The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17
Yonjuro replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ahhhhh - tempt me not  The thought has crossed my mind but I am not sure that I can afford to keep another dog fed and insured in the same manner as Ronin, if I can't provide the very best of care possible, then it is not fair on the dog or anyone involved. That, and the fact my wife would boot me outside to sleep and probably feed me from a bowl has some bearing on the matter  I'll just count my blessings that he has such a great mate, and Tigs owner is always keen for our frequent meet ups :) -
I don't know if there is anything you can do per se to 'toughen' the skin without causing other issues but adding coconut oil to the food is great for a healthy skin and coat and can also promote healing. You can apply it topically as well or mix a 1 part turmeric and 1 part coconut oil.

My previous dog Tessi was incontinent when she was 13 to 14 so I understand a little of what you are going though. Unfortunately I have no real suggestions or solutions, I just had to help her up and help to to toilet at times I thought about right but still had to clean up so much that I eventually ended ripping up the carpet. Lots of old towels strategically placed is probably going to make for the easiest clean-up. So, not much help, but wanted you to know I am thinking of you Danny and Tamar. PS. I know some people swear by Cranberry products for urinary issues, but the issues you are facing may be more muscular in nature, so dunno if it would be of any use?? Having said that, I wonder if some cranberry juice mixed in the water bowl would be a little pick-me-up??

Important Request For Allerzoit And Grumpette
Yonjuro replied to Brandiandwe's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh my gosh, there are some lovely photos on this thread. Too many to quote but those puppies are so stunning  Threads like these that are likely to cause public displays of unseemly gushiness should be banned  Seriously though, Allerzoit and Grumpette should be very proud of the work they are doing for this wonderful breed :) -

The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17

Tiggers mum sent me these two shots from yesterday and to me they really show what this thread is about :) These were taken at the very end - Tigger was laying down very tired they had been playing for nearly two hours. It was time to go and we both put their leads on them, but Tigger didn't want to get up, Ronin walked gently between Tiggies mum and Tig as if to say, Noooo you can't take my mate and then he lay next to him and put his head on Tigs neck. It was so lovely that it almost brought a tear to my eyes. -

Shortly after the photo he was the only one playing in the mud and then proceeded to smooch up to people :D So much for some people thinking huskies are aloof and cat-like :D -

I had to post this as it just makes me laugh :D We went a Husky play date with 12 or 15 Huskies last week. You know how in a group there is always one well that one is always Ronin. Can you spot him  -
Oh wow, that first video is very distressing to watch and can only imagine the stress this is causing you. They look so lovely and I hope you can get a satisfactory resolution.

I studied Security and Counter Terrorism for a while at uni. PETA was an organisation we looked at and even though they are not considered a terrorist organisation they sometimes engage in activities that are similar to terrorist groups! They are monitored along with other NGOs but fall below the priority of others. Unfortunately we live in an age where resources have to be prioritised to the groups that represent real threats to human safety. So these pseudo terrorist groups like PETA can continue along their merrily deranged and misguided ways

I didn't make it clear but I meant HER left, so on the right in the photo. Ah, that one does look quite different, it could be more laika or sibe or another mix, I will try and find out more.
-
Yeah, looks Agouti to me too. That said, crossbreeds are not uncommon in racing teams and heaven forbid I should mention but there is a likelihood of Laikas :D and others mixed in.

Thanks Bjelkier and Kirislin I will find out more about the diet but I believe it really depends on the hunting season but they keep the best bits for themselves - from what I gather it is a porridge like gruel with some salmon or other meat. It also depends on whether they are training or racing where they may need up to 5000 calories per day so there is quite a bit of fat when working. I think her friend has 18 dogs so this will have a bearing on how much meat they get. I will ask my wife to find out more.

My wife is originally from Kamchatka in far Eastern Russia where they run Russia’s oldest and longest sled dog race called the Beringia 950km - some races are done in traditional sleds. Here are some pics of her friend who races it. She thinks we are funny with what we feed our dogs, and laughs at Ronin's super high quality raw diet :D She was sniggering at my "pretty" dog until she saw him running and playing with Tigger the greyhound and then begrudgingly conceded "hm, okay, he good husky"

This is me to a tee :) I bought a Hurtta raincoat thinking I would use it so I didn't have to worry about a wet undercoat, but so far I haven't taken it out of the pack but they are great quality breathable dog raincoats from what I can tell :) I have some gore tex walking shoes, and a good breathable waterproof hiking jacket for myself. Ronin's guard hairs shed a lot of the water. And I have a forced air blower that has a heat option so I can blow any water off him if needed.
