Please Help- Breeder Won't Supply Registration Papers (vic)
Jed replied to princess_nat_88's topic in General Dog Discussion
If she is definitely a registered breeders, with DogsVic, write to them and complain. At the same time, write to her and tell her you are complaining to DogsVic about her. If you aren't sure whether she is a registered breeder or not, email, or phone DogsVic and ask them. They will need her name and address, and kennel prefix, if she has supplied it. If she is not a DogsVic member - ask again! We'll give you some more advice. If you don't know how to find DogsVic, google Australian National Kennel Council, and when the site comes up, click on Victoria, and the address etc. for Dogs Vic will come up. Or maybe someone who is a Vic member will post it here. Do you want to show the dog? -
It seemed to me, from your post, that Ben was unhappy about the children, and would be better with no children - or at least, children coming or going. It seemed to me that he was giving constant warnings about his unhappiness. Now that you have posted a bit more, I suggest you check him for neuro issues, and also have a thyroid test done. Thyroid problems can present like this. I don't think a behaviourist can help. Hopefully, the breeder can help, but I would not send him to any rescue. I think the people who take him as a new home need to speak to you. If he is fostered, that is one more unstable situation, where he is likely to do something wrong. He needs to go from your home to a new one - with no children, and people who are not only aware of his issues, but have seen them. A rescue could only relate the issues to someone else, and there is a big chance of misunderstandings which will end in grief all round. Good luck.

Yes, it is from bull breed sites, because they are the sites written by people with experience. Nothing from wiki, that's stuff people thought. There are show CH pitbulls in USA (and Aust) and weight pull champs etc. Why not go and look at the APBT Aust site for their names and what they did? ROM is not for fighting. Remember, those lines came from USA, did they go bad on the plane over? Did they come to Australia and suddenly become big bad fighters? I don't actually think the Jeep lines are human aggressive either? If someone told me in Aust they had Jeep lines, I'd want to see a certified pedigree, thanks. Lots of people talk the tough talk. If the tabloids print a picture of a dog which attacked which looks 100% like a fox terrier, it's a fox terrier. If a fox terrier wins BOB and there is a picture of a fox terrier, it's a fox terrier. A brown dog can look like a pitbull, a fox terrier looks like a fox terrier. Unless you are blind. Then it feels like a fox terrier, unless it bites you, and then you are too busy feeling for all your fingers to feel what it is. I researched all this information years ago, and nothing has changed. Except there are fewer pitbulls. If you are too bog ignorant to see the truth when it is laid out in front of you, go on believing what you want. Just realise that you are wrong. Totally wrong. And bigoted. But if you do your research solely from the media, what can you expect? Oh, and why don't you ask Mantis - her dog never did anything wrong. Or ask Tybrax, she had a pitbull, she didn't do anything wrong either. dogbesotted Yep, small XXXX, big dog. And once there are no more pitbulls, these very people will do exactly the same to some other dog, or breed. chrisjc If you were referring to me in this post, I certainly don't tell myself I am an expert. When the newspapers began to demonise pitbulls, I believed the hype. Why wouldn't I, I'd never seen a pitbull. Others on this forum (some were owners and breeders of pitbulls) wanted to set me straight :D. I did some serious research, particularly on some German websites, and I was astounded by what I read. It was obvious even to me, that the whole deal with BSL stunk to high heaven. I did more research, got to know some pitbulls and owners, was asked to join the EDBA committe, and did some serious fighting against BSL. I've seen a lot of pitbull blood, none of it from dog fights, and scrapped with the best of them against BSL. But I am far from an expert. And I never tell myself I am an expert, but I've done a lot of research and reading, seen the stats, read about the dog attacks, spoken to people involved, saved a lot of dogs who were for the chop, so I do have some knowledge. And when someone writes twaddle, I will oppose it - every single time. I've been doing it for about 6 years now And every time there is an attack, they trot Hugh out, so he can fume and splutter and spit on camera. "That wretched breed". He's a man who never lets the truth get in the way of a camera opportunity. It's been worrying me for a couple of years. I t hought it was just paranoia. Originally "staffy" was never mentioned, only "pitbull", but "staffy" seems to creep in more and more. Cosmolo I've broken up a few dogs fights - carefully, without being bitten, and I will continue to do it if necessary.. And yes, breeders should ensure that buyers understand EVERYTHING about the pups