The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17
Yonjuro replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
 Thanks HW, we did an enormous amount of bite inhibition training with Ronin, but I still think he is more gentle with Tigger than with my hands LOL. I still worry when he puts his mouth on Tiggers legs but so far there has been no broken skin. Last week I saw occasions when one on them had a bit of lip between the teeth and I was a bit concerned but again no squeaks or broken skin. Tiggers owner called them the "teenage punks" - I wish I had a photo from yesterday when Ronin ducked under and crawled under Tiggers tummy :D, which was probably in response to Tigger's little game where he walks between the legs of his favourite humans which is okay for me as I am tall enough, but funny when he tries to squeeze through shorter people. I find it amazing that they can play so rough but also can be so gentle and funny at the same time... anyone who doesn't thinks dogs can have a sense of humour needs to see these loonies tease each other :D -
The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17

Thanks RSA ! :D Yeah, those savage beasts definitely need muzzles  We do spend a fair bit of time explaining to people that they are just playing but when you see ones head in the other's mouth it must be alarming - they both must have great bite control though as there is never a squeak of discomfort, and Ronin has to use all his smarts to tangle with the extra 14kg that Tigger has on him :D A few others sometimes try and join in and they both always tone it down for them, but we generally pick very quiet times so they can have their sessions. -
The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17

:D Thanks DDD!! Oh, I know how you must have felt, this kind of play can certainly freak some out. Big tufts of undercoat come flying out of Ronins coat sometimes and I have seen the horror on people that don't know them or the teenage rumbles they get up to. This morning I put my hand in Tiggers mouth to remove a big clump of hair from his tongue  I am lucky that Tiggers owner is so great that we frequently have these meet ups and both of our dogs are very equal with each other but will play gentle with the little ones like a pug x that came in while our teenage hooligans were doing their normal stuff  -

... yep loving the greyhounds these days :D I was hesitant to post this pic as it looks quite ferocious but I can guarantee this is typical of some of their play that they reserve only for each other :D -

The bonus of having a Husky is their teflon coat - he is now clean with no need of a bath -
I thought I would post this in general so people could see how two totally different breeds can be best of mates... Ronin and Tigger rumble, chase each other and wrestle in a very full on manner, then they are happy to have a rest and chill before one decides it is time to bug the other and start all over again :D I think this photo show the trust of their relationship - note Tigger's tail :D
-
Or the lack thereof. :D Aww, he's just a gentle soul :) Our problem is that Ronin has been self rewarded by actually catching his prey and he obviously likes the taste :D I am sure he wouldn't have bothered if he never had success. He is however gentle with the tiniest of dogs and hopefully cats are smart enough to stay out of his yard. I have seen one cat sit up on a wall and taunt him and pray it never becomes prey.
-
I have seen Ronin stalk like a tiger, he gets very low to the ground and slowly creeps forward, sometimes even ducking his head behind a pot plant. Before springing forth :D Natural instincts in dogs is an amazing phenomenon.

Ronin is super smart, mine just try and catch the low flying ones He is that :D , when he got the last one early in the morning he still begged for his brekky and got it as the Mrs didn't see the kill. So much for Huskies being fussy eaters of small meals LOL
-
Yeah I know the pain, Ronin got his first at 12 weeks old and 2 more this month. I guess they are fair game and I suppose it is right that eats the whole bird rather than just kill or play He is super smart at hunting. This is a new pic taken last friday when he has changed up the tactics.

Horrible Herbert Made His First Birthday

Happy belated birthday Herbie you gorgeous thing :) -
...I contacted many Siberian Husky breeders around the country when I was looking - all registered with good pedigree. Quite a few were doing the desexing at 6 to 8 weeks. This was an absolute no for me. Luckily a very nice lady who I met at a sled dog meet, who is a breeder that shows and races helped me in selecting a breeder (she wasn't going to have another litter for a number of years) She was against the early desexing and helped me with my list of potentials and made two recommendations that she knew and respected after I had explained some of the responses I was getting. Each to their own I suppose, but I found the typical comment that "it makes no difference and we have been doing it for years" quite off-putting. Some were even quite rude when I asked if it was possible to negotiate a later desexing due to my desire to participate in sledding. I understand people wanting to protect "their lines", but less breeding and more careful selection of buyers seems to be a healthier option for the dogs in my opinion. The "they're just pets" doesn't sit well with me. To me, each and every dog's life and wellbeing is of equal value. Incidentally, I know of two bitches at our local park that suffer from incontinence from this very very early 8 week spaying, and in discussing this it seems quite common??

Raw Feeding Meat And Bones Only?
Yonjuro replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Vitamin D is a tricky one as it can be quite toxic to dogs if you are not careful. Raw Liver and Kidney should have enough Vit D for your dog (happy to be corrected though). Vit D is also in fish especially the skins of the fatty types. This link has some info on Vit D and dogs http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2014/05/09/dog-vitamin-d-levels.aspx -

The owner doesn't give the dog bad treats, but the lack of exercise means the dog gets fat. I tried to take the dog jogging for a while but she held me back - and I'm not fast by any means! I've never met a working breed with so little enthusiasm for exercise  Yeah, that was a bad assumption on my part. Still sad the dog has no energy.

Raw Feeding Meat And Bones Only?

Get a few of those cheap ice block trays and put the daily amount in a section, this way you just pop out what you need and there is no waste. Adding a piece of kidney to the same section will cover your organ requirements :) -
Ronin caught and ate his third bird this morning (2 this month). I am pretty sure he believes he is an obligate carnivore The cheeky bugger then conned the Mrs into giving him his brekky as she didn't see the kill. Fair play to him though, he has been hunting these doves for a while now and slept outside of which I am sure was so he could be up at dawn to hunt. He then slept most of the day! Is like a bloody wildlife doco in my backyard - Hunt, eat then sleep. He's taking this whole prey model raw diet to another level.

Weird that it is overweight - poor dog probably get lots of bad treats like potato chips etc. I just don't understand some people

...that's weird about the liver, and yeah just chuck it, cost for the amount needed to feed is so low that its not worth the risk. -
My thoughts exactly Yep agree 100% Me three!

Raw Feeding Meat And Bones Only?
Yonjuro replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would say that bones are going to be more useful than the vans for keeping stools firm. I believe that you can get flax seed meal at woolies, but when I have seen it there it has always been on the normal shelves. In the healthfood shop it is normally in the fridge. The bags cost around $6 for 500g and you only need a teaspoon per meal, apparently it doesn't have a long shelf life so keep refrigerated, I make up a month of food parcels with the flax seed meal and freeze them. I dont reckon you really need to give the oats, your diet is good and the flax seed meal will add fibre if needed. -
Oh gosh, I am so sorry for loss

Try quail eggs, they are very good especially for a small dog. I have given then on occasion to my husky and they are received like I would a Lindt chocky ball :D
