  1. Thats great, I am sure the GR was thinking that he was the only one that did it right
  2. Thanks Denali! :) Only a true dog enthusiast would call these hooligans 'cute' I needed his name on the harness so people didn't think I had named him after Ronan Keating :D Yeah that'd be embarrassing  Where did his name come from Yonjuro? :D The name comes from the Japanese term for a masterless samurai - I actually teach Japanese swordsmanship and often travel to Japan. To me the name was pretty original and was strong, I felt it matched the free spirited nature of a Siberian Husky. He was born on Halloween so his full pedigree name is Articpower Grey Ghost - the breeder let me choose his pedigree name (minus kennel name obviously)and all littermate had a halloween theme :) Yonjuro, is there a bit of a Game of Thrones happening here too? I saw the Winter is Coming on Ronin's harness :) Well spotted I kind of feel a bit sheepish about that once I found how how many people bought Huskies after seeing the series, only for them to end up surrendered once they found out how much work the breed requires Still it makes some people laugh and there is no doubt they prefer winter :D
  3. I do the 2 leads when my almost 7 year old daughter wants to walk my Husky. I always take up slack or take over completely when we approach traffic, people, dogs or birds I let her try on her own when in a fenced in area with no other dogs or people. If a husky took off, I don't think there are many kids that could hold a lead, in fact some adults would find it difficult. We put the work in right from the start for good loose lead walking, but I would never trust a kid under 16-18 to be able to stop a launch from Ronin if he decided to go. So sorry that labadore had to go through such a frightening experience
  4. Thanks for passing on your story Seregil :)
  5. Thanks so much Oso and Erny, I will pass on your very helpful advice
  6. thanks VM, It sounds more serious than I thought. See quote below, "Your such a legend Jase! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. One thing I would say is that ibs and IBD are different. I'm not pointing this out to be an a**e but to explain how it started. Bear got sick, very sick and it triggered this disease that she now has....my son has the human form which is called ulcerative colitis (have you heard of Chrons disease? It's very similar). This started in the summer of 2013 and she was on deaths door at one point. We tried cutting out all grain, fats and feeding hypoallergenic ingredient based foods and trying to manage the condition through diet alone. Unfortunately she was so sensitive that as soon as the steroids wore off she was unable to retain any remission from the illness and became violently sick. We've tried weaning her into meds specifically for IBD that are not steroids but the same thing happened. Given how serious it is there is a big part of me that thinks personally it could well be addisons disease (inability to produce enough corticoids) even though the vet doesn't agree, lol. Either way, I guess it doesn't really matter as the treatment is steroids of one type or another. I'm so glad that your forum friend has managed to find something that works so well for her and yes fresh kangaroo meat would be hard to find, tbh I haven't seen rabbit for a while either but we do get chicken, beef, lamb etc...very easily available......I haven't given up hope that one day she might be in a stable condition enough to try again at finding an alternative way to control her condition and I shall certainly bare this info in mind for when that time comes. . It gives me hope and that's worth so much. I really can't thank you enough Jase for your help. Xxxxxxxxxxx "
  7. Thanks Oso :) Glad to hear you solved your cat's problem. This is what I heard from my friend, I don't think she will have read Erny's info yet? "Thanks . She has a severe case of inflammatory bowel disease/colitis. It can only be properly controlled by a regular low level dosage of steroids. Other meds have all been unsuccessful. She's had this for over a year now and as soon as the steroid wears off she starts vomitting and pooping mucous. If meds are not given quickly enough then she ends up popping rivers of just pure Crimson blood. To give you an idea of how bad it is....her symptoms are more like addisons disease that IBD. The vet however said its not addisons as different types of steroids are used to treat it and if Bear had it she wouldn't respond so well to the ones she's currently taking.....but the level of severity and threat to life is still the same regardless of what she has".
  8. Thanks Erny - I was hoping that you would see this thread. I have passed on the info you have given.
  9. aw, dont let Stan read this.He thinks he's Stan The Man. In the words of Monty Python...he's not the messiah he's just a naughty boy  No forgetting the camera Yonjuro, just when you think it's the same old same old they do something that makes you think "damn I wish I had the camera!" Great Monty Python quote and I will defo bring the camera next time :) He's our Forum Pin-Up boy. Aww thanks VM :) Rumour has it that Ronin has been asked to appear in a certain 'other' breed's national calendar, can't say more now, but just gotta get a better pic than with the phone camera. Recall is excellent... sometimes  it is the other times I worry about LOL. I will probably check it out sometime though - thanks :)
  10. Stan is a cool name - I like it :) and thats a funny story too And yep, learning to ask for a beer is very important

  13. Thanks Perse, unfortunately I don't know all of the background, but I will try and find out more. The lady with the dog is pretty vigilant with vet visits so I would guess that the relevant tests have been done, which is why I though slippery elm might be worth trying as few vets will have tried it. I have recommended a course of probiotics but the extent of my knowledge with natural remedies that might help tummy problem runs out after, slippery elm and probiotics. She is prepared for life on steroids but mentioned her fear is that long term these drugs may lead to an earlier passing than normal??
  14. LOL, I thought that as well. What a fabulous video to have. CC, love those pix you posted. Aww thanks DDD :) They were at it again this morning, sadly I left the camera at home. Twas the usual stuff though - run, wrestle, chomp each other, lie in the mud - repeat
  15. Hi all, A friend in the UK has a husky that suffers from flair ups of colitis and IBS. The last explosive diarrhoea was brought on after eating a bone. She has not been able to try slippery elm as she can't get her dog to eat it even when sweetened by honey The dog regularly has to go on steroids apparently and this clears it up for a while. Are there are other remedies that you can suggest based on my scant information ?? EDIT - Originally posted as IBS but found out it was a more serious version of IBD
  16. If she were able to do that the dog wouldn't have matts in the first place. She has the equipment. Well, I was only making a suggestion, I didn't see it mentioned that she was unable My apologies for trying to offer another way.
  17. While I agree that a call or email is best, some people are notoriously bad at returning messages. If you are a breeder and going to have a web presence then you should be able to make regular updates for important things like puppies.
  18. If it was me I would get a matt breaker, an undercoat rake with rotating teeth, a helper and a heap of tiny treats and do a small section each day for over a couple of weeks. Target a section and have someone feed the little treats while one person works on a small section. It will take patience but better for the dog in the long run.
  19. Gosh, they are both so good, I like one by just a smidgen
  20. Thanks CC :D I love your photos too, really wonderful I know, it is funny when Ronin tries to cut him off at the sand pit. You can hear Ronins frustration yelp near the beginning when he can't catch him  Thanks, yeah it is so funny to watch the antics, we both are constantly laughing at these crazy dogs
  21. Thanks HW :D Yeah, it may happen one day but really hope not. The owner is really wonderful and I am sure she would be very understanding and of course I would offer to pay for anything that needed vet attention. Ronin is lucky as he has plenty of fluff to protect himself. It is great when you come across likeminded owners and we hope for the best but accept that like kids sometimes laughter ends in tears. Poor Tigger got mauled by two beagles a couple of months ago and required mattress stitching to repair stomach muscles These bloody owners dogs have attacked a few dogs and even bitten a dog owner on the stomach and back. He has been reported but apparently they still have continued going. For his sake I hope he is never there when I am, as I am no shrinking violet when it comes to stuff like this
