  1. Have also posted this in the breeders section....... Has anyone had a puppy with strangles? If so, I am interested to know how long the puppy took to recover and if it suffered from any other related problems later in life. Thanks
  2. I paid $1300 for a CT scan for one of my Labs, in Melbourne.
  3. I have a Blackdog harness and I love it. It seems to be very comfortable for the dogs to wear and is very easy to put on. They also make the harness to your dogs measurements. Also, I have found the customer service at Blackdog to be excellent
  4. Something weird went on with one of my labs late on Christmas eve. She was standing waiting for some treats when suddenly her back legs went shaky/wobbly and she seemed to have to stand with her legs stretched right back in order to support herself. Then one of her front legs also started to quiver, she lifted it of the ground a few times and then it seemed to be ok. I took her too her bed and she was walking kind of like she was drunk, once she was lying down she went to sleep, with me watching her, after about 10 min I got her up and she was much happier and was walking normally, I kept an eye on her for the rest of the night and by morning she was fine. Very brief background history.........In the past few months, she had lost weight, is tucked up and is often sad and lethargic, she had a strange lump removed from her chest about 6 weeks ago and it currently on 50mg of Rimadyl. I will be calling the specialist and vet tomorrow but until then I am just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar with their dogs?
  5. Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know how long it would take for an infection to show up? This morning the wounds all look ok.
  6. Thanks for the reply, have just put Betadine on her ear.
  7. One of my labs has just been scratched and bitten by a feral cat. She has a small puncture wound on the corner of her eye, a scratch under her eye (her eyeball does not appear to have been scratched)and several scratches on her ear. I have cleaned the wounds with saline but am wondering if I should be doing more?
  8. It is being held at the Haddon Gun Club, Bells Road Haddon. It is about 15 min from Ballarat
  9. One of my labs had an aural haematoma last year. There was no drain in her ear just lots of stitches and an open slit. She came home with Amoxycillin and Macrolone tablets and did not have to wear an e collar. ISH what vets do you go to? I cannot believe they did not do a swab of the ear at the time of surgery.
  10. After alot of messing around with plastic bags I discovered the best thing for keeping bandaged feet dry is a used iv bag from the vets. Very easy to pull on and off and keeps everything nice and dry.
  11. The mother has scores of Hips (2:3 = 5) and Elbows (2:2 = 4), and the father has scores of Hips (7:0 = 7) and Elbows (1:2 = 3) are these rather OK scores for the hip and elbow scoring system? No those scores are not ok, based on the elbow scores alone neither of the parents should have been used for breeding let alone bred together!
  12. Sharon, I just put my other $40 into your account. I slept in on Sunday so did not go to training! Cannot wait until friday, although I am not sure how I am going to cope with the long drive
  13. My 9 month old lab puppy has been swimming for about a month. Her first attempts were so funny, her bum would keep rising out of the water: then at other times she would start splashing madly: Now after a month of swimming she is a strong confident swimmer and it is hard to keep her out of the water: although she does occasionally try to catch a ride!
  14. They are great photos and captions! Better luck next time.
  15. Possibly.....depending on cost and date.
  16. Claude and I may come by for a look......just so Claude can see it if possible for a dog to heel nicely without having a piece of roast beef dangled in front of its face
  17. These are our station bred kelpies...... Rose at 12 years..... Sylvia at 5 years.....
  18. I have always thought around 12 months for the change, but will have to check out the Eagle Pack bag to see what they recomend. Just out of interest, Lablover, how many cups per day do you feed your working dogs?
  19. Thanks Lablover.....I am going to give it a try with my next litter(Hopefully I can force myself to put my girl on a plane to visit her boyfriend ). I used Eukanuba LB puppy last time(3 .5 years ago) and I was happy with it but as I do now feed Eagle pack and my labs do so well on it! What age do you switch the formula? That is interesting about the differences you noticed in the puppies growth rates.....I remember a few years lots of people told me not to use large breed food, as it made the puppies grow too fast, but it is now widely known that the opposite is the case.
  20. Does anyone know if Eagle pack has a breeders club? Lablover......have you raised a litter on Eagle pack? If so what forumla did you feed and what forumla did you feed the mum?
  21. Thanks for the laugh! Reminds me of the movie Something about Mary......"Franks and beans, Franks and beans"
  22. My poor little yellow lab has spent the last 3 months dealing with the results of a grass seed in the eye. Last year I spent a fortune having them removed from the dogs ears and noses but this year there has only been the one in the eye. Grass seeds are very expensive things Luckily my labs have never had them in their throats but we did lose a kelpie a few years ago due to grass seeds problems.
  23. Glad his is getting better! What was actually wrong with him?
