Dr Jean Dodds - New "food Intolerance Test Kit"
Erny replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Didn't know they were going to do that (figured they'd expand, but didn't know how soon). I think I'll still proceed with this one. Chances are the next will be more expensive and maybe our Aussie dollar won't be worth what it is now, so I might not stand to be that much more out of pocket for it. -
Hills Science J/d (joint Diet) - Limited Availability
Erny replied to pipsqueak's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I can't get the Hills (Prescription) Z/D. The Vet where I source this from tells me the Hills people are saying they cannot give an ETA. -
Ping Pong Ball-sized Lump On Back Of Neck - Brand New
Erny replied to jadesamara's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am finding the trend with numerous Vets is to go straight to the neck for blood. I thought getting blood from the neck was in general, easier?? I agree with the previous comments - injected the dog based on what prognosis. I've commented before on so many "just in case's" occurring. I know that in some instances this could be justified. But it is not an infrequent occurrence. -
Dr Jean Dodds - New "food Intolerance Test Kit"

Thanks JulesP - you're probably right. It is logical not to have him eat right when I'm doing or about to do the test and I'm thinking that's what Dr Dodds would tell me. I just don't want to go to the time, trouble (driving over to the Fed-Ex drop off point) and expense to find out I did it wrong and that the results aren't reliable. -

Thanks ES. I've tried to make contact on other Facebook site/s but I think they must all be OS and maybe even asleep. -
Dr Jean Dodds - New "food Intolerance Test Kit"
Erny replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes - I got the test from Hemopet (Dr Jean Dodds). Dr Dodds' trial fee is $55.00 It will cost me about $70.00 to send it via Fed Ex I will definitely be telling on DOL how things went - I'm not yet sure it is going to tell me a lot though, as it seems it doesn't (yet) test for every possible protein. -
Dr Jean Dodds - New "food Intolerance Test Kit"
Erny posted a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have received the test kit. I need to collect the saliva sample. All pretty simple but what I can't seem to find out is whether your dog has to fast for any period of time prior to collecting the saliva sample. Anyone know? I've emailed Dr Jean but it is nearly 9pm over there at the moment. This is the first full day off I've had to be able to run errands and catch up on things like this in the last few weeks, so I really wanted to do it today. I need to get to the Fed-Ex drop-off point with the sample by about 5pm. If I can't find the answer I will of course wait, but it just throws a spanner in my plans for today so I've been trying to find out some other way. -
I've not had to deal with Cherry Eye myself before (although I knew of it) and this thread got me a bit interested, so I did a bit of a google. Came across YouTube link that you might find useful to listen to.Sounded to me as though it provided some good basic information and ideas.

You tried, Teebs. And King Tip got to enjoy the warmth and comfort that kind humans can provide, before he left. And DA ...... I was fine until I read your post.

Obedience Trialling A Blind Dog
Erny replied to Romysaxon's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good for you for your work with your dog, the achievement you have obtained and for working towards even higher ambitions . I'm not going to be a great deal of help (other than what has already been suggested, as I'm not familiar with what would or would not be allowed by the Judges in the trialling ring) but I will say that I recently had a dog in for B&T and he too was blind in the right eye. When he first came to me he used to circle me almost consistently as I walked - he'd learnt that by doing this he could keep his eye on me and see the world as we walked. I actually purposely taught him to hang back a little so that his good left eye could see me as well as see ahead of himself. So I fully understand why your dog would want to lag. -
Ooh! I missed this update. How fantastic, KL. Well done to you and your folks. Keep rockin', Chloe

Love the "I don't have an entire bitch, I just like answering polls" option. I don't have an entire bitch, by the way. I do like answering polls. But I didn't vote as the results of this would be interesting and would be great if they could remain as true and accurate as possible. ETA: Just noticed Ness also got a giggle out of the "just like answering polls" option. Sorry - I wasn't copying. Genuine laughter.

