  1. Not just one vet ,, all the vets around where i live ,, i'm over them , got no doubt they break a leg , get run over they would be good , but uo to now every single one of them has just wanted to sell me expensive food or steroids that they sell ,, not one has said feed your dog a balanced diet of such and such , only try this canned food , 10 bucks a can , try this kibble 160 bucks a bag , try this steroid course , . seems money money and money is there only consideration . In fact a couple said its not yeast don;t know what it is so we will medicate him and try different stuff , 2 said its possibble yeast but the test does,nt show it so buy this really expensive food ,, i was buying the stuff to put in his ears once a week , for 87 dollars a bottle then discovered pet barn has the same stuff for 40dollars now i use watered down apple cider vinigar and thats the only thing that clears it up quickly food one wanted to sell me he was 160 dollars a bag , pet barn was 40 dollars a bag cheaper but the girl there said they have complaints don't buy it ,, dermatologist may be a good idea if i can find one i could trust , but i put that to a couple of the vets i tried and both there answer was , WHY he's got nothing wrong with his coat , he's not losing hair , he's not scratching why do you need one ,, here buy this , frustrating ... i will admit he smells more has his hair grows ,, but i keep him fairly short anyway , i get a dog groomer to do it he likes them and they love him for 65 dollars let the profesionals do it . Papilon if half his buiscits and make it up with beef mince , ( human grade , so less bacteria ) and mixed veg is'nt balanced what would you suggest ,, things like an egge every now and then he has , same has cheese , he loves it but he has that for a treat ,, will admit don't give him bones he does'nt eat them anyway , they just show up two weeks later , under the bed , down the sofa or somewhere else he's hid them , untouched just hidden . bit of yogurt is easy . i thought mince and veg would of been ok like i said supplemented with kibble
  2. going to try him on just mince i'll just buy proper human mince from butcher or supermarkets , good enough for us good enough for dog , and frozen veg , cook the veg and make pattys easy to make and then freeze , cut his dried food in half to half a cup in morn pattys at dinner see how he goes , supose its going to be trial and error , he needs to lose weight anyway ,, he gets a lot more active when he gets a couple pounds off ,,, Jeez these small sensetive toy dogs are hard work , first and last one , give me the big strong robust shepards and rottys any day LOL
  3. Thanks for your replys ,, what raw meat do you give i did try chicken but it caused havoc with his stomach , vet like i said advised against it said there was too much bacteria in it .. Also if its not food any other suggestions for a smelly dog
  4. After some advice here ,, What to feed my little dog ,, i have a small , not sure but he looks like a maltese cross , how he looks depends on how long his hair is ,, so lets say little white fluffy dog .. Anyway last 3 years or so he has developed a real chronic ear infection both ears ,, i've had him to the vets so many times ,, every answer is the same , does'nt seem to have a yeast problem so here ya go steroid tablets and whatever else they feel like selling me at 70 bucks a bottle ,, he's cost a absolute fortune and 3-4 vets probably a few thousand dollars later not one can tell me why its happenning ,, Last one put him under , and said his ear was badly infected and full of gunk , cleaned it out , 700 bucks thank you , 2 weeks later his other ear was red and sore , why they never looked at both while he was under i don't know So i go on u tube , there was a vet on there she said she was appalled at the amount of steroids given willy nilly by her colegues , she said its usually acompanied by back handers from the drug companies ,, she touched on ears and said , apple cider vinegar is a good remedy ,,, so thats what i do when he starts shaking his head i check there red , i wash them with 50-50 cider and water and it seems to fix them for a few weeks ,, Anyway he's started to smell i'm convinced its his diet ,, but i've tried canned food , rice and veg , he's not keen , i tried chicken mince , ended up at the vets who told me there was a war going on in his stomach , bacteria in the chicken mince advised me not to feed him it any more . he seems to like his dried food , with maybee a couple spoons of tinned food with gravy for taste ,, but the smell he just developed is getting really bad , alweays had 2 big dogs at a time before , and never had them smell has strong or has bad has him ,,, wife says its like smelly