  1. No I'm banned from bling????????????????. Pht I can go round that.
  2. Oh right. The one you want has a website with a branch in terrigal. The address is 425 galston road, I think there website now says pet resorts australia.
  3. How did I not know you had a bulldog. Mmmm new dog to stalk.
  4. Highly recommend pet resorts, Dural. I go weekly and have sent my boy twice for boarding with training. Be realistic about what can be achieved by strangers in ten days out of the context of the dogs normal environment. They'll be able to make a good start and give you advice on continued training. I'm there every week, the dogs are well treated and the trainers are ethical.
  5. I was chatting to a man yesterday. He bought a stafford against his wife's wishes. The dog was supposed to be his dog and wasn't to be allowed inside. One year later and they want to go on holiday, have two weeks booked in Fiji but the wife doesn't trust the young adult children with the dog. Dog is delivered to the kennels the day before leaving but that night they have to get the kennel owner to open the kennels and rescue their dog and the holiday is forfeited because the wife cannot bear to be without the dog. Well it was a stafford, who could resist.
  6. I think it's the drinking seawater thing. When I had Hank and we used to go to the dog beach my kids would go swimming with him. Never really wanted to touch them too much until they had a bath.
  7. I definitely think that dog parks are now viewed as an entitlement rather than a privilege and I do think that the more parks there are the more people think its ok to have their dogs off leash everywhere. Most of these people can't walk their dogs on leash because the dogs are untrained steam trains that would pull like crazy. The dog park at the end of my street is unfenced and surrounded by bush through which there are many pleasant walking tracks. Many owners use those tracks with their unleashed dogs and some actually think its good excercise to encourage their dogs to chase the wildlife. Of course since it's the bush they don't have to pickup any poop. I really think its too easy to get and own a dog. I believe this is part of the impulse pet shop puppy purchase problem ( alliteration not intended). Too easy to get a dog then too easy to drive to the park and let it run around because you can be bothered to train it to walk properly.
  8. Yep always happens. You have a great improvement, post it on here, the dog reads it and bam you're back to where you were. We have had so many "extinction bursts" I can't count them anymore. Don't get disheartened you just have to think back to how it was say 6 months ago and if you're on an increasingly good behaviour that's ok. Remeber the good days when you're having a bad one.
  9. Well I never got my autofocus fixed and consequently didn't take many photos the whole year. I think I will join in and I will make my garden my theme.
  10. Hank no, Jake sadly yes. I'm pretty happy at home and don't like going out so the sep Anx bothers me little. OH loves going out so its a problem for him. I try make an effort to go out at least once most weekends but I'm always clock watching. The extra effort to keep Jake safe is routine for me but OH battles with the double leashes, gates etc. I always planned on being a wires carer once the kids left school but I'm not allowed. Last count we had three one legged ducks in the garden, there's always a batch of ducklings in the pool at night and I normally manage to sneak in someone who fell out the nest in spring. Stealth wires carer.
  11. Welcome to our "speshul" dogs club BL. What is her name? I'm sure you'll do great with Nekbhet and I'm looking forward to hearing all your methods and how they work. I have weekly training and it's a huge support to me, a good trainer behind you makes all the difference.
  12. Well if you could do something like this in leather I'll have it, please. Definitely gear and not bling. This is the ruffwear webmaster harness. I probably wouldn't have bought it in a shop because it seems somewhat light weight and has plastic buckles. It is apparently tested to be sufficient to deal with much bigger dogs so I'm just trusting the specs. Its actually really the best harness I've tried. The attachment point is quite far back which works well for Houdini billdog as it pulls in the middle of his chest rather than just behind the elbows. I have it quite snug to avoid the first elbow slipping through. I love the handle on the back. We had an off leash rush us this morning and I was able to just grab the handle which stopped the whole dog-go-round and no twisted leashes. Not wonderful looking but for a reactive dog with an odd bodyshape this is great. Now if I can just get someone to do a glamour version?
  13. Well done Ziggy, I'm sending Jake to you for reform school. He's so funny, when I got to training today my trainer was busy with another little dog. Jake climbed up onto the bench in the reception area and sat and watched in a very relaxed manner. Apparently if he's sitting in a chair being a people then other dogs are fine. Last training for the year. I'm pretty happy with our progress. Although he does still have outbursts he also does snap out of them quite easily. We survived our first fight with me being the bitten and the other dog being the biter so Jakes in the clear there. He's done two boarding sessions that he's handled well and I'm quite confident in planning a visit to my daughter next year and knowing he will be fine and better behaved for the experience. Modest achievements but I'm pretty happy with them.
  14. That's a shame, I've been told the same thing too. I know that I do tend to be quite pet focussed, can't help myself.
  15. No the dog in my avatar is the Norty bulldog Jake. Hank was my big wolfie cross. Three years ago he passed and then I was kind of just reading dog stuff on the Internet, and then I found DOL and then for the first time ever checked the rescue section and there was norty bulldog. OH wanted a bulldog and so I drove to Canberra to check him out and the rest is history. You couldnt get two more different dogs. Hank was an amazing dog, nickname of Hank the wonder dog, no dog was going to compare to him so I think it was better to get something completely different.
  16. What is she saying in that first pic. Lovely string looking dog.
  17. I don't subscribe to a grand design, sometimes wonderful coincidences happen and you just go with it. Eleven days after Hank died I was sitting sobbing in the garden and this feral cockatiel flew in pursued by a horde of mynahs. She was "sent" but luckily was just what I needed. I think you should just listen and accept what is given to you. My motto is stuff happens and then other stuff happens.
  18. Cool, just thought it needed to be said. Now back to the new puppy party????.
  19. She's very cute. Now I'm going to be the party pooper. ???? Not many of us who own a reactive dog would happily take in a second. It can be quite isolating as you cannot take your dog with to many places. It is a constant worry about "what if......" And relaxing walks are not relaxing, you are always looking ahead, scouting bolt holes and waving apologetically because your dog has again embarrassed you and you hope you're not going to be reported. Your yard must be doubly secure if she's going to be out unsupervised. You must be committed to endless training, everything you do is training your dog, there's no slack days. Take her on leash for a walk and set up someone to walk towards you with another dog, can you physically hang onto her, if an off leash dog comes at you are you able to deal with her weight. Check out your area for off leash dogs, is it a problem where you live? Think about the day you get in a fight, is it something you can face? If she's declared dangerous can you work with that? I don't want to be awful but these are just things you need to think of. I happily took Jake on thinking after a few training sessions we would be fine, the truth is a reactive dog is not likely to be "cured" and you will most likely be dealing with some level of problem for the rest of her life. Ok warning over. On a more cheerful note you are about to get a lot of dog knowledge and learn a lot about stuff you never thought of.
  20. Wow, so the dog owner just went on letting her dogs run around. Unbelievable. Those aren't playful nips those are serious bites. My paper had an article on a suburb being covered in poop. Please more Rangers on foot patrols and a website where off leash dogs can be reported so that problem cm dogs can be pinpointed.
