  1. When I used to take Shabby to the dog park every day, lots of the people there always asked me what she was. I haven't come across anyone in the area that I live in that knows what a PBGV is - but they all comment on how gorgeous and how long she is. I've taken her to the local markets a few times but she's not really comfortable in large crowds with everyone wanting to touch her. She's really not that interested in most people although sometimes she meets someone, usually kids, that she will show more than a normal interest in - Her last owners had little ones so maybe she still misses them. I must admit though that if you were to walk past me with your Basset, I would be one of those people who would ask if I could say hello - I love them - My parents had them when I was growing up.
  2. I have a couple of these - Usually they are on my bed or lounge where Crumpet leaves them - Anyone who sees them always asks me - What are they for?
  3. I can do you up a ' Happy 1st Birthday Miah ' decal that you can stick up on a wall or glass door in either cut out lettering ( purple of course ) or as a sticker with a white background and purple text. No charge to you ( you would have to let me know the length and height though and the Font style ) Then after the party you can just peel them off.
  4. I grew up with Bassets and Pound/RSPCA Dogs - My first dogs as an adult were 2 Rotties and after them a Bullmastiff. When I lost him I wanted to try something totally different and smaller so I went for a Scottie - I got my Bulldog because they are one of the breeds I always dreamed of having at least once and I am the 5th home that the PBGV has had - I won't be getting any more until I say goodbye to these 3 ( hopefully not for a long long time ) and then it will be just a one dog household. I keep saying to myself ' no more bulldogs ' after this one but I don't know if I'll be able to stick to that. I'll have to wait and see what condition I'm in when the time comes as to what breed I would be able to look after.
  5. I love Chet and Bernie - I've just finished book 4 in Peggy Webb's ' Elvis ' mystery series - He's a Basset Hound who used to be Elvis Presley in his former life.
  6. My bulldog Crumpet got stung on the pad of her foot in May at the dog park just after we arrived - She had a shaky paw for about 5 mins and then she just kept walking - Lucky for me one of the regulars bent down to say hello and asked me if her eyes always looked like that or I probably wouldn't have noticed until I got her into the car or home. Of course it was late Sunday afternoon so it was a mad dash to the 24 hour Specialist Centre - Took about 30 - 40 mins and by the time I got there she was unrecognisable - The vet found the stinger and pulled it out and they gave her a couple of shots and a course of prednisolone - Her face went down after about 1 1/2 hours - I've never seen anything like it before - She had a face like a balloon her skin was stretched so tight.
  7. Has there been a decrease in itchy skin since they've been on it? I mainly changed over because the PBGV has a patch near her rear end that gets really dry and itchy for her and she also chews at her belly and back legs - have seen major improvement in her coat and she's definitely not chewing herself. The others have never had problems with any food I've fed - they all get raw / veges / yoghurt and cheese as well as the dry - I can't say if it would be the same for everyone's dogs but mine all seem to be doing well on it, skin and coat wise. My local pet shop still had the old version on the shelf today so it will be a few months till I can try the new one.
  8. My 3 just finished their first 12 kg bag - The bag states ' Made in Aust. ' Nestle Purina in NSW. It's the first fish based dry I've ever tried them on - so I'll be going back for another bag. My bag is the previous one ( has a different dog on the front )
  9. Was it Cid with the prolapsed bowel - I don't know how to add a link directly to the thread.
  10. I'm so sorry Jules, for both you and your OH - take care of yourselves. RIP beautiful Joey.
  11. I'm sorry Jules, I too hope the cortisone helps Joey. Take care, both you and your husband. I'll be keeping you and Joey in my thoughts.
  12. I got Crumpets path results back this afternoon and all is clear - no cancer. I can breathe freely again. She's going so well - just has to go back this Friday for a follow up. She's not too happy being restricted in everything she wants to do and I keep getting foul looks, not uncommon from my stubborn girl, but she's certainly lapping up the extra attention. What's next for my unlucky ( so far ) little one? Who knows - I'll just have to handle whatever gets thrown her way. Thank you once again to all for their replies and well wishes and to Jules, I wish you all the very best with your Joey - I'll keep you in my thoughts.