feet dog smell . Really seem to be wasting time and money continually at vets , alls i get is , consultation , 70 dollars ,, steroids 80 dollars , yeast test 80 dollars , this tablet 60 dollars , that tablet 60 dollars there ya go if he;s not better after all this bring him back , NEVER any answers , and i've been to 4-5 different vets all the same So what do you feed your LITTLE dogs , to be honest every other dog i've ever owned has been healthy with real good coats , i'm convinced its his diet but unsure with these little toy breeds which just seem soft definetly not hardy after reccomendations tried blach hawk expensive and he did'nt like it , tried supercoat , tried the cheap natures own , what he has does'nt matter he's only small so its not going to break the ank , i just want whats best for him
  5. My local rspca , now will not allow you to pull up and have a wander through the adoption kennels , see a dog and buy it , thats the way i have bought 3 dogs not included the one i have now , You have to make an appoinment , WHY they told me covid and insurance , absolute RUBBISH its protection , of what you may ask well the fact that they have perhaps 200 kennels , around maybe 20 for strays adoptions , around 10 for puppies ,, of which theres never many available and the rest are all for boarding , , boarding dogs has a buisness is there main concern , . This is a true story ... dog i have now , When i seen him he had been in one day he already had a hold put on him , so i put my name down has a second party interested ,, anyway turns out it was a staff member who put the hold on him ,,, but the morning he was due to be relaesed i rang them and was told the other party no longer wanted him so if i come quick i can take him , before someone else puts a hold on him ... err i already had a hold , but had not recieved a call to say he was available ,, So i go up there within 15 --20 minuites i don't live far ,, i do the buisness they bring him out i'm ready to pay , $650 thank you they say ,,, I say ,, its $350 for dogs ,, price is up there and on the kennel ,,, no not for him they say that sort , little white fluffy ones are popular , we can get a lot more ,for him ,, i said he is the third dog i've give a good home too from here you know , i'm told does'nt matter we can get more so he's more than the advertized price for animals ,, so i paid it came home still got him he was worth it ,, but i felt a bit ripped off , so much for not being money grabbers . Anyway , fast forward a couple of months i'm on my houseboat and pull into a country town were on the bank lovely green grass area , i'm playing with him and a old lady walks past .with her old dog in a pram she was taking it for a walk , the pram was because the dog could'nt walk , bless her . Here is the part you may find unbelievabe , this old lady says is that Oliver , i say yes , he's lovely she says i was going to buy him , i'm a bit stunned i said how do you know him , were 200 miles from where i got him and he did'nt come from there he came from another town 400 klm from adelaide ,,, whats the story . She explained to me her daughter had a freind who worked at the pound , who shown her pictures and was going to sell him to her price around $500 i believe , , straight away i'm thinking what a joke staff claiming them and selling them on , sort of tells you why its rare to see a pedigree dog there now , when in the past i've had 2 boxers mother and son , and a beutiful shepard from there , now its all little staffy or heeler crosses that have troubles and can't find a home , I actually said to the lady ,, i would'nt off thought staff could buy them and sell them for a profit , did'nt think it would be alloweed , old lady says , Oh no its allowed she's high up and she's sold other dogs to other freinds , , If that lady had told me the name i would of reported her ,, but i suspect it may be more common than we think especielly with pedigree and little fluffy dogs ... the moer i look at that mob the more i think govt funding should be withdranw , its a buisness pure and simple ,, , even the food ,, i know they used to sell certain brands and stated there the best , seem to have changed there minds now and recomend others ,, think were all stupid its about financial endorsments not whats best
  6. , RSPCA non profit my backside , govt should look into them and reduce funding ,, between the govt and council fundings , endorsments , ect ect , they are never anything but BIG BUISNESS , and one i will never deal with again
  7. I would stop him having the run of the house , only in rooms with me , so i can catch him ,, when i'm not there in the laundry with a doggy door and leave a bit of his poo on the grass in the spot i want him to go .