they buy, and how to raise them right. Unfortunately, not all breeders do, and not all buyers listen. Most "dog tolerant" dogs are raised to be so, and sometimes people think they are doing the right things, but they are not, so a problem occurs without the owners being aware of it. There are a lot of aggressive cocker spaniels out there. People buy the cute fluffy pup which looks just like a teddy bear, fluffy ears, round dark eyes and all, and treats it like a teddy bear, so it grows up and is a problem. Because they overlooked the fact that cocker spaniels are a working breed, and need solid training and good leadership. And this has nothing to do with cocker rage. There are a few breeds who are similar. I think dog aggression is a problem too. However, while governments and councils pat themselves on their collective backs because they have solved all dog agression problems by banning breeds, nothing will change. What councils have done is negated their civic responsibilities, and negated any chance of being sued by ratepayers, so there is no impetus for them to actually do anything about aggressive dogs. And they don't. Anne There are sites on the internet about starved, beaten, abused, set on fire pitbulls, some of which had been fought, which bravely underwent all kinds of treatment, and licked the hands of the people treating them. These dogs can be dog aggressive, and often are - but they are rarely human aggressive. Cross breds, yes, and some bred by idiots, yes, (but that applies to all breeds). I'll see if I can find a link for you. Quite heartbreaking really. ilk Yet 90% of the dog attacks in Australia (and overseas) are by the family pet. This dog was the family pet. Lally Most people can't explain why it happened. Sometimes they miss the triggers. Easy to miss with a dog you live with. A poster posted in the general forum recently - the dog they are discussing is going to attack someone soon. I can see the trigger, and so can other posters. With this particular dog attack, I do wonder if the fact that the dog belongs to the grandson (?) who recently visited and left caused a problem? Dog very bonded to him, thought he was taking the dog with him, he left without the dog, the dog was very upset. Maybe the dog saw the grandson as his master, and didn't want to do what the grandmother wanted - growled, she chastised him - he attacked. I have no idea what the reason for this attack was, but the above springs to mind. Until some effort is made to identify why these attacks take place, instead of just knocking off the dog, no one will be any the wiser. When you read the full report of some attacks, the reason is obvious, but it's difficult to get the full report, and the people involved are often rightly hysterical, which makes it more difficult. Woofnhoof Most attacks are due to people not recognizing the triggers - which is ignorance. What lilli and Sandra say is correct. People often just do not realise that they are p%$sing their dogs off. Some think it is funny if the dog growls at them, or lunges at them. You tell people the dog is telling them to back off, they laugh. You can't teach common sense. I went through this exercise with some incredibly nice people and a boy boxer. The husband was ticking the dog off very severely - the dog was telling him he was doing it. I explained what was going on. The husband ignored me, the dog bit him. THEN he learned. The wife listened and understood. It amazed me that the dog didn't take his face off, and if he had, he would have been pts. He had been warning this bloke for at least a year. No one was listening. Now the problem is sorted. And banning big dogs would look like this German Shepherd Belgian Shepherd Rottweiler Labrador Golden Retriever Boxer Livestock Guarding Breeds All Mastiffs R. Ridgebacks Newfoundlands St Bernards Irish Setter English Setter Clumber Spaniel Malamute Husky Greyhound Collie Roughs & Smooths Saluki Borzoi Other coursing dogs over x cms tall Pointers (English, German) FC Retriever Briard Black Russian Terrier Standard Schnauzer Giant Schnauzer Akita Water Spaniels And heaps I haven't included. You need to rehome Ben as soon as possible, before there are tears. And there will be. He is not happy in this environment, he is telling you at every opportunity. This is a very difficult environment for most dogs. And it is quite possible that some of the children have either hurt him, or tormented him. Either current or past ones Choose the home carefully, without children, and ensure the people are aware of his behaviour and aware of the temperament and needs of the GSD. There is a high possibility that with the stress of the move, he will be less predictable, and the new owners need to be aware of that. Your only other option is to keep him segregated from all the children all the time. And I think this is going to be impossible. And if you stop fostering children, he will still not be safe with your children. Otherwise, have him humanely pts. Do NOT send him to the pound or rescue. He will definitely bite someone if you do that. I don't believe this environment is suitable for any dog.

