Lakelands are great dogs - one of my neighbours had one when I was a kid - it was always ready to play any games we wanted.

Perry always gets up early on a Tuesday and is waiting by the front door at 8am for her best friend Erika the cleaning lady to arrive.

I could not agree more. I do not understand why live pets in pet shops are not banned. I understand that the City of Toronto in Canada is about to ban them and the rest of the country is expected to follow suit. The Province of Quebec is also about to introduce some legislation to stop puppy farming but I don't have any details yet. Maybe if the RSPCA do not have enough inspectors they should hand the inspection part of their job to someone else.

Tell them that if they think they are Koolie or Koolie X they are very welcome to join the koolie club - I can give them the contacts and to bring them to sheepdog school at Binalong when they are six months or so. I am glad they are safe.

Lots of Koolies around the NSW/Victorian hill country - they could easily be Koolie. I can go and have a look at them and give an in the flesh opinion if you want since I am probably the closest person who has seen a lot of Koolie pups. Are they in a forever home now? I do hope China pulls through - I really feel for you - what a worry.

BC Crazy - just go for older ones - there are always plenty of quieter older ones looking for homes.

I am already retired and have a very lively 8 year old Koolie - perfect retirement dog for me - I hope she will see me into my mid 70s and then I will take in retired working Koolies and Borders who need a nice sunny spot to be spoilt in their retirement.

Yes - what a shame - only 5 people booked - I thought they would be swamped.

Perry has one of those that says "Sheepdog 1st class" and one that says "Obedience School Dropout" with her details on the back - they have both worn pretty well.

Several of the nursing homes in the ACT have resident dogs and most of the others have dogs visiting every week. Perry often goes and does things with Alzheimers and she loves it because of the attention she gets and they like her because she is so soft and fluffy.

After dinner when she is curled up happily with a full tummy snoring her head off, and on Tuesday mornings when she waits at the front door for Erika the cleaning lady ready to cover her with kisses, and her sheer excitement when we go to sheepdog school and for two hours en route I can hear her tail thumping against the back of her seat.

Perry hates it - she regards herself as a long coated wash and wear working dog and I have to say that she stays pretty clean and her fur does not mat and the only time she gets brushed is when she has a hydrobath which I insist on every 4 weeks whether she feels she needs it or not.

Lots of snow everywhere this week - cheapest place to stay would be Cooma and drive down.

Brunos also makes the best coffee eclairs I have ever tasted and I have tried them all over the world. I agree about his sausage rolls.

Cupacumbalong is closed. There is a fenced dog park on Lake Tuggeranong. Bruno's Truffles is excellent (I especially recommend the banana truffles) and their bread is lovely and it is not not far from me but it does mean coming to the south side of Canberra which will take you away from your main route. Are you intending to stop overnight en route to Dalgety?

Koolies - the right size and if you choose carefully you can get one with very limited herding instincts - they like a lot of exercise and are intelligent and wash and wear dogs. Check out http://www.australian-koolies.info/ .

If there is no snow around Dalgety you are not likely to find it outside the National Parks - it has been pretty warm and rainy the last week. Berrima is a nice picturesque village to walk around and there are usually a few cafes open where you can have dogs outside. Lake George, the disappearing lake, is worth a 5 minute stop and leg stretch. Lots of interesting things to see in Canberra and if you want to let the dogs out to run around in a safe area you can buy day membership in the mornings at the Canberra Companion Dog Club and they will have a fenced field to play in. Plenty of places to walk near the lakes in Canberra as well although Lake Burley Griffin is largely an on lead area. Next place I would stop after that is Jindabyne but some others may know other places. You can let the dogs run around by the lake there too. After that you are almost at Dalgety. Have a good time and I hope you find some snow for them.

Flags and balloons and sailing boats. She was once attacked by a shiny red heart balloon outside a florist on a windy Valentines Day - she bravely grappled it to the ground, pounced on it and killed it to the delight of the passersby but the dismay of the florist who asked me to pay for it. The flags and sailing boats I am sure are connected - she does not like the sound of the wind flapping them or the clink of the metal fittings. I just try and avoid all three things.