  8. What a nice looking dog they are , just looked there pics up on the facebook page ,,, But noticed they are not mentioned here in the breeders or dogs for sale , i had never heard of the Catahoula dog ,, are they a registered breed , just curious with them not being on this site ,, whats there background
  9. I really really can see both sides of the argument ,, On one hand i feel excatly the same way has the original poster ,, I come across it myself when i was looking for another dog only a couple months ago ,, i was stuffed if i was going to pay a huge PRICE FOR A DOG then told what i could and could not do with it ,, your not allowed to show it , its not show potential and will reflect on me i was told ,, but my answer was ERR well why the big price , ,,, it must be desexed , i was told its not a perfect example to breed from ,, Err why the big price , , I like the other poster just walked away , fine find some other mug to pay you 5-6000 dollars , for a pup thats not up to standard by there own admision . . But on the other hand i can understand real dog lovers , really being concerned what happens to there pups above the dollars , and not wanting there lovely little puppy being bred in a backyard every season ... But what i found was most were just BYB anyway ,,, most you went to had 2 dogs i found an awful lot were single women or unemployed couples with a couple of dogs that were sub standard for there breed ,, but they talked a good game , an awful lot of the breeders i spoke to did'nt know much about the breeds they were selling , i specificly was looking for a GSD , i have owned them know about them and know a good one when i see it , and unfortunatly i did'nt see too many good ones ,, ,, mind you i am partial to the straight back european lines ,, not the hunchback jackel lines i continually come across . But i did come across a few what i would call reputable breeders with a lot of knoledge . One did'nt want to sell me a dog because i did'nt want to show it , and i said fair enough , she was proud of what she had and from what i seen so she should off been ,,, One did ,nt want to sell me a dog because i told her straight up it would not be getting desexed , , and the reason for that is simple , if the dog were to turn out has good has i hope it would , later on down the track i may want a pup from it to replace it ,, ,, It really is a double edged sword pro's and con's for both arguments ,, but i'm with the original poster i will not part with thousands and then be told what i can and can't do with my dog . I can understand a breeder who's paid thousands and thousands out for imported dogs or semen to get top quality show dogs not wanting to sell a substandard pup or even a top dog , to anyone and find there mating it with there mates dog up the road and using her pedigree to get top dollar , yes in that case get the dog desexed and include it in the price , but when you see all the sub standard dogs coming out with the same regulations from nothing more than back yard breeders with a superiority complex , stuff em , let them get stuck with the puppys
  10. Start by saying GSD well you may be lucky but unless you buy from a European working line chances are you will not get protection out of it , a dog trainer for a security company told me they have to import them , most shepards will not bite its been bred out of them , the ones that do are usually fear biters and you don't want a fear biter ,, Rottys like i've said had two both excellent gaurd dogs the male would'nt hesitate to bite , he done it but was super freindly , his instinct just told him someone coming over the fence at 2am was a target , he was'nt taught he was just a natural gaurd dog , , my sons heeler is a GREAT watchdog , he will stand his ground and bark but to be honest he would'nt bite , but he does have a face your sort of got to be willing to take the chance ,, most these other dogs mentioned are not really gaurd dog s the irish wolfhound is'nt you may get lucky you may not ,, Mastiffs especielly the boerbeol would fit , but most mastiffs won't bite either , my mates got two , go to his house and see if you have the guts to walk past them not many will , they stand and woof and will not budge one iota , scary looking things but if you have the guts to walk up be prepared to get knocked to the floor and slobbered all over while they lick ya Sounds to me though you are after the impossible , to get a good gaurd dog that will be extremly freindly and actually bite , will be very difficult , i suspect its going to be more a suspicous dog who's wary of strangers you need , your lab does the job , and too be honset not a bad dog my nephews got one that would be excatly what you want , my wife when i