What is "the same story that Whippets has just told us" please? I am not sure what she is telling us. The list of people being bitten by dogs - all breeds - trying to sort out dog fights or attacks by large dogs on smaller dogs numbers in the thousands. Most dogs, in an attack, lose the plot and bite anything at hand. No one should put any part of their person anywhere near a dog attack. Difficult when it's your dog being attacked, and likely to lose, but there it is. Lots of people are bitten by their own dogs of any breed trying to break up fights. This is NOT the same as human aggression. Most of the time, there is no proof that the attacking dog is even a pitbull. And a lot of the attacking dog are not pitbulls. I am not involved any more, but when I was, any dog which attacked was a "pitbull" but further investigation revealed that it was not a pitbull. Some were pitbull crosses, some were not. People think any tan or brindle dog is a pitbull. My friend's dog and cat were killed by a marauding dog - it was about 100 cms tall and brindle. It then went for her, so she shot it. She swore it was a pitbull. It was far too tall to be a pitbull. I have no idea what it was, but she swears it was a pitbull. It was a crossbred hunting dog. And so the legends spread. And I think Mantis is quite justified in defending her dog against attacks on his breed from people who have very little knowledge of the breed, and have been influenced by propaganda for the past 10 years. Mantis' dog, like the majority of pitbulls and crosses, has never done anything bad. He is a good dog. She is entitled to stand up for his against detractors. And frankly, some of the rah rah set for pitbulls who post on this forum are the worst possible advertisement for pitbull owners. I am not referring to Mantis. Some of them should be banned instead of the dogs. Some pitbulls are dog aggressive - that's fact. Particularly the males. They need a handler who is aware of that. Many male dogs of many breeds are dog aggressive, and they need early socialisation and training. Fortunately, breeders are aware of that, and are careful where their pups go. Having a tendency to dog aggression does not equate to human aggression, nor does it mean that the dog will actually attack. The attack we are discussing is not a dog attack, it is a human attack. A highly unlikely thing for a pitbull to do. They were known as "the nanny dog". Many S&R dogs in Us are pitbulls, many of the dogs used to search the wreckage of the twin towers were pitbulls, called in from across USA. I also suggest you go to this site and read this page. Dianne Jessup is well known and has a vast store of knowledge. http://www.workingpitbull.com/whydodogsbite.htm 5-Week Old Mauled By A Dog 9/04 JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A 5-week-old boy is dead after being mauled by a dog.The attack happened at a home off Jade Drive on the Westside Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say a man and a woman rushed the young boy, identified as Jose Diaz, to a nearby fire station asking for help. Firefighters tried CPR on the little boy until Trauma One arrived to take the baby to Shands Jacksonville. The boy did not survive. There are three dogs at the home. Animal Control officers took the dogs away. Two of the dogs are mixed, the third is a terrier. Investigators are trying to determine which dog attacked the baby. Total crap. You don't know anything about them. Dogs were bred to fight, but bred to be people safe. Fighting other dogs doesn't equate to attacks on people, never has, never will. No medium to large sized dog should be owned by idiots. There has never been a fatal attack by a pitbull in Aust. What does that tell you? Pitbulls are way down the attack list stats, even when they are numerically adjusted. Be frightened of cattle dogs, german shepherds, labradors, they are way ahead of pitbulls. Do you research before posting your feelings disguised as fact, and fact shaped by skewed media propaganda.

Good for you!! He's a quality dog. If you know his date of birth, you might be able to find out. I once had an adult boxer wished on me. His owners had apparently left town in a hurry, mafia was after them. Had a piece of paper with his details - name, likes, dislikes, dob.I phoned up breeders with the dob, and found his breeder. I must admit, I thought there were a couple of lines he could have come from, and tried them first.

