  1. Keeping naming of parties out of this but it definitely is political and budgetary. Different NSW state govts have different ways. It's been a long slow process of trying to get land and funding. Apparently another major party says they will provide funding if elected. Will wait to see. Our current govt invested in the e.g the new Grafton greyhound track. 4+ mil. A different kind of welfare funding. https://www.nsw.gov.au/media-releases/nsw-government-invests-greyhound-racing-future
  2. Thank you asal. Very sobering information.
  3. Do you mean when you say 'discussion about the cost', that you are asking them to lower their fees (or negotiate)?

I've seriously run out of things to say to you that will sink in. I'm putting you on ignore.
  5. No. It's not fair on your older dog to bring in a puppy. Leave things the way they are.

@coneye all I mean is the topic is literally titled 'Scared' so she's already realised the situation is dire and I agree she isn't making good choices at the moment. I get where you're passionately coming from, you just could have put it more succinctly without the added jabs of her being an idiot. People come here for advice which is going to be varied, whether they take it or not is up to them.

Ouch coneye! That's full on. Despite her massive stuff-up she doesn't deserve to be ridiculed on a public forum. Belinda74, from a rescue perspective, there's lots of staffies on death row who wouldn't hurt a fly so a dog with rapidly escalating antisocial behaviour and a history of biting children is not even in the running. Let alone a huge liability issue for anyone who owns or rehomes her. You have 2 options and need to make a choice. Sorry to rub salt in the wound but she's your dog and your responsibility.

I'm so sorry. It's a commitment from all of you to go through the behavioural process and possibly meds. OR (and I don't ever say it lightly) there might be something really wrong with her and she would need to go to god. With this in mind, I suggest you take in as much as you can from here and behavioural professionals. It's your tot that I worry about. If it were a house with only adults, I'd say you have more time. But It's got to be one or the other. You can't expect her to be passed on/rehomed with that history. And the only way to literally save her life is to get specialist help right now. A pen and a muzzle in the meantime.
  9. Crunch numbers and see if you can save on a combo from Budget Pets. You only need to worm every three months so drontal allwormer is great. Valueheart is cheap heartworm monthly and plain Simparica is flea, mite, tick (incl paralysis monthly). It's not the same as giving one to cover everything, so you need your calendar.
  10. I'd never do it, it's not safe in Sydney (I understand about out camping and just running in to grab milk and the newspaper ) but on the other hand, why shouldn't it be safe? Why do we need to worry about dog attacks and thieving scumbags? Just a vent. I'm annoyed at the whole thing.
  11. Some farmstay dog boarding places have swimming holes. I'm sure for a fee, they would allow you to visit for a paddle.
  12. High percentage of cavs don't come into rescue until they have mammary tumours, green teeth and a shot heart. They are less likely to be the brand new healthy shiny ones snapped up in pounds and gumtree.
  13. My mobile phone number is private. I can't imagine the number of calls I'd get, when I see the inbox is bad enough. All excuses, who knows which are truthful. We all saw the covid fallout coming (for whatever reason the dogs and cats are dumped). Check gumtree and FB groups. There's a massive flurry of selling and FTGH of dogs who would have cost thousands. And always the staffie x types. Poor staffies & bull breeds. Covid buying doesn't explain the dumpage of long owned mature and senior dogs unless it really is the rental crisis and people unable to afford vet bills. They weren't covid purchases so we must be also dealing with hardship, social and economic issues.
  14. This also explains the amount of vetwork we're doing. It's not that much dearer than before, but times are really tough. Supplies and food, even online has leapt up significantly almost overnight. You used to be able to grab a bargain. I guess the new online prices are the new bargains. The number of contacts I get from people who can't keep their dog is heartbreaking. And pounds ... 30 dogs in just one email.
  15. Did you contact Andrea at Companions For Life (Maremma Rescuer) to see if she has room?
  16. If your vet is giving repeated courses of steroid you need a new vet. The body odour is yeast, a secondary reaction to oils. I'd skip straight to the dermatologist as well. Also, grab yourself a little set of clippers like this and always keep the hair short and this includes trimming their whole ear to help keep the air circulating. You'll get used to the look BTW I don't feed chicken to allergic dogs. It seems to aggravate things. edit; I meant the ear hair. Not the whole body.
  17. Never ever stop a steroid abruptly. If she's not doing well, you really need a vet check now. Her immune system is suppressed (which is what the meds do).

    Renal Problems

I'm no vet, but have had several senior dogs go down very fast from acute kidney disease. Versus chronic (which is slower and more responsive to diet), it just snowballs and affects their entire system very quickly. It's not known to cause pain, so as T says, she may have had more than one thing going on. I'm so sorry for your loss Rest in Peace little one
  19. You have to go outside with him and wait, even in the rain! Take treats and praise him to the skies when he does his toilet. I think you've thrown your hands in the air and given up way too soon. 6 month olds aren't 100% reliable ever.
  20. I'm just leaving this here, yes it's an RSPCA policy change. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-04/rspca-removes-kangaroo-meat-pet-food-animal-welfare-concerns/101499412
  21. Such a lovely pay-it-forward Yes, all mine are littlies and I have a spare 4wd mini wheelchair myself from my dear departed Mim. Thanks LG.
  22. Not 'new' news but so good to have it out there in an article! Senior dog adopters are a wonderful group of people.
