  1. the dog wasn't wearing a jacket from what i read. Does that mean i can take any old dog where ever i want and claim its an assistance dog and scream discrimination when they don't belive me? or is there some sort of laminated ID that the person carried, identifying the dog as an official assistance dog?
  2. Discrimination is pretty rife throughout our various Victorian dog laws. Eg. Dog #1 in Public Place - Microchipped and Council Reg'd. Not actually wearing Council Rego Tag on collar. Ka Ching! $240.00 Fine to that dog owner, thank you very much. Dog #2 in Public Place - Microchipped and Council Reg'd. Not actually wearing Council Rego Tag on collar. But has been shown at Dogs Victoria Sanctioned event in last 12 months. That's ok then. No fine to that dog owner. Off Topic I know (sorry Steve) but it reveals even more of the stupidity, futility and discrimination created by our ill thought out laws. And this one did NOT go through without mention. There were objections. But the Labor Govt pushed it through regardless. And ashamedly, the Liberal/National Parties asserted the laws were flawed but in the same breath and sentence announced to Parliament they would not oppose them. So we have a Government creating stupid, cruddy and faulty laws and we have a Coalition knowing they are stupid, cruddy and faulty laws but giving them a green light anyway. God help us . probably how hitler got his through and the jews into ghettos then the concentration camps...little by little and bit by bit........... scary isnt it
  3. The RSPCA slao has the authority to use disgression when it comes to enforcing that legislation. They chose to go after a soft target and just about destroyed her in the process. So, if its alright with everyone here, i will beat up the RSPCA.
  4. if i had a choice, i certainly wouldn't feed it. i find it particularly greasy and ick. but its all my dag can eat, believe me, I've tried. it really does look like i wont be able to save money on it, if the online places do sell it cheaper, its the shipping to WA that gets me. oh, well there was no harm in trying, i suppose. thanks for all your help guys. oh and as far as poos go, i have found Juggs poo to be dark and firm, i have certianly seen worse (like when i trialed her on Supercoat).
  5. i currently pay around $130 for a 15.4kg bag, does anyone know if it is sold cheaper anywhere (including postage) and if you'd recomend these places? thanks a bundle ;)
  6. Dogs come in, or have a toilet break just before i go to bed, usually they are fed then too, then they are in until morning. if i don't have work then it could be upto 12 hours, if i have work then its about 9 or 10 hours. The Saint is great and will wake us up is she needs to go in that time, but rarely does. If she is on anyother food then what she is on now she can't even hold long enough to wake us up, but thats not a toilet training issue and its why we ripped up the carpet and laid tiles. when we had the baby in our room - and therefore couldn't let her in or she'd wake baby up- we used to crate her in the lounge room so we could hare her wake up (plastic crate makes a lot of noise) and get her out to the toilet. this worked weall but once and it was just a matter of a few seconds too. the pug is a little turd and actually holds until he is let in, the only way i have found that stops this is containing him over night, but not wanting to crate him, i have his crate open and in a play pen. he poo'd in there once on the second night and never has again. he is also a lazy little thing (much like me) and wont get out of bed, so once the saint goes out, he can lay in bed for up to another 2hrs, and becasue if this, i have, twice now, forgotten to put him out altogether. both these times he had held on until i have gotten home. he's lucky i only work half days!
  7. My pug has has chicken wings, necks and frames. Never a problem. unless you ask him of course, then he'll tell there is a major problem with him not getting nearly enough of these things.
  8. i had a similar issue the other night, but the guy could alopogise more (but maybe that has something to do with Juggernaut [60kg St Bernard] growling at him with her hackles up. i rarely walk my dogs, it has been put in the 'Too Hard' basket, what with no pram, onlya flimsy stroller, Juggernaut inclined to just lunge and rip my shoulder out when she wants to sniff something, and Herbie (pug) insisting on getting tangled and run over by the stroller. Not to mention the fact that no one here walks their dogs on lead and Juggernaut is quite reactive (mostly due to no being walked often). BUT i revcently decided that i need to take this dog walking this out of the too hard basket and dust it off and give it a red hot go. So i set off at about 7pm, both dogs and child in the pram, and other then the regular stops to untangle, things were going well, they weren't pulling too bad and were both sticking to my left, so i was feeling confidant. as i got to the end of my street i crossed the main-ish road and was in the median strip, and while i was getting the dogs to sit before crossing the other side of the road, is see i guy in his bike, on his phone and him saying "oh mate, i gotta go" and haning up. Next thing, his dog (a really pretty and smallish Staffy X) darts across the road to us, and Naut leaps across in from of the stroller (either to get the dog or to get between the dog and the baby), Herbie is all tangles in Nauts legs, the leads and Naut at tipping the stroller (Naut is practically on top of the child now). But before the dog could get close enough the guy rides in and dumps his bike, yelling at his dog. The dog back off to the middle of the road and rolls belly up. So now this guy (as far as Juggernaut can tell) has just run into out space yelling at us and acting all agressive. So she is placing herself between us and him, growling and hackles up, and barking. So he's sh!tting and unable to move. after all the ruskus I get Juggernaut and Herbie back under control and he goes and gets his dog (the poor thing is terrified now) and he apologises, and explains that she never does that, and thats why he's didn't have a lead. i felt sorry for the dog and suggested that is was probably Juggernauts size that set his dog off. And once the dogs were sitting again (he held his dog and waited until) we crossed the road and left. but in the few minutes it all was a bit mad and scary. The rest of the walk was pretty uneventful, Juggernaut just wanted to get pats be anyone that passed, again almost tipping the stoller every time, and i did kind of be a massive b!tch to a lady who had a pug cross that came from a "breeder in Victoria" but not a puppy farm, i rolled my eyes and said "yeah right", but her pug X has a massive go at Herbie, so i was pissed at her to start with... now i feel abit bad that i can't go for one walk without getting into dog politics LOL