I would have no hesitation in using a carrier which was a good dog with a clear bitch, if I could produce the pups I wanted. If the best pup was a carrier, I would have no hesitation in keeping it, and finding a suitable clear dog to mate it with. There are some very nice dogs around which are under utilized because they are carriers. I can't see a problem with carriers being used in breeding programs, because we can identify them, and there is no chance of producing affected - unless we deliberately set out to do that. And I wonder that anyone would be that stupid? Quite apart from the legislation. I wonder sometimes if breeders do thoroughly understand the mode of inheritance of some of these problems in their breeds, and are frightened of using carriers because of misunderstanding?

Next Door Neighbours Kids Throwing Knives
Jed replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Call the local police station and have a talk to them. If you get the right policeman he will rock around and give the kid a stern talking to. And that, I think, will cure the problem. If you can get a policeman to do this - and they should - but sometimes they wont - tell the mother what you have done. And tell her that nothing you have done so far has worked, it is very dangerous, you are not angry, but you can't allow it to continue. With any luck, the talk by the policeman will stop it altogether. -
How terribly sad. I too hope that we find out something about the reason for the attack. Paranoid thing that I am, it has bothered me for some time that once attacking dogs were all labelled "pitbulls" even if green and 5 cms tall. Since the bans, a lot of attacks have been perpetrated by staffies, or staffyx, or pitbull x staffy, and I wonder if we are in for another round of bans? Bothers me a lot. Krislin, to answer your question. I rough house my boxers and I can guarantee that it would be impossible to get one off if it was intent on harm. They are too agile, too quick and too powerful. Our games are games, and "no" is understood, no harm is meant, no dog ever becomes overexcited, but it's hard work keeping them off when they are playing. Having one attack would be terrifying. I would be toast!! Whippets Crap. All dogs have the instinct. The majority of pit bulls were, and are nice family pets. I knew a few which belonged to little old ladies and were delightful. And they were nice family pets owned by average Joe dog owner. There are pitbulls which have UD titles, and dogs which are as mild as can be. Some of the pitbulls done to death in Qld were in their twilight years, and had never been anything but excellent family companions, friends to their children, and never done anything wrong. No one is telling you about the thousands of nice, decent dogs which were killed, who had never done anything wrong, and would never do anything wrong. Dogs which lived with families, cats, kids, played, and loved their families. There are families so traumatised by having their lovely family pet ripped from them and killed, they will NEVER have another dog, and they will never vote labour, or have any regard for government. There is always an exciting cause for attacks ---- and the cause is never "pitbull". the problem is the media says "pitbull" as if that is the sole reason for the attack, and never goes into any causes. If you ever get a chance to see the reasons for attacks, have a look. There IS always a cause. NO dog "suddenly" turns. The behaviour was there all the time, but it may have been unrecognized, or it may have been fostered accidentally. Pitbulls have been throroughly demonised. A lot of the attacks are not even by pitbulls. Any dog can do serious damage. Whilst we are blaming pitbulls for every attack, government is not taking their responsibility to protect the public seriously, so these attacks continue.

Longcoat There are dogs used a lot because they throw good pups there are dogs used a lot because they have tested clear of genetic problems There are dogs used because the breeder feels they would be the best dog for the bitch There are dogs used because the breeder is inexperienced, and feels that Dog A who is as you describe, would be the one to use. I would like to cite the case of the dog in NZ, imported from England. His father is a Crufts winner. He is from an old and very well regarded kennel in England, and from an old tried and true line. He is an outstanding dog. He has been used a lot, both in NZ and with frozen semen in Aust. His pups are big winners - as they deserve to be. He has, in my humble opinion, taken the breed forward in one enormous leap. And it needed it. His pups are all over the place. I personally think that is wonderful, as they are quality dogs. I think this is all good, he has taken the breed forward. His daughters will probably be outcrossed, and his sons will stand to all sorts of bitches. Good dogs like this happen now and again, and if they are used a lot, it's all good. I can remember top dogs of the past being used like this, and 20 - 30 years on, I see no detriment to the breed by their use. I see more