  1. Great news. I've been following but too scared to post until he was home. Give him a big hug from me!
  2. Police have confirmed this was not the dog that attacked the child. they are currently DNA testing the dog in question which is not pictured.
  3. I just stepped in cat poo in the middle of the lounge room floor...
  4. I work at a vet that routinely does extractions on the same anaesthetic as desexing as it's less risky than putting a dog under again a short time later and gets both things out of the way. As long as she is a healthy weight I don't see the problem. Best to speak to your chosen vet though.
  5. Is it just me or does this statement ring alarm bells with anyone else? Yep and the out of control walking. I wonder which rescue she got it from and what kind of pre-adoption assessments the dogs go through.
  6. I use tennis balls but only for fetch and remove after, my dogs don't chew them though.
  7. Always heaps of working dog breeds, swf and hunting mixes, but I have noticed a real hike in mini dachshunds lately.
  8. Well the threat of starvation was pretty real since he spent 3 months after that slowly starving to death and eating his dog saved his life.
  9. I know some boarding facilities have separate quarantine areas and other still require vax as well as quarantine areas.
  10. It depends on the anaesthetic agent used as well. Also if they use premeds or not.
  11. It does depend. Call up tomorrow and ask when they do dentals, we have a separate room for dentals and more than one vet so can do them in the morning, some clinics do them in the afternoon. If in the afternoon then a drink of water in the morning (around 6 or 7am should be ok)
  12. we advise any time before 7pm the night before and take water away before they go to bed that night.
  13. My friend has a kelpie stud and occasionally gets a pup with no natural instinct and gets it desexed and rehomes it as a pet. He has done that with quite a few and I've occasionally taken a pup on with no instinct and rehomed it as well. Some farmers prefer to cull non workers as they don't want to hassle of rehoming etc or don't have connections. I understand their position and as long as it's done humanely it's better than the dog being dumped or put in a country pound already overflowing with failed workers and not a big chance of being adopted.
  14. Who says he's not feeling terrible? Who says he doesn't feel quilty every day? He killed his dog and ate it to survive (the only way he could think of at the time) and you wouldn't eat an entire german shepherd over 1 day, he probably kept the meat for a long time and he did lose a HEAP of weight so obviously didn't find much else to eat. His dog kept him alive twice. No one said he is not feeling terrible or racked with guilt. In fact one commenter who appeared to know him said he will always regret not taking a sat phone with him. People are saying that they do not believe they would do the same thing under the same circumstance - although I doubt many people would put themselves in that position in the first place. He made bad choices and will have to live with the consequences. He made the only choice he thought he had. Starvation is something else and I only hope you and others never get to feel the utter despair that starvation can lead to, not to mention the complete feeling of isolation on top of that. he would have been a psychological mess. I'm not saying I wouldn't eat my dog because when in a situation like that (possible badly made choices aside) who knows what I would do.

  16. Wow people are being pretty harsh. I'm sure this guy didn't take his dog as a walking lunchbox. He got stuck for 3 months! He made the terrible and harrowing decision to eat his dog. Starvation changes our outlook and I'm glad you guys are all so perfect that you'd never ever make a mistake. It's easy to sit at your computer in your nice comfortable houses and say you'd never do something.
  17. I couldn't imagine being in that situation. Poor man and poor dog. the whole situation is terrible. No blame cast. I wasn't there and I don't know what went down. Just all around sad.
  18. Storm sold Dog World to Lance over 12 months ago, why he kept the name is beyond me. I have had nothing but praise for Storm he gave me really good discounts not only for the rescue dogs but for my own dogs, he groomed a lot of the dogs that were at DAS over the years that came in in appalling condition. Maree CPR I had a conversation with someone about 3 weeks ago about an experience they had at dog world and then a few months ago about the same place. They didn't give a time frame so don't know when it happened.
  19. Similar reason to what happened when I gave a dog back after adopting it. ^
  20. Whippet club of nSW really helped me out with a pretty bad neglect case in Gundagai. Kaz is awesome.
  21. I've heard about dog world. apparently quite a few of their practices are shoddy.