  13. Crumpet is home finally - She's zonked out on one of the dog beds. Fed her a small dinner and she's done a huge wee ( no blood - all yellow again ) Path results were not yet in when we left the specialists so they will phone me with those. She looks so much brighter than a few days ago. They kept her in for the second night because she wouldn't eat - not even Roast Chicken and she's never fussy with her food. In the end they left a bowl in with her and went around the corner to watch and she scoffed the lot. Just got to keep her quiet - so she'll be attached to me on a leash when she' s up and moving - no stairs so I'll have to carry her ( i've got 4 stairs to the back yard ) and no dog park for 10 days until she goes back for a check up. So, alls well for now - It's so good to have her home - Shabby has been running from the back yard to the front door for the last 2 days looking for her but Hoover didn't even notice that she was gone. Thankyou to everyone for asking after her - I will post up the results when I get them - Fingers crossed for nothing sinister.
  14. I'm picking her up at 2pm today - Just about to leave work. I'll get back on a bit later once she's home and settled and let you know - Thanks for asking. I'm a bit nervous to tell the truth - Keeping her quiet is always hard after she has operations.
  15. Crumpet is out of surgery and awake - Her stomach has also been tacked to her abdomen as well to hold it in place - They did say they would be sending the spleen off to pathology but there were no visible signs of tumours. Hopefully she can come home tomorrow or the next day all going well. Fingers crossed for a good outcome when the results come in. My poor little girl can't seem to get a break lately - She must be due some good luck.
  16. Thank you all for the replies and well wishes - I will go and have a look through the palliative forum and see what I can find. I feel so lucky that I didn't agree with my local vet to just bring her home and monitor her overnight - I would have panicked if something had happened in the middle of the night being so far from the specialists.
  17. My beautiful Crumpet has just been taken into emergency surgery to have her spleen removed because it was twisted - I'm just wondering what sort of recovery period she will have if she comes through the surgery. I'm completely confused and can't remember anything the specialist said before they took her in. Everything happened in such a rush - Is there anyone who has any advice or anything that could relax me a bit before they call - I'm terrified - She has been through so much over the last 10 months. They estimated 2 - 3 hours to do the op.
  18. I got Elsie. Cute, intelligent and trainable right ;) I did pick those, along with energetic - active and obedient - I didn't know it was her though until you posted. I wish I could say the same for my three mine don't even look any of those things, well maybe cute but I'm biased.
  19. Bullmastiff from me too - I lost my boy coming up 9 years ago. He was amazing with both kids and other animals - big or small.
  20. I don't know if this is a stupid question but how do they know what colours they are going to get if the puppies aren't even born yet - and I don't think the colours ( Lilac or Black ) are recognised here ( yet ) - If they're not recognised can they still register the pups?
  21. I just bought 3 - So thank you for putting this up. If I can't get mine to use them ( they prefer the lounge or my bed ) I will come back here and pass them along for someone else to try.
  22. My girl Crumpet ( she will be 6 this year ) is on Wellness senior kibble - chicken/beef mince - yoghurt - fruit and veges - She supplements her diet with one of the other dogs poop if I am not quick enough to pick it up. When I got her at 12 weeks I did feed her on what her breeder told me he'd been feeding her.
  23. My Girl has been to Stafford for her Cruciate - Airway - and also for a couple of nights of observation when she had what we thought were seizures all in the last 6 months. All the staff were wonderful considering I was a blubbering mess whenever I had to leave her there. Jason Beck did her cruciate and airway surgery and he was fantastic both times. I also know a couple who had Richard Eaton-Wells do their dogs cruciate and they also speak highly of him.
