  1. I work from home most of the week so I have lots of conversations with the dogs (in the few minutes they are awake ). I have absolutely no idea why, but I talk to Patch (but not the others) in a spanish accent (Hola Patchy!)
  2. Despite her knowing my views, my sister mated her two byb boxers (male with a very dodgy temp). Things have not turned out as planned Bitch had to have an emergency c-section 5 puppies born (they thought they lost all of them) 3 days on they lost 2 in one morning - one wasn't thriving and they think the second was squashed Remaining 3 weren't putting on much weight so she started supplementary feeding They just lost a 3rd (so now only 2 left) - I got greeted with the heart breaking sight of the bitch carrying the dead pup the other day it was awful Bitch's milk has stopped and she was very stressed. They have had to pull out the remaining 2 pups and are exhausted looking after them full time She admitted it has not been the wonderful experience she had thought it would be.
  3. Oh Jesus they are keeping her - argh!
  4. Very good news that the damage to your hand and foot is not more serious HW!
  5. I have no words Poor Stan and Maddy - and you too. Did you get any rest last night?
  6. I am very sorry Kirislin. Many hugs for you and the rest of your doggies.
  7. Yes this and what everyone else has said. Much love to both of you.
  8. Thinking if you and Kibah. Hope it is just an easy solved issue and she is ok
  9. How wonderful! Hope the exhibition is a huge success.
  10. Phew! Don't think I could have logged in to a better update! So happy for you and for Miss Feather
  11. Glad she has managed to eat. Hope you both have a quiet and restful nights sleep. And what a good girl Neko is to keep her company.
  12. Oh gosh Kirslin, how scary for feather and do you. Hope she is resting comfortably and recovers quickly,
  13. CBL, the thundershirt hasn't worked for my storm phobic Belgian & I did a lot of preparatory work beforehand too, as advised. In fact she seems to overheat in it & the panting gets worse. Seems it works for some & not for others, but it is worth persevering & giving it another go. Thanks trifecta - I will give it another go and if it doesn't work i will donate it to rescue.
  14. Both of my greyhounds wear them, Maddie's first test was last night, and they work well for both, thankfully. They don't work for all unfortunately What size have you got CBL? I got the large - he was in the weight range but stupid me didn't think to check his chest size. Patch was blinded in a storm so I totally understand his reaction to thunder/crackers. He is much better than he used to be but last night just paced and clung to me (with his heart racing). Glad you guys had success though! I will try it on him again in a storm - still thinking of trying one on Oscar to take the edge off his vet visits...
  15. We tried ours for the first time last night but it didn't work Because he is a greyhound I wondered if the fit might not be right due to his deep chest?
  16. Patch is the only one of my 3 who is scared of storms. Before we got him he got hit by hail in a storm which blinded one eye - so I totally understand why he is scared He is actually getting a lot better that he used to be - he just paces around the place when they hit. I was thinking of trying a thundershirt to see if it just takes the edge off for him.
  17. Both my greys usually go for the iggy bed before the big ones
  18. Ours all start the night in various beds in the hallway or the spare room. Oscar sneaks into our room after we are asleep and gets in under the doona, usually curled up behind my knees. After that the other 2 have a race to curl up in his bed as it is closest to our room - it is also the smallest bed but they both love it. Lilly will sometimes try to sneak in early in the morning but she is allowed up after breakfast for cuddles.
  19. My Lilly has the sweetest most gorgeous personality (and my husband adores her) and she is black. She is the ultimate happy dog - you only have to say her name and her tail wags - but when we go out, people either gravitate to our greyhound boy (he is blue and white - and is very relaxed and quiet) or the little iggy. Poor Lilly doesn't get the love.
  20. Aww she is sounding like she is settling in well! Give the others time, they will come round. We were really worried about Patch (given the size difference and that he can be a grumpy old man) but they played pretty sensibly. He would lie down and play face biteys and wrestle gently that way with Oscar.
  21. Can't wait to hear all about the first day! I can remember picking oscar up from his breeders, then going to my inlays for him to meet patch before we all went home together :) then that night, after stating that Oscar would not be sleeping in our room, I found husband, asleep on the floor next to the puppy pen with a certain little man curled up asleep on his tummy.
  22. Yes they are amazing birds. I love their calls! There was a great study in the US a couple of years ago which showed how they can recognise faces (somehow they did brain scans on them!)
  23. That goes for any zoologist/ornithologist. I have to remember not to automatically correct people. The other one is when tawny frogmouths get called owls. In the scheme of things it doesn't matter but I get too caught up in it.
  24. Oh yes this! the subtle slow push to take over more room...