  9. Thanks every one, i will relay the what i have learnt to my Dad and hopefully we can agange something for Addie.
  10. Thats exactly why i figured sending Addie over to here (WA) would be pointless. and to be hontest, i was suprised that someone would sell her a malanois, she certainly knows her stuff, and you'd never guess her age, but i would never even concider this breed for myself at a spritely 25yo. LOL. as for what she could do differently, i don't know, i was hoping there would be a training method that would allow Addie to get the Drive satisfaction that she needs, without Grandma having to run her or tire her out physically. Grandma certainly has the time. When i first met Addie, back in September last year, she seemed very skittish and aloof. Lets is all in the back gate while she barked as us from the other side of the veggie patch. Not my kind of Dog, and certainly not the cuddly type, but Belgian shepherds have been the familys breed of choice for years. She definantly can be and is a strong leader, just lacking on the side of physical strength and ability. Think of my grandma as the great Aussie character that books are written about LOL.
  11. My 79yo Grandma has an young Malinois, and since my uncle is no longer living there and running her along the beach every day she is going a little stir crazy. My Dad called me today to look for trainers here in perth with the idea of flying this dog (a female, named Adelaide, or Addie for short) over for a few months or training. I figured with her being such an intelligent breed, regardless of how well trained she is, she will find and exploit any weakness my Grandma shows. Don't get me wrong, Grandma is as tough as old boots (10 kids!) and is no push over, but she is unable to do the active type work and run any of this energy out of Addie. With this in mind, i though the better options would possible be to look at a specific method of training (Drive Training came to mind as, from what i know, i once established, Grandma would have very effective control, but i don't know if any drive trainers offer that as a service 'We'll train 'em and sent them back' type thing) or getting a trainer from the area to work with Grandma and Addie at their place. So, i am just asking every one what they think is the better option in this situation? and if any one can recommend a super-duper trainer in the area around that Westfield Marian shopping Centre? Thanks in advance, and i will check in and anwere any question later on tonight. C.

  15. Not sure who is sillier - PETA or the President of the GroundHog Club that can apparently speak "groundhogese"... I tell you what though, must be tough being a kid in Pennsylvania when a ground hog has a more luxurious lifestyle.... PETA calls for robotic groundhog Posted 1 hour 14 minutes ago Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2 each year to see whether or not Punxsutawney Phil emerges from his burrow. (Reuters: Jason Cohn, file photo) Organisers of America's annual Groundhog Day celebration have dismissed calls to replace the famous ground-dwelling squirrel with a robot. According to folklore, if the groundhog, which hibernates over winter, sees its shadow when it emerges from its burrow it will retreat back inside and winter will continue for another six weeks. Groundhog Day, made famous by the movie of the same name, is a holiday celebrated on February 2 each year to see whether or not Punxsutawney Phil, who appeared in the movie, emerges from his burrow. But now animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has called for a robot to spare Phil the glare of the spotlight. Groundhog Club president Bill Deeley describes PETA's request as "very ridiculous". But PETA says the dawn ceremony, which is attended by as many as 40,000 people in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, can be traumatising for the groundhog. "Groundhogs are typically shy animals and are likely to feel fear and stress when they are out of their burrows," PETA said in a statement. "Each year on February 2, Punxsutawney Phil is trotted out to face human handling and hundreds of noisy people, flashing lights and cameras." But Mr Deeley disagreed, saying groundhogs may be done hibernating and starting to emerge from their burrows to begin the mating season. He also defended the club against charges of mistreating Phil, saying he gets an annual medical check-up and lives in a zoo enclosure that is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. "He's treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania," Mr Deeley said. A robotic groundhog would also not be able to communicate its prognostication to the president of the club, who claims to be the only person in the world to speak "groundhogese". "I couldn't talk to a robot," Mr Deeley said. "And the robot couldn't talk groundhogese." For groundhog lovers who are unwilling to spend a cold night waiting for Punxsutawney Phil to emerge, organisers this year are for the first time offering to text the prognostication to people's cell phones. More than 15,000 people have signed up to receive the alert.
