  1. I'm about to mate a bitch who turned 6 last month. This will be her second and last litter. She was easily mated and easily whelped BUT for me and this bitch I think that 6 is old enough.
  2. Sometimes you just need to put stuff out there to recognise what can be done
  3. I'm assuming it is the same Australia wide but I have just recently re-registered my imported Fauve who was shown in NZ. I needed his NZ Export Pedigree, his paperwork from getting off the plane (the little slip you pick up from the freight company) and a re-registration form. Takes 10-14 business days.
  4. As for how to rehome there is nothing wrong with putting an add in somewhere and/or working with a rescue group if one is happy to help you. I always recommend putting a price on the dog as a free to good home advertisement will often attract the wrong type. Work out exactly WHAT sort of home your dog needs and what it is that you're not providing so that you can be specific. Be honest about all the dogs' faults and issues and you will have less chance of a rehoming going wrong.
  5. Maybe it also comes down to human personality as well? I ran an all breeds dog rescue and, running that and being around soooooo many dogs for sooooo many years was when I first realised that whilst I loved all dogs I really didn't like all dogs and definitely didn't want to live with many of the dogs I rescued. I can't stand needy dogs - my very good friend has Border Collies and their constant attention on her and need to be with her, even their obedience  , drives me nuts and would send me round the bend if they were my dogs. My breed is far more independent and far less needy - she can't understand how I prefer it and keeps trying to convince me that her dogs are better. They're not - they're just better for HER. The dog I rehomed was a Min Pin X and he was a needy, neurotic little nightmare in my home - in a home where they love to cuddle him and snuggle with him he is confident and outgoing. ETA - the one Fauve I have here who is needy does my head in
  6. Got an email response today acknowledging that they had received my photo.
  7. Sometimes rehoming a dog is the most unselfish action you can take as a pet owner. When you truly love your dogs you give them the best home they can have, even if that means it is not with you and YOU are sad.
  8. ETA actually just remembered it was 6 years ago and he was 7 - doesn't feel that long ago.
  9. I rehomed a dog at 9 years of age - should have done it 7 years earlier when I recognised that his personality and my personality didn't gel. Dogs have personalities just like people and sometimes, IMO, its unrealistic to expect "to death do us part" with a dog when people don't do that with other people. What is disgraceful is to not rehome your dog carefully, taking the time to do it properly, to not offer back-up to the new owners and ensure that they know you will take him back if ever it is needed. Tigger is, 4 years on, a settled and happy dog without any of his stress related behaviours he had when he lived with me. Poor frigging dog who had to suffer for 9 years because I "don't rehome dogs".
  10. This ! Sighthounds are so very different from other breeds. Comparing them to other breeds is like comparing a meat chicken to a racing pigeon. IMO the dog in question is pretty close to ideal. Yep.... its not simply a show standard that means that Ibizans' are thin, they simply are.
  11. Basset Fauve De Bretagne are fabulous - coat like a Border Terrier, love people and other dogs, weigh between 12-18kg generally, and, at the moment, none are shown in NZ. There is however a pet Fauve living near Christchurch with another due to join them shortly who will be shown sporadically. Obviously I'm biased but they're great jobs and really need to be seen in the NZ show scene. My newest boy Ace was recently exhibited over there during Summer and was the first Fauve ever shown in NZ.
  12. Yep and from what I've seen Fauves are the same, though admittedly I've only got a small amount of Fauves to use as a guide.
  13. Fauves would be out though as they shed.
  14. Haven't read other responses and, whether or not the breed would suit would depend on many more things, but I have yet to meet a Fauve who doesn't adore children of all ages. All the research & reading I've done over the last 6 years tells me that this is typical of the breed. I have rehomed a Fauve into a home with a just 3 year old and she is unbelievable. I always joke that my kids would have to rip their ears off before they'd bite and whilst that is patently a facetious comment, there is an element of truth as they are very, very tolerant of children and really seem to enjoy their company.
  15. I think that those breeds who are "up on their toes" more probably wear their nails down more easily than other breeds. The Fauve standard says in relation to forequarters: "Metacarpus (Pastern): Seen in profile, somewhat oblique" And oblique translates as "sloping". When I look at the pics of Dee Lee's Goldie she also seems to have sloping pasterns so I wonder if that contributes to why they don't wear down as well like my Fauves. Early on in my dog showing days when I said that my dogs' nails needed trimming weekly despite walking on bitumen for an hour 3-4 times a week each I was told that it was because they were structurally incorrect and I'm sure for some breeds that is probably accurate. After reading and talking to heaps of people I've learnt that fast-growing nails are very typical for Fauves, and learning to understand the standard better has also given me more knowledge. Some breeds are built in such a way that their nails DON'T wear down naturally as well as other breeds do IMO.
  16. My Fauves get their nails clipped weekly and if I didn't I would have a real pickle. Fauves have very fast growing nails and they get out of control VERY, VERY quickly. The other dogs are probably done every couple of months.
  17. Cockers at the glass door but yes, I loved the beagle at the end.
  18. Awesome - we're about to get our trailer on the road (hoping to have it out and about at Temora next week) and I'm so ridiculously excited. Its not as pretty as yours as it is hand-made job but thanks to the person getting it road-worthy its looking fabulous.
  19. I think the closest they've been to you Kezza has been at Wagga.
  20. I think dogs, like people, just don't like certain people and I honestly don't think it has anything to do with whether or not that person is good or bad. My friend breeds Siberian Huskies and she had one boy, who I really, really liked and yet he HATED me. I'd known him from puppyhood and everytime I would turn up he would bark and carry on in a way he didn't do for anyone else. I never did anything to him, all her other Sibes loved me but this boy hated me from day dot.
  21. Ah okay - thanks guys. So is UKC recognised here in Australia? Could I, for example, import a Fauve from the USA for showing here? I mus have been confusing it with another registry I think.
  22. Oh bugger - got so excited as I would have loved to have tried some stuff out on my old boy but sadly the Sydney basin we are not.
