I thought it would be good to have a chat on probiotics. I have use a few different ones, from Inner Health Plus and Healthy Essentials Broad Spectrum- which are both refrigerated human types. I now use Protexin Green Label. I don't have any great need to feed probiotics to my dog, but I am of the opinion that prevention is better than cure and that around 85% of the dogs immunity is controlled by a healthy gut. So I use it to optimise the gut function and cultivate a healthy material flora. Happy to be corrected on this. I mix mine direct into his cold raw food at feeding time. Please share you thoughts and what is your preferred PB.

Wow, that is some mega concentration. I might start a thread so we can chat about probiotics separate to Jessie's issues.

I like the Protexin green label at around $45 for 250g. I don't think mixing in water would suit my dog as he is fed raw and doesn't drink as much as a dog on kibble would. Mixing it with his meat means I know the exact amount he has consumed each time. To be honest I buy this one as it seems to be liked and I think Dr Bruce Syme mentioned or recommended this one?? I bought what I thought was the best not what it cost, so happy to be persuaded if there is a better option :)

If no offense was intended, why did you not bother to read correctly instead of showing yourself up to be dick head?

TBH< it was the whole reason I waited. Mind, on reflection I sometimes say woah! Why did I do that. That's just light humour. Not 10 mintues ago, he just stood and looked at me. His stance was the spit of his dog Momma. Made me smile :) Oh me too VM

No it isn't . Chances are the breeder like many does not microchip at an early age ,until pups are microchipped they can't be registered . We don't do our puppies until 8 weeks & then paperwork is submitted pups have gone before paperwork comes back unless we decide to do fast track (same day) but we only do that in extreme cases . Your wait hasn't been long but in all fairness it is better to ask the breeder than them read it on forums . Exactly right :) I'm waiting on pedigrees at the moment for a litter who are almost 11 weeks old. I submitted the paperwork just before the pups turned 8 weeks - between waiting until they were microchipped and working out which puppy we were keeping, we couldn't submit the registration any earlier. All of our puppy people have been told what the situation is, and that we will forward their pedigrees by registered mail just as soon as we receive them. All of our puppy people also received puppy packs very similar to the one that you received, Yonjuro. A puppy pack like that should generally be the rule, not the exception. OP, if you're concerned about the pedigree, then just contact your breeder and ask :) I would certainly hope that any of our puppy people would feel comfortable enough to approach us directly to check on the progress of their pedigrees :) I agree with what you are saying. All I was trying to point out was that mine happened very quickly and everything exceeded my expectations. Not that anyone needing to wait a bit should be concerned. I would generally expect papers around 5 weeks. 4 weeks to have them done and one week for postage. I also don't think the OP needs to be concerned :)

I think this is excellent service on the part of the breeder. Way more than what I would imagine. Perhaps because the dog came some distance to you but even so I can imagine you were very happy with this. Thanks I was very very happy :) The local people also received the same with their puppies from the litter. I think this is excellent service on the part of the breeder. Way more than what I would imagine. Perhaps because the dog came some distance to you but even so I can imagine you were very happy with this.My breeder did the same. As well as a puppy pack, we got to bring home a bed AND an unopened bag of RC puppy food.I had been in contact with teh breeder for over 2 years. But the experience was great. And I got a monster, oops a wonderful puppy. Excellent, and yeah I am in contact every week since I got Ronin. Not only did I get a wonderful puppy that was 95% toilet trained, I made a friend out of the breeder who has been wonderful :) It's great to hear VM that you have had a similar experience

erm, okay, well I thought it was pretty great. Mine was microchipped at 6 weeks along with a full vet check. I said it was at one end of the scale, not something I would expect as the norm.

I received mine a few days before my puppy flew over to me :) Ronin arrived to me on 2/1/14 so paper work can be done in a timely fashion over the silly season and our breeder wanted to make sure there were no hold ups during this busy period. We also received a full on puppy pack with a thick folder containing sire and dam health tests, puppy vaccs and worming schedule, family history and photos. Plus heaps of advice. There were also two dog toys, a collar and the next worming tablet I guess this an extreme end of the positive scale

You're right about that. It's sad that Sibe's are so popular IMO, too many people wanting their own 'wolf dog' and no where near willing to put the work into them that the breed requires. They are amazing dogs (I find very little as striking as a well bred Sibe in the ring) and if I wasn't so crazy in love with the Karelian Bear Dog I would think about having one. We were very seriously looking at the breed before we got the Samoyeds. I agree 100%, you need to invest in a lot of training preferably with assistance from a professional. Without this it is a recipe for disaster. Sadly few people do this and the misconception spreads that they can't be trained and can't be loose lead walked. So these wonderful, intelligent and energetic dogs are denied the enrichment they deserve and they then destroy the house of the owner and become very difficult to live with. I also love Samoyeds and the Karelian Bear Dogs seem great from the small amount of reading I have done on them. Oh, to have the time, money(for care and training) and space for a pack of these spitz breeds :) I know one chap in Eastern Europe who has a Husky SARs dog and they have been widely used for these jobs in the past. Less now that more of the professionals are going for Malinois based on their reasoning that you can teach three Malinois the job in the time it takes to teach one Sibe :)

