  1. If I were you I would discourage people from bringing their dogs to your home, your dog is humping to show the visiting dog that they are on his territory and that he is the boss and every time he does it the behaviour is reinforced. He is an Amstaff and if a fight does start he is sure to finish it. You need a qualified behaviourist to assist you.
  2. Don't cosset her, take the toys away, feed her less and give her more exercise, she should have been over this behaviour long ago.
  3. Yes you are simply offering them too much food. I feed a kibble meal early morning, a chicken wing for lunch and another kibble meal at night with a little mince mixed in, that's all they get.
  4. Hips have vastly improved in my breed since breeders began xraying. When I started in the breed in 1974, bad hips were common and some dogs were severely affected, however today the vast majority of dogs screened have normal hips and the breed average is 12. Elbows have never been a problem in my breed and most dogs score 0/0. To the best of my knowledge all breeders in Australia score hips and elbows prior to breeding and neither of the two breed clubs will advertise a litter via their website or newsletter or even give a verbal endorsement unless both parents have been fully health tested. When I was in the U.S. I attended a seminar given by the president of OFFA and she advised that they had conducted a long term study on Golden Retrievers and saw definite improvements when breeding only from dogs with excellent or good hips. In my experience hip and elbow scoring all breeding stock is definitely improving the health of our dogs.
  5. To find out if they're pregnant :) It also gives you an approximate idea of the number of puppies, however the last ultrasound I had done showed 5 or 6 puppies according to the vet and she had 10.
  6. Regular grooming is also important, I go over my show boy on a daily basis, that way I find any little tangles and remove them before they turn into knots. It is far easier to do a quick groom every day than leave the dog for a week or more and then have to deal with the result. I'm not keen on Aloveen either, I think it's better suited to short coated breeds, the conditioner is completely useless on my dogs.
  7. I have owned a dog who ate rat bait, I took her straight to a vet who induced vomiting, gave her a vit k injection and a three week course of tablets. She was fine.
  8. I don't either. Try Suit Up Sistah in the U.S., cheap, good quality suits and excellent service
  9. They arn't going for ANKC recognition? That quote from their website is complete rubbish, the real reason they aren't going for ANKC recognition is because they have no hope of getting it.
  10. They could be picking it up at the lake, the symptoms scream giardia to me.
  11. I was just wondering which overseas registry was going to register these dogs so they can then be returned to Australia and registered here. Sounds like a load of crap to me.
  12. By whom? Which registry?
  13. Sounds like giardia to me, do the dogs usually develop diarrhoea following rain? Most dogs carry giardia at some time during their lives, but very few develop major symptoms, young dogs are far more susceptible to it than adults. Try dosing them with Panacur, treat for three consecutive days and then again ten days later, that should clear it up.
  14. My dogs sleep on the furniture, eat before I do and sometimes walk through a door first However none of them are dominant. Truly dominant dogs aren't common and 'dominance' is a much over used term, very much like 'separation anxiety', as someone else said many so called dominant dogs often lack training or are trained incorrectly.
  15. Only if they've got more money than sense.
  16. You need to separate them, supervised play only. It can be dangerous to leave a baby puppy alone with an adult dog, there is too much potential for injury, especially if there is a big difference in size and weight. From what you say the older dog is bullying the puppy and at 10 weeks it is far too young to stand up for itself, it is your job to step in and protect the pup when necessary.
  17. I chose not to have children, I have always known that I didn't want children, I am not maternal at all. I don't know whether I could have become pregnant because I have never taken the risk, no unprotected sex for me LOL. Now I am older I do not regret the fact that I've never had children nor do I care about growing old alone. So no bitterness here donatella, being a mother was never a part of my plan :)
  18. Why do you want a stud dog? Is it to use over your own bitches or other breeders' bitches? If it's to use over your own bitches it's highly unlikely that one stud dog will be suitable to put over every bitch you own, it's a far better idea to use outside studs and select the dog that best complements each individual bitch. If you're hoping to offer him at stud to other breeders you will have to show him first and get a title on him because unless he has exceptional type and conformation and/or carries highly desirable lines that are unavailable elsewhere no one will be interested in using him.
  19. The breeder should not have sold you the dog, if I were you I would return him and request a full refund, no experienced, reputable breeder will sell a puppy for show or breeding if it doesn't have two fully descended testes. Unilateral cryptorchidism isn't uncommon and can occur in any dog, pure or crossbreed, but unfortunately there is a chance that the retained teste may become cancerous if it's not removed so if you decide to keep the dog he should be desexed. Personally I doubt that it will come down now, it's possible but highly unlikely.
  20. Well I've just received my gazette and read the President's Report.........Julie R you are either unbelievably hypersensitive or just intent on causing trouble because there is absolutely nothing objectionable in the report, in fact it's very good. Your post is very misleading
  21. Most poop is attractive to dogs, remember that dogs are scavengers by nature, anything that smells good will be eaten. My dogs will eat horse, cow (the fresher the better), cat and possum poo, but their absolute favorite is human (occasionally found in the park we go to after the loos are closed ).