first met her had one he was a monster and wa very scary but very freindly except with me he did'nt like me , given the chance think he would off loved to have ripped me to bits , everyon else he was fine with ,, Personally i think you just have to pick a gaurding breed , sosial lize it well and hope for the best that its instincts have not been bred out of it , Other than that , just go get a little chiwawa , they will let you know when someone there , so get one of them to warn you and a shotgun to do the rest ,,, i see a lady every day at the beach with 5 lovely ridgebacks , there all really freindly though and not aloof at all ,, what you need is a dog thats reasonably aloof with strangers ,, i keep coming back to Rotty or Heeler ,,, but would also include mastiffs , mainly because of there look
  11. Rough Collies . when i was a kid my uncle always had rough collies , not just one but quite a few over the years and every one of them were known to be a bit nervy and biters , not one had the lassie temperment we thought they should have ,,, What would concern me is your comment the rotty and shepard intimidate you , i think any of the large gaurding breeds would probably do that them IF they were real gaurd dogs ... Another dog that would be worth looking at is the blue heeler , not has intimidating but can do the job ,, ... I ride motorbikes , love nothing more than to get out on trails , and just toss a coin left or right ,, lost count of the amount of trails i've been on in the country , come to a dead end with a gate and then turned and bolted when i've seen half a dozen kelpies and blueys come charging out at me LOL
  12. Had TWO dogs , that would of got 10 out of ten for everything you asked ,, both did'nt wander , both were super freindly both just natural gaurd dogs , both seemed to have a switch in there head when to gaurd and when not too especielly at night that switch came on aotomatic ,,, i spend a lot of time on the river murray on a housboat cruising up and down ,mostly its fairly remote ,, also spend a lot of time travelling in the caravan mostly , where its remote , my wife sometimes gets a bit worried us out there alone , she often says wish Naz or ebony were still alive , they were perfect dogs for that scenario , Both were perfect dogs without any formal training , they just never seem to do anything wrong ,, were very aloof with other dogs , never run over and bothered with them , but very freindly when dogs came to them , , both very people freindly , but both could turn in an instant if they sensed things were not right , , ,, I know this for a fact because one of them actually attacked an intruder in the early hours , he bolted out the doggie door ran and attcked him bit him but did'nt savage him , GREAT DOGS ,, been thinking of getting anther big dog because were spending more and more time on the river just ctruising ,, so i thought this time , i may go for a Mastiff or a boebeol both seem to have the ingrediants you want ,, BUT i don't like slobber so i'll probably go for 3rd time , and hope i'm lucky to get the same has the last time , I know your waiting for the dog ,, i'm just keeping you in suspence , they were ROTTWEILERS
  13. Personally , i feel it could all even itself out fairly quickly with the banning of commercial puppy farms , i wil never believe the guy who has 20 -30-40-50 bitches is a breeder , to me a breeder is someone passionate about that breed who wants to keep that breed going and perhaps shows them because they like the medals , prestige , or whatever else it is that they get off on ,, a byb for my way of thinking is a person who has a dog maybee two and likes that dog or breed and allows there bitch to mate , sometimes with there mate who's passionate and shows there dog , sometimes with the guy up the streets dog , simply because they love there dog , they want to keep a pup and others are lined up to buy the pups because they know the dogs . But the ones who have a humongous amount of dogs are just puppy farms these should be outlawed , , i'll go has far has to say these are the ones who have driven prices up to a ridiculous level and these should be banned ,, all other breeders should be regulary inspected , found with any amount over what there liscenced for and all there dogs impounded to cover costs . . Then the rspca investigated and looked into regards the grants they get ,, if recieving there govt grants forced to actually do what they claim , rescue dogs , , i don't believe there rescuing dogs when they have 100 kennels 80 filled with expensive boarders , , 10 with the minimum amount of dogs and 10 empty ,, then on the odd occasions the full 20 are full they cry and have advertizing campaigns asking for help and money .