The Flatulence Thread Or...
Yonjuro replied to Stressmagnet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
HaHaHa! Reminds be of the Heart Dog, Gabor. He would 'do' these mind numbing farts. Lift up his own head & smell himeself. Then race out of the room to the back yard. He would stand in a corner with a look of horror on his face..... 'did I do that????' type look. First bowel movement after such episodes caused more amazement. He found it hard to fathom how he could have produced such evilness. Usually it meant he had acquired things that should never have gone into his mouth. Ah the good old days.... Huskies are know for ripping out rank ones, but Ronin is pretty good, he is on fully raw and probiotics so there is seldom a ripper. Having said that, when he had 400g of crocodile fillet for his birthday dinner he let off a couple that caused the wallpaper to peel off  -
Ahhh, I just had a look at Moon Moon  I can understand peoples feeling about the breed, they take a lot of work and are super smart. I obviously love the breed but would be unlikely to recommend them to many people. I get people asking me "how much do they cost" all of the time I always explain that they need heaps of work, training and patience. I will try and dissuade most people from getting one as I hate to see how many end up in shelters because people are not prepared. It does sadden me that so many people have had bad experiences with huskies, most people that meet Ronin fall in love with him. I will admit there were times when I thought, 'what the hell have I got myself into'...despite an enormous amount of prior research. But more work and my absolute responsibility for this life made me double my efforts. Anyway sorry for going a bit off topic :)

I love looking at them! Does that count? I've never actually met any well trained ones, so my knowledge of them is very limited to bad things. Though i am sure if raised correctly they would be fabulous- Ronin looks to be! But that hair!! I'd have to get a robot vacuum haha Yep that counts LOL. They do require more training than many breeds but not to the degree that is often perceived. The hair is not too bad, good diet and a weekly brush is about all that is needed - in coat blow time it is a bit more work, but I don't think much different from any double coated dog. The fact that they don't smell and dirt and mud drops off them makes up for shedding - that and they maybe only need a bath once or twice a year if that :) No one is game to because they run the risk of getting Moon Moon.. :rasberry:As for my next dog I hope it will be black and tan.--LhokI love Moon Moon!I have the greyhound Moon Moon  I don't know about Moon Moon - must be before I joined here... but keen to hear more

Oooh, I like that, and for us blokes, we do not call this bling, it is "kit" or "gear" By the way, Jake looks wonderful, Id love to see more pics!

Adaptil For A Dog That Is Scared Of Thunderstorms
Yonjuro replied to kamuzz's topic in General Dog Discussion
I used an Adaptil collar when my boy was a puppy and took his long flight over from the Eastern States and I think it definitely helped with anxiety. They only last for around 4 weeks though. I bought a spray to use for car travel and think it worked slightly, but less effective than the collar - this is hard to quantify as Ronin was a major stress head in the car no matter what we did... he is much better now after an enormous amount of work. My thoughts on the Adaptil types and individual cost would be that a diffuser might be the best bet, as you can switch it off when there are no forecast storms, so it should last a very long time this way and the pheromone will be spread over a large living area. I think you can put the collars in a zip lock bag and they will last a bit longer but hard to judge this. The spray is handy for things like beds and crates but cannot be sprayed on the dog, I am not sure if they can be sprayed on a thunder shirt, but it might be worth looking into this. If money wasn't an issue then a combination of the three types will cover all bases. -
I love showing them for other people, does that count? yes it does

 6 pages and no one wants a Husky. Don't worry I won't tell Ronin

Depends which country you're in. The show Siberians in the UK and much of Europe are far more like the racing dogs we have here. It very interesting to see the difference from country to country. For example this is the dog what won it's breed at Crufts this year http://crufts.fossedata.co.uk/Breed.asp?ShowYear=2014&GroupID=WOR&ScheduleID=22 Very different to those here! this one was on the leaderboard on DOL: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=77442 Both Gorgeous dogs, but working wise- i imagine Crufts dog would be able to run for hours with those legs! Perhaps. Looks can be deceiving, there is a lot more to working ability then long legs. They need the temperament and correct structure combined to work. I know the dog leading the DOL point score and she is an amazing moving bitch. Sure she doesn't have the legs as long as the other dog but that doesn't mean she couldn't work. I would be surprised if Blush couldn't work all day, but until we test these dogs there is no way of knowing. That is very interesting - thanks. Oh, and I do agree what you are saying about the long legs, I was just using that particular aspect as an example :) Edit typo

A Siberian Husky in my opinion in the epitome of function and form. Sadly there seems to be a trend of shorter legged huskies preferred in the ring They should have longer legs, be lean and able to run great distances. I see them in all shapes and sizes these days and sadly most fall out of what they "should" be. I get annoyed when people say that this is a show sibe and that is a racing (working sibe) I do not believe they should be mutually exclusive. Thankfully there are a number of good breeders out there that agree with these sentiments. Rant off :D
