  5. Slightly off topic...... I've mainly owned confident dogs who have been socialised from young etc...I recently got a new Rotty pup, at 16 weeks old however he hadn't had a great deal of early socialisation, never been out in a public place etc... We have been taking him everywhere and i've been doing drive building with him, i don't think he is weak nerved, but he has been quite jumpy out in public on occasion, but i think that's due to lack of early socialisation... He barks/growls at new stimulus (stays still doesn't go back)and is quite dominant to dogs he meets, though he also plays happily with dogs too. I understand he's only a baby, but how do i know what is weak nerves naturally and just new reaction to new stimuli? He recovers quickly usually, but he'll pull against the leash at first to avoid something he's really worried of..... Example being a shop airconditioner on the ouside blowing. He is confident around Trucks/cars/motorbikes/people/chairs falling/and loud bangs.....etc He's a 'watcher' rather then "go straight in and get" Pup... He was bought with Schutzhund in mind... Any idea's?
  6. Don't worry about the comments you get, whether cross or pure, she looks healthy and happy forget the insults
  7. VDK, I would say your puppy is crossed with a Dobermann........ the side shot and the tight coat, suggest that............. Pandii. Tyson looks to be Purebred IMO...............
  8. Here's a classic!....................."My Dog 'ate' my shoes because he 'hates' me"
  9. Does anyone know where in OZ you can get leerburg dvds??
  10. yep......none of my dogs are fussed by it either.......
  11. I have placed puppies carefully onto their backs whilst in my arms,as part of assessing their temperaments, i always labelled it as "Alpha" rolling, but it was only done carefully with a gentle touch.....also i have corrected aggressive pups with this.......but i guess i've mislabelled what i've been doing..........
  12. I don't have any questions..........but.... thank you k9 for your words of wisdom........I have used these techniques with great success for awhile....... Great thread

  14. Hi Mickatie, I feed supercoat puppy and a variety of cheese, meat scraps, Natural plain yoghurt, 1 egg per fortnight sometimes fresh fruit/veg like carrot/brocoli stalks to knaw on. I use chicken wings/frames/necks too, however be careful of the necks,(possible choking hazard). My Dogs get these foods sometimes The base meal is Dryfood and meat scraps and yoghurt/cheese. I've never had any problems using Supercoat, I have tried the others, but this works well with my Dogs and I also believe science diet active is quite good, though fish oils are needed as it does dry the coat quite a bit.. I agree with the other posts, the rice and the alphabets are not necessary.
  15. There is also a Greyhound formula that works wonders called Box 1 gold, It's around $30 for 18-20kgs.I have used this for post whelp bitches.... Give the coprice a go too.... Feed twice daily definately, avoids bloat and in general dogs like the "extra" meal. Good Luck! Another excellent way to get weight on, is Puppy formulated dry food..
  16. Choose and stick with what your Dog thrives on..... Many Breeders/owners use supercoat with good results, I am one of them and i will not use a product that costs double the price for half the quality It is not "you get what you pay for" all the time with Animal food. People on this forum are continually telling people to try new foods at whatever the price, that's true to a degree, But if your Dog does well on PAL yes i said Pal! then good for you! Use it, for your dog . If you go RAW and it works that's good too! There is no point in trashing brands of food for somebody else's pet, because for all we know, their Dog could thrive on what we wouldn't recommend :D As a person who has bred Dogs, i would have no hesitation recommending Supercoat, pedigree advance, Science diet active, bonnie working formula, box 1 gold. Good Luck
  17. My girl has a keen nose, she's naturally very responsive to all members of the family, she however was chosen solely on temp from the litter.... Biting down on the sleeve is important, "hitting it" that's what my Dogs do, to bring down punching bags before shred and attack time
  18. Bex, Your Pup sounds as though he has great potential for a temp assessment. I have a Rotty puppy who is quite keen to learn and she has good defense drive and Prey, though she does have a small amount of fear which is a good thing! An over confident dog does not make a reliable protector, it takes an element of fear to bring forward physical aggression IMHO. Good On/Off switches are a must for Schutzhund dogs, some breeds are "easier" to turn on and OFF. This would be why some clubs are particular with the Dogs.... Good luck with it all
  19. Hi There, There is nothing i could add to this thread in regard to SCHUTZHUND that is not already covered. However, you mention "guarding" ability at 16 weeks old(4 months) can you elaborate on this to myself and Myzka please?
  20. I mainly use supercoat but sometimes the adults are switched to Science diet active. I used to use Box1 gold, for adults it keeps them looking great, it's a excellent Greyhound formula it is wonderful for weight gain.
  21. poor pup, some times lives are taken because they are needed elsewhere but know this ....she is happy! fly free puppy girly..fly free
  22. There are Breeds of Dogs who may be better suited to Dogsport, as kavik listed, but ALL dogs REGARDLESS of breed are allowed to be tested for suitability, this means XBRED Dogs to in oz, obviously for fun and not to determine good breeding.
  23. Whilst i do not do Dogsport, i will in the future, firstly my girl at the age of 12 months will need to perform well in the BH test(begleithund)(companion Dog)That's obedience. Providing she does well, we will go further to Multiple traffic conditions test after that we will know for certain whether she is Schutzhund material. I believe there to be a tracking test also the dog must pass.. Any Breed of dog can do schutzhund, providing the dog has the correct temperament. You are aware the Dog will be deemed as Dangerous and a permit must be obtained, in some states i believe it is illegal? Which is silly due to the FACT it is Dogsport, Tracking, protection, obedience. What about Schutzhund interests you? :D http://www.finographics.com/schutzhund/sport.html