  14. Years ago bought a staffy , wonderful little dog , but chew ,, by the time he was 2 he had gone through a new lounge , dining room table legs , all the chair legs , thousands of dogs toys , all my youngest sons toys , started on the skirtings the doors and the architraves , he chewed his kennel up , the best of all he saved till last , it was actually a pair of boxing gloves that were signed by no less than 8 world champions , worth a fortune if i still had them... Will say he was one of if not the frendliest dog i've ever owned , had absolutly no loyalty to anyone , his next best freind was always whoever would give him a pat or a bit of food , he was dog freindly cat freindly a great dog that luckilly for him got away with completly wrecking my home only because he was such a good dog ,, lived till he was 16 , so all in all the first 2 years of total destruction were considered worth the following 14 years ,,, he was also , untrainable for house training for them first two years ,, but then it was overnight , he reached 2 maybee 2 and half and presto , he just stopped chewing and messing in the house overnight , he just grew up overnight Great dog ,, but will admit never again will i own a staffy LOL
  15. Last sundays paper had a big article in it about the govt here in SOUTH AUST changing the rules for breeders , apparantly they have had submisions in for breeders premises to allow up to 300 bitches , and not just one submision either seems a lot to me but thats a MASSIVE scale , also says victorian breeders are moving across the border up Mildura way to get away from the new vic laws ,, don't know how much is just selling papers made up rubbish or is actual fact . i just read it . For me though the answer is simple , you have breeders and you have byb , but which is which , is the old lady who's owned poodles for 35 years and lets her best bitch have a litter with the show dog she bought a byb or a breeder , hence is the guy with 20 acres and 30 bitches all in pup to the 5 males he has a breeder or a byb . I don't really think the byb in the past has been a problem , if there dogs are no good they don't sell them and then its supply and demand . Personally i think once someone registers to be a breeder , with clubs , govt agencies whoever or whatever , they are virtually saying there there too make money , so councils if there worried about puppy farms not breeders , can just simply put a number on dogs they can have and the amount of pups they can have at any one time ,, and this should be highly policed with regular inspections to make sure its ok , make the RSPCA work for there grants , won't cost them nothing they can send there volunteers the byb well they will not have sites such has this to advertize so they take a chance on being stuck with 6 pups unless there own dog is such a nice dog there already booked and sold .. I believe the dog industry is one where they need to allow or encourage more breeding to simply reduce the prices , and reducing the prices reduces the profits all of a sudden its not profiable to breed if your not making money .. but it still leaves it open for good breeders who have the lines and the papers , trophys and reputation to charge more on the basis you get what you pay for , . I know from breeders over the last 45 years i've bought a springer spaniel , a staffy , a shepard , and 2 rottys and in each case i could'nt give a monkeys about showing them or there show potential , i just looked for the biggest , healthiest looking most boisterous pup they had , each time payed a premium but got excatly what i wanted , but i also got full papers , Thats another argument but me i would NEVER EVER buy a pedigree dog without full papers , i don't want to breed or show ,, but if i'm paying a premium i want the full papers , and sorry but any breeder who refused to give them me stating any reason , i would look at them disbelieve them and say they only want to protect there own income , nothing to do with the dogs ,, , after all if they breed great dogs , you think they would be happy to have there line used , especielly if you went back to mate it with one of there other dogs , if there so paranoid about there line being bred simple answer keep all the pups themselves
  16. Been giving this some thought , and too be honest and completly truthful i'm not a small dog lover always had and prefered big to large dogs ,, however the one i've got now is a small dog , and he's the most placid well behaved dog i've ever had , he does'nt play much but when he does and gets ecited starts nipping , just a finger a NO play gentle and he's back to sucking your thumb ,, i bought him on a spur of the moment emotionalk discision , i actually went to the pound to buy a big bull mastiff i had seen the previous day , but spotted him with the thing around his neck they had just deseed him, said hello to him he run over and that was that ,, he was actually used has there poster dog at that time , he was so cute . and weve been mates ever since , at least when he's awake nowadays ,, . But if i was to buy another little dog , i dunno i like the westies , and terriers , but if i was to buy from a breeder it would definetly be a aussie terrier , ,,, other than that i think i would go to the pound and just buy the scruffiest little terrier cross i could find