Would this be done at a normal vet? She does have some of the other conditions listed, being hair loss, dull coat, cold intolerance, skin odour and dry skin, decrease in tolerance for exercise - yes that is her latest thing of when I take her for a walk after 15 mins she just wants to lay down... hmmmm. Worth looking into, thanks Erny. Given what you've just written - I'd be hot footing it to your Vet's as one of my first ports of call. How is it done? You do need to have your Vet draw the bloods. Your Vet needs to have a centrifugal machine as the blood needs to be spun down to serum. Refer to the following link - scroll almost half the way down to find the links to the "outside of USA" instructions and request forms. You would need to request the Thyroid Profile 5™ PLUS (Formerly the 7200) test for this first one. Dr Jean Dodds - Thyroid Request Forms and Instructions The Vet should give the vial of serum to you so you can send them via Fed-Ex International Courier. Follow the instructions for sending dog blood serum OS. I reiterate that Australia does not test as thorough as USA does and can. In addition, our scale for analysis is far more basic and simplistic (ie Small; Medium; Large dog) than Dr Jean in the USA, who takes into account breed as well as age.

I'd be inclined to train my dog that another dog means nothing. IE - it does not mean it's an opportunity to meet and greet. Work my dog around other dogs? Yes - definitely (in a controlled environment). Work so that my dog is excited about me and what I have to offer rather than other dogs? Yes - definitely, as much as possible.

Unsure What Is Wrong With My Girl.
Erny replied to BC Crazy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd also be wanting to check whether a Zinc deficiency could be the culprit. From Dr Jean Dodds and Diana R. Laverdure's book "The Canine Thyroid Epidemic" "Symptoms of 'zinc-responsive dermatosis' include hair loss, dull and dry hair coat, scaly, crusty skin around the legs, head, and face (especially on the nose and circling the eyes, ears, chin and mouth), poor wound healing, and thick and crusty foot pads." Zinc affects the production of thyroid hormones as well. ETA: I don't think I'd like to wash my dog with a chemical shampoo (much less with one that would impact by causing drowsiness) on a "just in case" basis. -
So, when I say I have seen head collar injury, you reject that because you can't believe it on my own say so and insist it is hearsay? You need me to post the photo's? It is hearsay until Corvus is convinced? This does go back to my comment about having experience though. You obviously haven't. It's not about catching you Corvus. It's not about you at all (is that a surprise?). Why do you suggest that I think you are trying to undermine me? You really do have a habit of twisting things by adding in silly comments in your post such as those.

I'm thinking a blockage - potentially in the esophagus. Your description sounds like that of Kal (my avatar girl). Kal's no longer with me (bhcs) but not because of the incident I now refer to. It turned out she'd swallowed a huge (half tennis ball size/shape) bone and it lodged solidly low down in the esophagus. She was in an immense amount of pain - hunched back; agitated. ETA: You're there - I'm not. Also, you know your dog where I don't. But personally, I would allow my dog to assume his/her own position as it might be that it is the most comfortable.
-
THESE are a couple of things you wrote in your "claiming hearsay" post, Corvus. Head Collars can and do cause injury. I've seen the result. I don't need to sit down, log it, and try it again to get more injury to convince myself that the first time I saw the injury, it was real. PPCollars can be superior tools to check chains and head collars. I've seen the results. Again - I don't have to spend time sitting to log the results on paper to convince myself. I see what I see. Good results overall that weren't being achieved with the use of a check chain or head collar. IMO that renders the PPCollar a superior tool at least for that situation. NOW you're saying you made a "general" comment - yet you aligned that comment with some fairly specific things. I am responding to what you wrote.

It is not unlike what Mandela's has looked like.
-
I do not deny that there are benefits to science, Mrs RB. But I don't write down all else to hearsay either. That is not precisely what Corvus has said, but there did seem to be inference along those lines and given many of her other posts which tend to denounce anything that isn't substantiated by science, it's hard not to believe that's what she meant.
-
That's a good photo, Stormie. Poor Orbi with the vanishing Peni . I tried to take a photo of Mandela's and, well, it didn't really work out. I sent you a PM, Stormie. But it's in a different format and I'm not sure if you get notified the same way as we used to.

That's only because you typed your response between the quotation codes. The quote should go between the quotation codes. Your response/statement etc should go outside the quotation codes. Come on Bo ..... you're nearly there, .
