  1. Ronin's Daddy,Yonjuro. feeds RAW to his lad. He buys this type of tripe. He is cluey on its benefits. :) I haven't been able to get it for a while, but when I could I would give it every second day as around 25% of meal. RGT is kind of a hybrid between muscle meat and organs so bear that in mind when you are doing your calculations. It is also quite calorific but apart from that it is loaded with probiotics and it a great food. I have also used air dried but haven't tried freeze dried. K9 Naturals do a frozen version that I have used and it seems very good.
  2. Mix one rounded teaspoon in 250ml of cold water, put into a small bowl and gently bring to a simmer. Simmer for 3 minutes and allow to cool. You can mix a teaspoon of honey or molasses into the warm tea, allow to cool. You can add some probiotics to the cold brew if you like. I normally just put the dose in his bowl and it is readily licked up. You can give straight from the teaspoon if you like. If all else fails you can syringe into the side of the mouth.
  3. I am not sure the actual cause of the problem but can give some advice on Slippery Elm. It may help and trying for 48 - 72 hours will do no harm either way and may just get thing passing a bit easier. Yes you can use Slippery Elm with a young puppy, Ronin swallowed a bit of plastic at 6.5 weeks and our breeder was lucky enough that her friend was a advocate of Slipper Elm and it fixed him up quick smart. Dose would be around a teaspoon of the brewed mixture for a puppy (depending on weight), half an hour before food, 3 times a day. Dosage amount is less critical that with most medicines.
  4. Awww, Happy Gotcha Day Maddie! She is so lucky to have found such a wonderful owner as are you for finding such a gorgeous girl. Some things are just meant to be :) Lovely photos too
  5. This reminded me of a time when my parents were looking after our dogs (1 great dane and 2 greyhounds - one a foster). Apparently one day Mum couldn't see where the foster greyhound and their Alaskan malamute were, so went looking. She found them excavating a hole to China in her backyard. It was raining and the other 2 precious ones (our greyhound and great dane) were lounging in the lounge room (as you do) and the the 2 naughty ones were covered in mud, but having a lovely time! Great story, I can quite easily picture that!
  6. he likes his savoury before sweets
  7. We have our Mulberry tree in full fruit right now, so it has been purple poo for a while now. Ronin picks out the juiciest ones :D Ronin likes most fruits and veggies as treats, carrot is always good and watermelon as seen on his first birthday "cake" :D
  8. Be careful with tomatoes Perse, they contain tomatine which is dangerous, but less so in very ripe fruit. Tomatoes also contain atropine that can cause tremors, dilated pupils and heart arrhythmia . These things are more concentrated in leaves, stems and unripe fruit. I don't think it is super dangerous but just something to keep in mind :)
  9. Thanks Denali :) Mask is the correct term Ronins would be called a 'full mask', sometimes called 'clover mask' or even 'butterfly mask' I think?I thought so- but wasn't quite sure! I definitely see where they get the clover mask from. Very cool Thanks :) Thank you, they are really the odd couple :) Great photos, I am finding really difficult to get good action shots like yours... I'll keep trying :) Yes, please. Ditto :)
  10. Thanks HW, its funny how they don't mind sharing the hole :) Thanks DDD, they really do have a blast together - but they are very cheeky together, typical teenage hooligans :D
  11. Thanks Denali :) Mask is the correct term Ronins would be called a 'full mask', sometimes called 'clover mask' or even 'butterfly mask' I think?
  12. You are most welcome I was very hesitant to go to one of the bigger places - but the recommendation I received was from someone with experience that couldn't be taken lightly. Prices have been quite reasonable too. What I also liked was that when he asked me about Ronins diet, I told he was previously of mixed kibble and raw and now on fully prey model raw, he said his condition is so great to not change a thing. Another thing I liked was when he asked me about what I needed to see the previous vet about so he could get background I mentioned it was itchiness when he was around 10-12 weeks. I said that I had sorted it out with Calendua tea and he wrote it down as something he would look into recommending to some clients with persistent itchiness
  13. I haven't had any real problems with my boy apart from his cryrptorchidism - I was recommended Dr Rodney Sundra from Morley Vet Centre. He was recommended to me after my previous vet of 14 years alpha rolled Ronin at 12 weeks and caused me some stress. Dr Rodney was recommended to me by Kathy Kopellis McLeod who has seen him for a long time. He is very kind, gentle and understanding and this really helps with a big energetic dog like a Husky. Ronin is not afraid of him and wags his tail and tries to cuddle him when we visit :D
  14. It is quite common in my breed. I don't like it and would never buy a puppy desexed that young.
  15. Lamb flaps are predominately bones, some meat and fat. The bones should negate the runs, Also the dog is fed on BARF so I don't see this as being a problem at all :)
  16. Cool, just go slow as weight can really catch up quickly. Lamb flaps are also extremely yummy, so factor in that you might create an addiction  Having said that there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to continue with lamb flaps into the future when weight is ideal, You just need to play around with volumes of the rest of standard meals and the leanness of the meats.. Another thing to think about is buying cheap mince to make up your own BARF as it has more fat. If you have a chat with your butcher you can often buy the meat they use for the mince, pre minced which I prefer.
  17. There is a long thread in this section on using Calendula Tea. It is not a cure but should really help with relief and make your dog more comfortable. You can use in multiple times a day and it won't rob the skin of natural oils. Brewing some up and putting in a spray bottle will make for a days worth of comfort. DoLer "Steve" sells great stuff. http://www.shalarm.com.au/index.php/shop/dogs
  18. Lamb flaps would probably be a good addition to the BARF. Look up "satin balls" on google - these are pretty rapid weight gain though, so I would recommend the lamb flaps or moderating the stain balls for a slower but steady weight gain.
  19. Yeah fastway couriers are shocking over here - we call them Slow-way for good reason .I will never use them again.
  20. Oh that is disappointing - but at least the customer service is looking to make good and listen to your complaints. I can understand the postage cost as parcel shipping is very expensive even if it is just down the road. I applaud any small business prepared to give it a crack and I would personally expect to make around $22.50 profit out of a $45 sale. I would guess that there is only around $18 profit in your sale. Anyway, thats just my two bobs worth, and I do understand that you would be unhappy with the product.
  21. I could be wrong but I don't think the Inner Health Plus has the strains of bacteria that are mainly utilised by a dog. And yeah, raw green tripe is near impossible to get here is Perth...except for the K9 Naturals frozen stuff. EDIT : I haven't looked at the IBS Inner Health
