  1. Ethoxyquin is not permitted in Australia or EU so unless your sources of farmed fish/chicken come from there or the food is US made there should be none in your Australian made food. As for Emu oil http://www.researchgate.net/publication/221865310_Emu_Oil_A_novel_therapeutic_for_disorders_of_the_gastrointestinal_tract There's a study here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21653893 done on Palmitic acid on embryos which showed it actually inhibited growth of the fetal cells. Could be something since Palmitic acid is 21% of the content of emu oil and can accumulate? Won't harm the adult but a very rich diet over time might be the reason you're finding problems? Just a stab in the dark?
  2. I have a couple of their board and train clients who have now started with me instead. PM me if you want.
  3. My point is more the expectation of an instant refund from someone who is blatantly not up to par. The dog was refunded and sick... so why purchase it again.
  4. So the breeder provided you for a refund once, has paid all treatments and now you're asking for a second time for a refund? I think to wait until the pup is sold is not unreasonable. Sounds like their pockets are being bled dry and you have contact with the treating veterinarian is that correct? Lepto is spread mainly from urine, it's a bacteria not a virus. Rodents in particular are good at spreading it. Lepto tests are expensive, if you want to check if your pup is infected you need to check urine and blood samples to give you a yes or no. You purchased a sick dog, you got a refund, repurchased and now want another refund despite the fact you had doubts as to the hygiene and health status?
  5. That is the perfect way to do it. Up your criteria one step at a time, keep it short what you ask and always really positive. Start all the dogs like that from young to accept a muzzle. Once they learn it there is no problems at all, I say 'muzzle' and they even put their faces into it for me.
  6. Retrieval in a gundog is a modified behavior to that of something like a guarding breed which will not have a soft mouth and will want to inherently bite, chew or run off with the object if it is seen as prey. The point of gundog breeding is the soft mouth - which is why they never became protection dogs. It's apples and oranges. When you do a dumbbell retrieve it is not a prey item.
  7. The retrieval object should not be seen as a toy or a prey object at all. This is where chewing, dropping and victory laps occur. The object is just that - a neutral object they perform a behavior with no matter what it is.
  8. Ivan Balabanov and old schoolers use some stress to get a firm hold. Don't start on a dumbbell start on a piece of garden hose or something softer then move up to hard objects until the dog gets used to it, and you attach a piece of fine string to one end to teach the dog if there is movement or about to be dropped to grip firmly.

    Go Malinois!

Malinois do not come in black. The solid blacks are from interbreeding. Up in the USA there are mass farms that breed working dogs for law enforcement and military purposes and majority have no pedigree.
  10. Call the breeder and ask them for advice. Honestly this is not a pet temperament pup if it's drawing blood already particularly in such a breed.
  11. But of course butter wouldn't melt ... wait for the soppy eyes to happen
  12. There's trouble in that face already :D
  13. The dog does not understand the exercise so there is no need for a punishment. Kavik is spot on with a NRM, it means whoops try again! The point is not to demotivate the dog while learning so you find you can train for longer without losing momentum. I have made a PDF for my clients I will send it to you tonight. Explains things simply for you :D
  14. The BRT was created by the Soviet government. It was an all round working dog with good size, athletic, very good bite and would take on a crowd no problems in control situations.
  15. Don't add another command or it becomes a recognised behavior. Use a non reward marker if she creeps out of position, recommand the heel. You're asking her to heel not perform a 'walking back' exercise ;)
  16. Delta Society is a not for profit organisation officially. They ask the fee as a 'donation' to help cover insurance costs (public liability etc) it just happens to be mandatory.
  17. I wanted a bitch (which of course would have been speyed) and had an entire bitch. I don't know what they expected me to do, rub them together and hope friction produced more Malinois... I will not lie to them. I will not take my own dog there (yes two Mals getting along immediately... what planet are they on) It is sad that this attitude exists because it's not for the dog. My aunty wanted a dog from there, she literally had to beg and sit next to the pen for hours at a time before they let her have the dog (which was a neurotic mess they didn't do anything with) which I think personally is degrading. Good luck to them and their attitude. The BRT frankly should be returned to its breeder or to an experienced BRT breeder but it won't be. Sunshine, roses and lolly pop land.
  18. I never had to train at all I just rocked up on an assessment day. My rottweiler went to a nursing home and my DDB went to a disabled day centre.
  19. You can charge more money with labels like that. God bless Google searches. Makes everything so much more professional.
  20. I have been trying a development program on her to see how she grows up. Even the vet has said she's physically advanced to anything he has seen before. I'm breeding a litter of Malinois at the end of the year so they will get the same treatment obviously it's doing her a world of good!
  21. No nonsense allowed and honestly, my dogs did most of the work helping him out. Nothing like being berated by a pack of Malinois to pull a dog into line  I was thinking about putting him in too as an assistance dog but he needs a life and he needs to be a dog. He was in no way a leader, he was a big follower so he could not have coped long term with that job. The little black and tan banshee on the other hand ... christ she discovered leaping and swatting last night so she decided to spider monkey leap my frenchie's head and when she fell over, proceeded to blame it all ON said frenchie by growling and mouthing her on the leg... She also tried to beat up one of the malinois despite being not even 6 inches at the shoulder *sigh*
  22. We can't adopt from AAPS as we have entire dogs, have been knocked back twice. There is also a male Malinois there as well. Thanks for the thoughts though, would snap him up otherwise!
  23. No not the lines I'm interested in. I will probably donate her to the Young Diggers program as a PTSD assistance dog as she's very confident and well socialised already. Nothing phases her she goes with me in the car, plays with all my dogs already and used to noisy places.