detriment from the use on inferior dogs or from random breeding without regard to pedigree. Breeders, once they have used a popular dog, will go on with the line in various ways. We should consider that most of our breeds were begun with just a few dogs. Some breeds were almost wiped out during the war - and recovered with the use of a few dogs. Because breeders were knowledgable and careful, the dogs we have today do not have significant problems - when compared with the dog population at large (including x breds). Poor qualilty dogs are usually due to poor quality breeders. Once the quality of the breeders improves, the quality of the dogs improves too - you see it in some breeds. New breeders enter the fancy, learn as they go, make mistakes, breed a lot of pets. They need to learn to read a pedigree, which a lot of them cannot do. Then they either get out, or they stay and make worthwhile contributions to the breed. I don't think close breeding is the problem. The quality of dogs used in the close breeding may be a problem, but there are plenty of good kennels which have line bred for decades without problems. I really do think problems would have occurred by now, rather than in the future. I used to breed horses. Good ponies with nice temperaments, which could win in the ring, or give someone a good ride. Easy to train horses, which lived long in perfect health and soundness. They could win in hand, under saddle, at sporting events, or at jumping. They were all very closely line bred to long dead luminaries of the breed. I did what the breeders before me did. My big winning stallion had ONE pony as the sire on every line on a 10th generation pedigree. He died of old age. He saw the vet twice in his life. Once he had an allergic reaction to a sting or something, and needed antihistimines. I suppose you could put that down to a compromised immune system, but I don't think so!! Once he was injured. Stud anything are bred on the same principles. Don\t blame the method, don't blame the standards, blame the people applying the method and interpreting the standard.
-
That sounds quite reasonable to me. Most of those points are items which the majority of breeders are aware of, and do anyhow. No one wants to breeds diseased dogs, dogs which can't whelp, or care for pups. I dislike that the assumption of PDE, and spin offs that registered breeders are all dishonest, lying idiots, who know nothing, and have no regard for the dogs, which is far from the case. I dislike all breeders being demonised by people who have nfi about the ethos of purebred dogs ... which is exactly the same as the ethos of purebred anything. We need to remember that it is breeders who brought the dogs to where they are. Breeders make mistakes, new breeders may need to learn more. Most breeders will choose the best stud dog, and that may or may not be the dog with the most points. Health, conformation, temperament and suitabilitity for the bitch are more important to most breeders than show wins, although show wins are important too. eg, breeder I know has a Gr Ch and imp ch in the kennel. Last litter was by an unshown dog, "because he was the best for THAT bitch". And that is how most breeders think. Shows give people an opportunity to see the dogs, and get an idea about them, but that is not the only criteria breeders choose for using a dog at stud. I think breeders themselves are the ones to decide whether to linebreed or outcross, because they are the ones who know the dogs and the lines. Genetic diversity - I would actually like some definitive proof that there is a problem before we throw our aprons over our heads and scream and wail. There is no definitive proof - saying "things will get worse" doesn't cut it with me. Where is the proof? We are importing dogs from o/s with different lines and using them and it occurs to me that I have a dog which is, as far as I know, unrelated to any other dog in the state. Line bred dogs as a rule have no problems - if you have a good line, it makes perfect sense to go back into that line to continue to produce good dogs. Norwegian regulations would be fine with me.

Temperament: The German Shepherd Dog must be even tempered, well balanced (with strong nerves), self assured, totally at ease (except when provoked) and good natured, as well as attentive and easy to train. He must possess courage, combativity and toughness in order to be suitable as a companion, guard, service, herding dog and Schutzhund. Tell us how GSD's are called in and win shows when the requirements of the standard are neither tested or confirmed Jed???. Well, I haven't noticed any cringing or running away which are called in, and they look all of those things outside the ring.
-
I have no idea why the pound did not desex it. There is no mention of health status apart from "healthy", there is no known parentage. And the dog apparently does not work.
-
What do you think about someone getting a dog from the pound, calling it a Coolie, and standing it at stud, because it is good natured and healthy? Do you think that is all that is needed for a dog to sire pups?
