Kids only act the way that their parents, and society in general, have taught them how to act. As a teacher, I've seen that all that instant gratification they have in their lives means that they never learn the values instilled in children a few generations ago. The 'bad' ones could be more readily kept in line knowing that if they didn't toe it, they would get a thrashing. Nonetheless, I love children, and am saddened that people here would like to 'lock up ' a 7 year old. They don't reason the way an adult does at that age. Scrubbing filthy cages and hanging laundry for the RSPCA every weekend would be more apt IMO.

I quite fancy having a beagle when I get older, but at the moment I am definitely more interested in the large and giant breeds. Don't think toy breeds would ever be my thing. I have a suspicious feeling I might be an old cat lady.

Spiders don't freak me out, unless I find them in my kids bedrooms and then I get a bit crazy, venom that wouldn't have much impact on an adult can be life threatening for a child (or dog). On the whole I quite like them, especially the hairy ones. I hate hate hate cockroaches though!

I thought dry food with meat meal was a good thing as it was pre-dehydrated? The rep from Canidae is coming around to see me next week, I have to say their kibble smells heaps nicer than pro plan does.

I asked my rough breeder in the first contact, towards the end of the call though. I didn't want to get there, fall in love and find they were out of my price range.

Interesting thread, I love all the nifty setups. I have 5 children and a pram in my wagon, so there is no room to swing a cat, let alone fit a crate.

I think we can assume now that they are not screening for suitable homes.

Ah, okay. Is she then subject to your typical breed legislation-- cannot be sold, must be desexed, wear muzzle in public etc? Sorry for all the questions-- just trying to get my head around it all. I didn't know that pounds were excempt from the BSL about not selling or rehoming.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but my understanding was that as a restricted breed, if a ranger picks them up wandering they would be immediately euthanised? I saw this one at Blacktown Holding Facility impound 1205362 on the dogs for sale page here http://services.blacktown.nsw.gov.au/petsonline/AnimalsforSale.aspx. Not the first one I've seen either. Two questions, can they really sell them? And how do they decide it is a Pitt bull and not an Am Staff with no papers?

I think that staff get really bored places like that and do try and make conversation. In my opinion, what she did was fairly harmless, be different if she was handing advertisements out to every customer who walked through the door.
