  1. Very scary indeed. We aren't in the 'danger zone' but surrounded by bush...
  2. Geez, he sounds like a nasty piece of work. Using a dog to try and intimidate someone is pretty low.
  3. I find it a bit hard to stomach that PR manages to canvas so many donations to pay to keep ex pound dogs in kennels and boarding situations. It can't be much of a better life for them, especially the ones that can't socialise well with other dogs or people well. These funds would be better off channeled into rescue dogs, supporting foster carers, subsidised desexing for the needy, programs for pensioner pets etc. I have to concede the fact that PR does a bloody great job at getting money off people, I just wish it could actually be used to benefit animals in general rather than the way it gets spent.
  4. With respect, I find that a really awful and insulting comment. +1 I was involved in rescue but I wasnt suited to it emotionally and youd definately consider me unrealistic. As far as Im concerned every dog is worthy of effort time and money but unfortunately not all are suitable So a dog that is exhibiting severe aggression towards children or people in general is worth it? I love dogs but realise that some dogs cannot be helped. They are worth your love and compassion of course but not worth the money and time and resources better spent on a more rescue worthy prospect. I agree with this, there are animals of all types out there who are generally bad tempered, including humans. I think it is rare, and the majority of issues are caused by their treatment, but I don't think it is 'a worthwhile use of time and resources' to try and struggle uphill with an animal with an unfavourable disposition when there are many sweet tempered animals around. I am not talking about easily correctable issues such as toilet training and obedience, I am thinking more of general nature if you know what I mean.
  5. At least that cat had good cause to be scared, the one near me doesn't have a provocation like that...
  6. I have a greyhound in my home at the moment who was 'listed' by PR due to the fact she was in Hawkesbury pound, and she is a loving, sweet natured dog. PR had nothing to do with her adoption from the pound beyond the fact that she was 'listed' by them as my friend purchased her direct from the pound. When PR lists virtually ALL dogs in HP and BP, it is a bit drastic to say that none of them deserve to live. We arn't talking about the ones who are "nice" dogs, the bad that PR does in the way they do business far outweighs the good that they "may" do, the general public are not aware of PR's sending dogs all over the place, unsuspecting people who feel sorry for the dogs who have issues, or not being told about their issues thinking they can "fix it" the experienced ethical rescue groups who have been doing this for many years and some for decades will not take these dogs that are fence jumpers, people or dog aggressive as they are hard to rehabilitate and rehome and you never know whether they will revert to their original ways, so we concentrate and move heaven and earth for the really "nice" dogs, and yes the dogs can change once we get them home, we access them and get experts in and I for one will always go with the "experts" advice and yes I have had to PTS a couple of small dogs, one was only 4 kilos and around 12 months of age, his issues were unpredictable and I could not ethicall rehome him. Maree CPR Just responding to the idea that all dogs listed by PR are 'baddies'-- I think the problem with PR lies in the fact that they do not discriminate, and properly assess, the dogs that they are promoting. Some are good dogs, most likely these will get adopted direct by the public (as in Pearl's case) or go to legitimate rescue. These dogs probably didn't need the PR promotion anyway, but they got it all the same as they advertise basically anything canine that goes through BP or HP. I don't like PR more than anyone else, their arguments are illogical and designed to appeal to the emotion of the Everyman. What I disagree with is the blanket labelling of every dog advertised them as being dangerous to "public safety" when every single dog that goes through two fairly busy Sydney pounds gets advertised by them in some way.

  8. T. Very polite email! I would have been blunter, lol.
  9. I thought the same thing, but I think a collie is the answer to most situations in life :p
  10. Beautiful photos-- I need to use my camera more often and stop being lazy and using my phone.
  11. This thread is quite passive agressive! There are some ignorant types in most places, vets are no exception.
  12. Yes this is quite a large cat, though it may look bigger than it is as it has a really thick Persian type coat. It makes horrible yowling noises and comes out at you just for walking past-- people cross the road to avoid it. I don't know either of the neighbours on the other side, I wonder if they have problem with its territorialism.
  13. No music, glitter, or backgrounds. Something stylish and minimalistic. Contact details on the front page! I hate trawling through sites just to find a phone number. Customer recommendations and reviews, photos of previous dogs, up to date show results for the breeder's dogs
  14. We have a hard time rehoming black greyhounds, definitely. What a lot of people don't realise is that black is easier to keep clean, seems to shed less (in my experience, anyway) and can look really amazing for fairly minimal work. Keep a black greyhound reasonably trim and the light reflects off movements in the muscles, looks beautiful. My absolute favourite is black greyhounds with white socks.. Look at his fancy feets :D (Panterka's ff, Spanna) Beautiful boy, I am fostering a black greyhound here ATM but she is blowing all her coat out so not very shiny.
  15. Our Red Lea does the feet too, they are really cheap
  16. That is a stunning colour, I am in love <3
  17. Love the Xmas ornament in the foreground... Very nice looking cat
  18. Yes the picture plays on all the public wants to think...
  19. Beautiful photos, hope things improve for poor Struppie
  20. I am surprised how many like black and brindle best, I thought supposedly they were meant to both be unpopular colors. I have always loved brindles...
  21. I never knew anything about the history of parvovirus, thanks for sharing.
  22. Don is the vet we are going to be using too, my TB gelding came from Dubbo and they are who his past owner used. Now we are moving up there makes sense to use them!