  17. Rescue centres i don't know much about them except for the rspca i don't know any ,, but i will say if i wanted another dog , i would not go to the rspca ever again , I just don't like them , i think there a profit based organization who's sole ambition is to work to get govt and council grants ,and little old ladies leaving them money and animal lovers giving up there time to be a volunteer Rspca nearest to me i first bought a pair of dogs of them in 1985 ,, i bought my present dog about 7 years ago , then it was a dogs home , and if you wanted to rescue a dog you just drove up walked through the door had a look at all the dogs fell in love with one straight away , bought it and lived happilly ever after ,, Now you cannot do that i went a couple of months ago went inside and after waiting 20 minuites to ask someone to let me through was told to go away and make an appoinment to look at the strays and adoption dogs , why , has it changed , course they say covid , but to my knoledge dogs don't get covid ,, its a much easier rteason , and thats simple 80% of the kennels are not took up by dogs being rescued there took up by dogs being boarded ,,, its turned into a very profitable boarding home for dogs ,, there staff are volunteers they get govt and council grants , and basiclly with the help of thesee grants , take buisness of other boarding homes for dogs ,, RSPCA are just a buisness with a great story
  18. Think the thing is what constitutes a breeder and a back yard seller,, Breeders are entitled to make a profit , byb i think most want stamped out , but who's to say who's who and whats what , its all very subjective , now my last two dogs have been rescue dogs , but prior to that i o always bought full pedigree , even got two boxers from the pound mother and son which had too come has a package , So what is a breeder ,, I remember when i bought a shepard , i went to a breeder who was advertizing , drove around 80-100 klm out into the southern hills of adelaide , along a long dirt road , came across this house , on , acre's of land , , remember i was a bit concerned about getting out the car , there were a big group of shepards just running around playing , all big strong dogs probably about 10-12 of them , I'm thinking is it safe ,, my missis says get out ya wimp , and gets out and starts patting them all , the owner /breeder , comes out she laughs and says you'll be fine , i get out and EVERY ONE of them was big strong confident and freindly ... Breeder tells me escuse the mess of the dogs ,, mostly all wet theve just come back from the dam , just out the back she had a big dam , apparantly every morning she let all the dogs out to run and they would go play in the dam come back and were mainly just out there pens playing and enjoying a great life ,, also out the back she had a whole row of kennels all with there own little run , she also had a big shed , inside the shed was a massive whellp box and a door that led to a outside enclosure ,, she told me , the mother lives here with the pubs till they have gone , that way when she goes out they follow and there usually 80% house trained from the mother , mine was 100% house trained 18 years never done a thing . she proudly shown me pics and medals , ribbons ect of the dogs which she shown past and present , it was a great set up , the breeder spoke to us at lenght and asked me what do i want most , out of a shepard , showdog , gaurd dog ect , i told her , big freindly confident bla bla bla , she asked the main thing do you want to show , my answer NO ,,, so she took me too a litter she actually had two litters ,, walked right up to a pup and said heres your perfect dog , , i said whats perfect about him ,, she said look at the size of him , he's massive for a 8 week old pup , i start to play with him , he's straight away giving me a little growl , tething at my hands , , she then said , he's not suitable for show because , one he's going to be too big , and two he's long haired , no good for the show ring pet only ,, i took him he was a great dog , the most gentle shepard you will ever meet , my youngest lad came along that year and the two were unseperable for years , from being 12 months of age my lad would climb on the monsters back and say gee up doggie , the dog loved it used to even lay down while he got on , they were stuck to each other , only thing was he was a useless gaurd dog , , that was a breeder and a good no Great one also remember i said i'll take him and got out the money he came with unrestricted papers , and she said deposit only , he's only 8 weeks old and i don't allow them to leave till there 10 weeks . Now fast forward 30 plus years i go looking for another shepard not long ago ,, i answer a couple of ads , one i go to its a person renting a house , knock on the door , obviously unemployed mother of a dozen kids says come in , but i'll just put the dog away , she has to put the father away its viscous , shows me the mother looks like a jackel , shows me the pups , i just say thanks but no thanks ,, go to the next one , there its the mother only and the pups , the