You don't wrap them up in cotton woll but at the same time you don't let them do things like , run up and down the stairs repeatedly, jump off things , take them for more than a 5 or ten minute walk ( while they are babies ), try and limit the rough play. Staffords will be Staffords and they play hard and fast. Find yourself a good chiro and see them every month or two while they are growing
-
Call me a cycnic but I think this early diagnosis ( or not ) of HD and the "preventative" surgery is a money making scheme. There is no way on this earth I would be making any decisions about surgery on a young pup. I'd xray and hip score, some time around 12-18 months and go from there. I would limit his activities to walking and playing on flat ground. No stairs, no excessive jumping and not over doing it on the leash. ETA: Our baby Staffords see the chiro on a regular basis. Over the years we have found it very beneficial to keep them aligned, whilst growing and maturing.

Mine are allowed to eat off my fork. Sessy drinks the milo left overs out of the glass and licks the bottom of bowls that have had milk or yogurt in them. I'm not fussed

Make sure the bitches have been swabbed and there are no nasties. I'd be seriously pissed if I booked my bitch in and there was a problem from him serving two. Raw food and lots of red meat will keep him going.

Which Is The Most "dog Friendly" State.
WreckitWhippet replied to Keira&Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
NSW is the land of the Companion Animals ACT 1998 and prior to the introduction of BSL, it had one of the best written and workable pieces of legislation in this country. It's the best state to live in when it comes to dogs. There's no restiction on numbers, there are designated leash free areas and life time registration. -

Why Don't You Holiday With Your Dog?

I can imagine the response to " Hello, my name is Warley. Can we please book your fine establishment for two weeks. I'll be bringing one child, two Whippets, 5 Staffords and maybe a couple of hounds " -
Surprisingly it's not that complicated LOL

Balance Between Your Fur Babies And Skin Babies
WreckitWhippet replied to CazReiAndKuma's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nothing changed for me, the dogs lived as they had always lived ( inside ) and nothing changed for them. Of course there was now a little person in the house but that didn't worry them or her. The two older dogs slept on my bed and remained with the run of the house, the others had their crate. Exercise meant pushing the pram at the same time or waiting until the OH came home from work and then going out after dinner ( I still do that now ) I'm proud to say that my dogs did not miss out on and wanted for nothing -
Why Don't You Holiday With Your Dog?

I don't trust anyone else to look after my dogs and with the numbers that we have, going away with them is not an option. -
it should be OK. It was just this year as far as I know.

If You Show Or Trial Your Dog
WreckitWhippet replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've retired from the show ring, but will remain active on the club committee for the time being. I did it as a way of giving back and also there were skills that I could bring to the club and help to make it more successfull. -
Yes. 10 minutes is long enough to cause a dog severe heat stress on a hot day. + 1 Try turning the AC off , leaving the windows down a fraction and sitting in the car for ten minutes. I can guarantee you won't leave the dogs alone in the car for that long ever again. You never know what can happen in that ten minutes and if there is an issue that prevents you getting back to the car, what's going to happen to the dogs ? Anyone that leaves their dogs or kids in their car and walks away, deserves to have their windows broken

Thankyou to the person who nominated me for Master Breeder of the year. Whoever you are, I know that you're one of the awesome owners that loves and cares for one of my babies and quite possibly calls me at ungodly hours

It's alright PF, Aziah doesn't give me the " how very dare you not like my Corgi " treatment and we get along fine I believe that I may be a closet Corgi fancier or perhaps exhibitor in a former life. I'm not bad at picking pups from a litter
-
I agree that in general they do but I like some of Aziah's. A couple have almost converted me LOL I've even taken pics of a Corgi now LOL

There's no point in us doing it, as it clashes with with Lithgow double weekend less than an hour down the road. It's hard enough to compete on the years when it clashes with Rylstone and the Canberra Royal. It's a shame but it's not the only shows that have been impacted on by the later dates this year
-
You have more faith in the vast majority of vets than I do Most would be quite happy to see 5kg more on any of my "little" 15-17kg Staffords + 1
-
There won't be, as it's the year where all of the shows end up being pushed back on the RAS calendar. Blayney would have clashed with the Lithgow double. For those looking for the Bathurst Royal later, it's also pushed back and runs the same weekend as the BADKC triple show. Four shows in three days for anyone looking to have a big weekend away.

Tiny Dog Peggy Deemed So Ferocious All Postal Deliveries Halted To Ent
WreckitWhippet replied to Adza's topic in In The News
It's not funny and if you take out the excuses made because of size, it's a serious issue. She looks cute - but Peggy the Terrier is deemed so ferocious by Britain's Royal Mail that it has halted postal deliveries to the entire street where she lives. Dubbed the "Beast of Dorset Gardens" after the street's name, the pooch is accused of terrorising postmen and neighbours alike in the central English city of Northampton. The Royal Mail said in a letter to residents that it had halted deliveries to the street since December 7 after Peggy had attacked a postman. "Because of the dog's behaviour, he [the postman] believes your mail cannot be delivered safely and in the circumstances I have instructed him not to deliver mail to your address," the letter said. Her owners told the local newspaper that Peggy is all bark and no bite. "Peggy has barked at the postman but she wouldn't hurt anyone ". Kathleen Joyce, 49, told the Northampton Chronicle. "She has been in this family for 10 years and there is no way we are going to get rid of her." But the family's neighbours - who have been forced to make a 22 kilometre journey to pick up their mail - think differently. "It is a vicious thing and I have seen it going for the postman," one of them told the paper, asking not to be named. The local council said it had ordered the family to rehome Peggy and warned that they could themselves lose their rented house if they fail to comply. AFP -
Sessy enjoys it... No, really, she does I need to make her another feather snood, as I think I may have accidently sent that one to the US with some other coats

OMG now there's a new idea. Lock your dog away and don't let it terrorise the neighbours, the mail man or anyone else. It seriously can't be that hard. -
She's well within an acceptable weight , infact if she were one of mine, that's how she'd look. I too keep my dogs lean and fit. Putting weight on that bitch would be doing her a diservice. She is "normal"