-
You're correct, of course, Mita. Dogs which have bad temperament, or obvious health problems simplu don't cut it in the ring. People who have never been to a dog show seem to think judges are complete cretins, unable to weed out dogs with dodgy temperaments, or other problems. Longcoat Have you actually been to a dog show for longer than 20 seconds and a sandwich? Would you like to give some examples of winning dogs with "temperament which is not desirable"? Not at any of the shows I've been to. If the standard says "bold" a dog which is not bold wont even be called in!! And you obviously don't want to name your interest, or area of expertise. A little research shows that the usual suspects are still driving the anti-purebred bus. Check out http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=A...63a8906d88dd9a6 (hmm, dunno about that, hope it works!!) You need to pay to get the full pdf. Leads me to wonder whether someone who doesn't understand what standards are, and is publically pushing cross breds, is the person the government, RSPCA etc should be listening to? Never mind DogsNSW giving $30,000 to. What for, DogsNSW?

I would give it - on the way to the vet. It can't hurt, and it may do some good. However, I wouldn't rely only on the Vit C to do the job. I agree with whoever mentioned dry bites- the vit C may have "cured" them. I would never rely on it instead of vet treatment. Some vets use it in conjunction with "regular" treatment. If you give it, watch it, as it stings a lot, and the dog may bite you Having said that, I keep a bottle in the fridge. I gave some to a cat which had tick paralysis, and 4 hours later, she was vastly improved. Ended up not taking her to the vet at all.
-
If the dog is a carrier, I would only mate to a clear. That will give you clear and carrier. The only way, as I understand it, to get affected, is to mate carrrier x carrier, which I would not do. If I particularly wanted to retain the lines, I would mate the carrier to a clear dog of the type and bloodline I wanted, and hope that a suitable pup would be clear. Then I would mate that clear pup to the carrier I wanted to use. I am not sure of the ins and outs of the law in Vic, but if you test the pups which you may keep, I think you can sell the other carriers as pets, to be neutered and not bred from, if you notify the new owners that the pup may be carrier, and explain what that is. If I did a mating which gave me affected pups, I would pts. However, I think there are sufficient nice dogs in Vic that you should not have to do this. In the past, with serious hereditary problems, before DNA t ests, breeders did do first generation matings to try to ascertain whether the dog was a carrier or not. I believe you need about 49 pups to be sure the dog is not carrying the gene.

Agree with the last post. Ask the trainer to show you how to teach the dogs not to pull. They don't want to be pulling, they want to be good dogs. But no one has trained them, so they don't know how. You need to train them. And you may need the trainer to help.
-
I notice the RSPCA will call out the fire brigade to get a cat which wont come out from under a house, and will get a cherry picker to get a bat from a tree ......... which their, or our public resources pay for. But they only do that for the TV, apparently. Someone who is down on their luck is a good target. It would appear that it would be more socially acceptable for the RSPCA to take the cats, help the woman out, and return them to her once she had sorted our her life. This is not a lot of cats for someone who has a house. People's circumstances change. She obviously wont have that money, so she will go to jail. I suppose at least she will have a roof and food for a while. Or more likely, they will garnishee her pension, and she wont be able to live at all. the alternative would have been to surrender those cats to the RSPCA t o care for until she got on her feet, but at the exorbitant rates they charge, no one could afford it. And you can't do that anyhow, they knock them off. and of course, all the cats will be put down now. 90% of purebred cats in catteries have cat flu. Cat flu is not a death sentence. All we have to go on is the newspaper report, so we can only discuss that. But, a corollory is the old gentleman on Brisbane's southern side who featured on Animal Rescue some years ago. He had a lot of cats - stray cats who had wandered onto his property. He was feeding them. They showed them on TV. All looked in pretty good condition, lounging around outside, full of mince and fish, and sunning themselves. RSPCA took them away - 99% were "too sick" to be rehomed, lots had cat flu. They didn't look too sic when the TV footage was taken, so I can only presume that they got sick at the refuge, or like Clifford, there was nothing wrong with them, but they were euthanased anyhow. Despite the fact that they were not cats the old gentleman had sourced, but cats which had wandered onto his property, he was fined quite a lot of money. He cried when they took the cats. They lost me right there. Their attitude to BSL hardened my feelings for them. I used to take in stray cats too -- they'd wander in after some &*^%& dumped them. They weren't doing any harm, and I was happy to feed them - because they would have starved otherwise. Homes were impossible to come by. So they lived out their lives, warm, well fed, and nabbing the occasional mouse. Some migrated inside the house. Not after seeing that program on TV. No way. What;s wrong with them doing what they advertise they do, and actually HELP people in need??? More profit in nabbing the animals and fining the poor bloody owners. And yes, the human children would be returned.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I suggest you find a trainer and get some help with this. It is not a big problem to overcome, but difficult to give advice on a forum.