mother once again looks like a jackel , but the owner spends a long time telling me about how her dog is on its way to becoming australian champ ,, i ask about the father turns out he belongs to her freind who also breeds , but thats ok she has pictures , looks like another hunchback jackel with a skinny fox like snout ,, of her i also get a lecture about how ethical she is and her dogs are sold on ltd papers because she's a responsible breeder , . yeh threw her mates jackel to mix with her jackel , one thng in common these two had was the price , around $3500 , i said , to the second BREEDER if i want one can i take it now , yes if you want , i say there only 6 weeks old will that be ok ,, course it will she assures me , but because he's not here you will have to get your secomnd injection at your own cost ,, , Ok i say thanks but no thanks , by the time i had got out the door she was virtually begging me to buy it for $2500 because that would pay her freind for the stud fee . and this ones supposed to be a ethical breeder , So end result i think it pays to look around , shop around and do your due dilligence Oh another thing i forgot to mention was papers and restrictions she changed her mind when i said i would'nt buy anything and be given restrictions , faced with losing a sale , her ethics went out the window ,, . what would i do if i still wanted a shepard easy ,, i would look high and dry for a breeder who dels in European shepards ,, imported at that , less chance of being mixed with a hunchback jackel , But i don't sorry but seems to me the GSD have been ruined since i bought one 35 years ago and i find it annoying
  19. Too be honest if i ever bought a rental property again , WHICH I WON'T , i would ban dogs and kids , also young people , and unemployed , it would be a unit and someone elderly with a regular stream of income from a pension , Its a sad but true fact , a lot of landlords do not always get there rent , they get shafted and have to spend there savings on whats quite often diliberate damage
  20. Never heard of a cobberdog ,,, a breed i'm suprised to hear is'nt a recognised breed in Aust is the Boarbeol
  21. Don't think you would say that if you had done has i done and rented a few properties out for 30 plus years , and then spent has much money has i have replaceing chewed doors , dug up lawns , , chewed up architraves soiled carpets , ,
  22. True but like i said , If there dogs are good , and i would want to see them ,,, ESPECIELLY a dobe or a shepard ,,, just like everyone , i've seen some awsome looking Dobes and Shepards , but seen more that just look OFF ,, and both these dogs , if i were to get one i would'nt settle for anything less than Big strong , European working lines .. When i was looking for another GS i got so over being told we breed them fine here in Aust ,, to cover the fact that they were trying to sell , skinny little jackel looking hunchback dogs they bred with there mate who had another skinny little jackel hunchback dog , with snouts like a fox ,
  23. I've always been a lover of the westies ,, never owned one but like the look of them ,, On a couple of occasions i've made enquires about them and then not bothered , i've been told they have health issuse's , now i could be wrong on that no doubt westie owners on here will put me right on that ,, but being told that really did sway me not to get one ... If its correct , i think an elderly person would more likely be on a pension , and if thats the case , a dog thats contuinually at the vet or needs speciel medication is going to be a big drain financially , that should be took into account . My little white fluffy dog looks a bit like a westie , sometimes , others he looks like a maltese , basicly he's just a short stumpy lovable little thing ,, BUT he costs me a lot of money , constant ear infections , that just never seem to clear up for long ,, and getting worse , now there back every 3-4 weeks , , believe westies have skin problems , but like i say i could be wrong its only what i've been told ,, think a better option would be a aussie terrier i know for a fact just like the kelpie and the blue heeler , there a very sturdy robust little dog , , Aussie made for Aussie conditions LOL
  24. Think the problem is two fold 1 ,,,, people who are in there own home and get a dog , don't relize how expensive dog food can be , its actually quite epensive to feed a big dog 2.,,,, Landlords don't have to worry if they can rent out a property , advertize and its gone straight away , distinct shortage in rental properties , and no pets allowed make it even harder if you have a dog .. Too be honest i can't blame them , over the years i had a few rental properties and learned years ago NEVER rent to people with pets ,, just an unfortunate fact , but most don't look after there animals or the house , when your a landlord and someone leaves , and you have to spend thousands fixing up damage , to lawns carpets , and just painting dirty walls caused by pets you only do it a couple of times before the NO PETS sign comes out . Never really ceased to amaze me , how many especielly young people would buy a dog and not give a thought to what would happen to that dog when they moved on
