snow trip! Ping was not impressed with the snow :D
  18. I have a station wagon with custom crates installed in the boot. The crates are on top of a wooden shelf, so I can store some stuff under the shelf in short plastic containers with wheels (toys, poo bags, little cones etc) and I can fit tall skinny things under there like my camping chair, weave poles/tracking posts. Big stuff goes on the back seats (hurdles, tunnel).
  19. They need to go look up some of the rotties doing working trials in the UK! Easily doing 6ft scale walls :)
  20. Pet therapy here is volunteer work too. I know of a couple of people that do conservation work, it sounds pretty enjoyable if you like the outdoors and hiking. They tend to have terriers, cockers or GSPs and they take their dogs home with them. The dogs here are generally trained to indicate the presence of predator scat and are muzzled and trained to avoid native birds like kiwi. A lot of the scent detection type jobs are through army, prison services or police here, I imagine Aussie is the same. There is a private drug detection company here though, that go to schools and offices for random drug searches. Perhaps look up something similar there?
  21. The people posting photos of "markers" drives me up the wall. It got so out of control here for awhile, people threatening to kill people they caught putting these markers up, and people removing the markers. One that I saw being shared in particular (by something like 1500 people) was a surveyor's marker, and quite a few surveyors went on the group and pointed that out. Everyone was already worked up by then and were saying the surveyor's should put notes in letterboxes to say that they're putting markers up so no one gets scared. Because surveyor's don't have better things to do than alert the neighbourhood. No wonder our roads are taking so long to be repaired after the earthquakes  The lost/stolen dog groups on facebook insist there is an underground dog fighting ring around here now and that loads of dogs are being stolen every day... But you know, when I look at the biggest online place to list lost/stolen dogs here there are 10 dogs listed as missing in my city, 9 of which ran away on walks or escaped gardens. One was stolen (a bulldog). The facebook group posted awhile back that a whole heap of dog carcasses were found dumped at a river, turns out they were rabbit carcasses (wild ones that had been shot). Oh and there was a dog 'stabbing' here too, a dog was stabbed while in his garden and the owner was out. Everyone went crazy about it, offering to hunt down and murder whoever did it, huge rewards were offered for info, and people donated money to the dogs vet care of course. A week later the owner admitted the dog had actually been in a fight with their other dog in their garden..... oops. I hope everyone got their money back. I'm sure dogs are stolen, and I don't leave mine outside the supermarket or loose in the garden (because truth be told, I would want to steal Ping if I saw him outside a supermarket!) but I don't think there is an epidemic here like some people are alluding to.
  22. I'm a veterinary nurse and do hydrotherapy. I used to do some dog training for a company. I quit dog training as I found the hours weren't suitable for me (always working weekends, I like to have my weekends free to compete in dog sports) and I found a lot of the clients were really unpleasant. I really enjoy what I do now, in vet nursing there are a few different routes you can take depending on what you're into. In NZ Search & Rescue with dogs (USAR, LandSAR & Avalanche SAR) is all volunteer work, not sure if Aussie is the same. I have a friend who has just got a job working with customs, not working with dogs yet, but I think she hopes to make a career move in that direction one day. Usually the dog handlers are hired from within the company. Do you have any specific questions?