I have no idea. It seems to me pretty obvious that people could write to their stateCC (if they are members) write to their state/federal MP join their state RSPCA and go to AGMs. Run candidates Get the combined force of the CCs to find someone to approach the TV channels with a series of 1/2 hour shows on the great things about purebred dogs. Flyball, agility, junior handlers, whelping, raising pups, conformation shows, the rationale behind judging, people breeding guide dogs, people breeding assistance dogs, guide dogs being trained, dogs being prepared for shows - grooming, training, bathing, loading up the dog trailer, setting up at the show, the camaraderie at shows; taking a pup from birth to the ring .... all that stuff, split into 1 minute segments, would, I think be rivetting to people who love dogs and have no idea about pedigree dogs. RSPCA show is popular, how popular would a show about good dogs doing good things be? And it wouldn't cost much, if one of the TV channels took it up. If someone knew a student doing film, he would probably love to do a pilot. If not, maybe one of the channels would like it. Petitions? No point. What exactly do you petition against? Think about it. Whatever you write, it's going to sound like spoilt kids who have dogs with a problem and don't want to change. Once the public knew the truth about breeders, and registered dogs, the animal rights loonies would have no hope, because popular opinion would be against them. Remember, the RSPCA spend $M1.2+ telling the public how cruel docking was, and what bad baskets the breeders were for cutting through "bone, sinew and muscle". All these things have been discussed in various places, and there is a lot of talking and rah rahing, but nothing is done. I've been pushing this ever since the danger became apparent. People wouldn't support BSL because they didn't have a pitbull/didn't like pitbulls. Some of us, some no longer here, put the truth about pitbulls in front of the forum, and most of the members accepted the truth. And they still do, but few fought for the pitbulls. Now we have people coming to the forum glorifying pit fighting, so the advantage we got for the pitbulls will soon be gone, and this forum will be like most of the others - anti pitbull. Even the people who own bloody pitbulls wont s tand up for them. They are too busy bignoting themselves. A pitbull would be a breed I would never own, but I was happy to stand up for them, and do all I could. By our efforts, we had some of the legislation changed in Qld. People wouldn't support anti docking, because they either didn't have a docked breed, or they didn't approve of docking. No one supported the Scottish Fold cat, because they didn't own one. No one will support those of the breeds who will be banned, except the owners, and there aren't enough of them in any breed to be effective. Very few seem to see the big picture -- Every time another ban is enforced, more walk. And finally, those who are left will look around and wonder where everyone has gone. In the beginning, they will be happy to get 10 point BOB, but as more clubs fold, and fewer shows are held, they wont find 10 shows to title their dogs. Queues for registered pups will be longer than they are now, and buyers will buy crossbred, rather than wait 2 years. "The public" will realise that hardly any purebreds are being bred, and blame the breeders. The CCs, as far as I can see, are about as much use as a bicycle to a fish. DogsQld used it's usual limp wristed opposition to the mandatory desexing bill in Qld. Thank God the DPI asked for submissions. The submissions (mostly by breeders) turned the tide, because by the time DogsQld realised they were about to be mandatorily desexed out of existence, it was far too late. I really don't have any idea. I'm sick of fighting. I'm sick of being accused of being paranoid, and then finding the people I fought tooth and nail about what I believe suddenly were on my side. I'm at the end of my life in dogs. Many of those who can see the forest have stopped breeding. Only a minority will do anything, it will happen. And that minority are all the breeders who have been in it for a long time, can see, in hindsight, what HAS happened, and understands what will happen. That minority is passionate, and will fight for the others - but there aren't enough of us, and we're too old, and tired of fighting for others. We are being driven through a race with a 10000m fall at the end. Like lemmings, we're going over. How you make others understand, and do something effective, I have no idea. Some years ago, members of this forum, by contacting a TV channel, had an investigation done into puppy farms and their practices. Maybe we should all get writing??
