  1. They have also selected the healthiest, happiest looking dogs from 100 years ago and the most extreme dogs they could possibly find from today.
  2. I haven't received my gazette yet so haven't read it, but I'm sure that that this is the case, Peter definitely wouldn't deliberately set out to offend people. He was probably looking for words that would make an impact and unfortunately didn't choose wisely.
  3. Might be easier to house train the kitten.
  4. Fair 'nuf. No one has to like children. So long as you are not a Primary School teacher or Child care worker I'm okay with that. But, if I may ask, is it ALL children, is there a reason or is it just "how you feel"? How do you interact with children if required to? Do you acknowledge them or are you dismissive of them? I mean, I don't like every adult (or child) I meet either. I would have to say that I pretty much dislike all children, if I'm required to interact with them (I avoid this like the plague  ) I will say 'hello' and then dismiss them. I absolutely hate it when they push toys at me or keep asking questions, I'm up and away as soon as possible.
  5. I'm not keen on children, I actually find them rather irritating and certainly wouldn't want to be seated next to a baby or a child on a long haul flight.
  6. Humping is dangerous because if he picks on a dog who won't tolerate the behaviour a fight may ensue. Your dog won't be popular with other dog owners either. Keep your dog on a leash or a long line and work on his recall.
  7. I have got the best results from Nutro and Black Hawk, I haven't tried Taste Of The Wild.
  8. No, we haven't finished ours yet, because it's a collaboration between both breed clubs and all amendments must be discussed and agreed to by both committees it has taken quite a while. Tibbiesby2 I suggest that you contact your state breed club, like us they may still be working on it, but they should be able tell you when it's expected to be finalised.
  9. Sandgrubber you go on and on like a broken record  We all realise that you have no interest in showing and disapprove of the whole show scene, but is it really necessary for you to make disparaging remarks in every thread? You really are becoming a bit of a bore.
  10. Genuinely dominant dogs are few and far between in my experience, most dogs will simply do what works for them if they're allowed to get away with it and I think that's what Bear is doing. All my dogs do the things you mention from time to time, they also get on the furniture, eat before I do and do lots of other things that aren't recommended  However none of them are dominant and when I tell them to do something they do it. Dominance is a much overused word IMO and half the trainers who harp on about it have never met a truly dominant dog in their lives. Have you tried NILIF with Bear? I found the Triangle of Temptation also worked well with a particularly cocky young male I own when he was going through adolescence and thought he was it and a bit.
  11. I have found their predator instincts cut in really fast when offered fresh bloody mince ..or a very large very meaty roo tailbone or marrowbone to suck/chew .I got sick of pups being covered in slop , and found this much easier :) I also start pups on little balls of human mince and they wolf it down with no hesitation at all. That Pedigree stuff was crap IMO. If you really want to give them mush try Advance Rehydratable.
  12. I have heard good reports about a dog trainer/behaviourist in WA called Kathy Kopellis McLeod, perhaps you could contact her? I would be keeping your two dogs apart, only allow supervised play and the moment it escalates separate them. You have two male dogs and I realise that Bear is desexed and that you will also desex Duke when he's old enough, but if you continue allow to Bear to think that he rules the roost and one day Duke has a go at him to 'put him in his place', Bear may decide to retaliate just to keep his position as top dog. I think you need help to manage Bear and sooner rather than later, because at the moment he obviously thinks that he's the boss of everyone and everything.
  13. Very dangerous suggestion, if Bear decides that he won't be 'put in his place' you could have a fight on your hands. Taking Bear to a dog park and allowing him to play rough with strange dogs is a disaster waiting to happen.
  14. The Irish Setter bitch GCH Shadagee Caught Red Handed wins the Sporting Group at Westminster
  15. +1 a four month old puppy is pretty active in both mind and body and your dog is bored and frustrated, hence the barking.
  16. I'm absolutely gobsmacked by the above statement, anthropomorphism at its very best. I'm constantly amazed at the total ignorance of dog behaviour shown by many people on DOL. Telida......you go girl
  17. Are you using thinning shears or straight edge?
  18. We have a gate on our bedroom door, but apart from that they can go wherever they like.
  19. Me sarcastic Surely you know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. You still haven't told me how many litters you've had :)
  20. Oh I'm so sorry german shep fan, I think you've misunderstood my post, I certainly wasn't 'getting personal' and I definitely didn't think you were throwing a personal insult at me, I'm not that sensitive :) I was simply wondering how many litters you'd had as you always make a number of comments in threads of this nature, obviously you've had a great deal of experience in these matters.
  21. I have no problems at all with inbreeding if it's done by an experienced breeder who knows their lines inside and out, my foundation bitch was from a father/daughter mating. BTW how many litters have you bred german shep fan? Have they all been outcrossed matings which produced super healthy pups with great temperaments? You've never mated to an outcross and had a little nasty that you'd never had before crop up in some of your puppies?
  22. Can you categorically say that the double merle sire is deaf and blind? It is a possibility YES, but there are double merle who are deaf but not blind, deaf and blind in one eye/ear, have normal sight and hearing. AKC does decide who becomes a judge BUT the breeders decide who gets bred and shown. You can only judge from what is infront of you. If it so happens the most campaigned dogs in Collies that year happened to have a colour bias to Blue Merle then more Blue Merle's appear in the top listings. Another year it could be Sables left right and centre, do you blame the judges then? AKC can ban merle to merle. But it can't stop people campaigning 2 dogs because they are half siblings. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I've seen the top 2 dogs in a breed be Father/Son, Brother/Sister. It means that those dogs were campaigned the most AND were winning regularly. Maybe they are excellent examples of the breed and it so happens that it wasn't the only one in it's litter or from the sire etc. Judges don't (and should never) judge paper pedigrees. There is a reason why dogs are enter the ring with a catalogue number attached. Thanks for that post Lowenhart, saves me replying. I absolutely agree with what you say :)
  23. Yes it works for me FFAK. There will be results on Jim Rau too Jim Rau Dog Shows although there's nothing up yet.
