  1. Do you mean parvovirus? Or coronavirus? Did he stay in hospital?
  2. Scientists have long been using 'anthropomorphise' IMHO to negate the fact that yes, animals do have feelings and yes, the more they live with humans the more they pick up behaviour-wise and methods of communication. Left to themselves, of course animals aren't exposed to the same input. So of course they are going to be less relatable to humans but it pisses me off no end that our experiences with any animal is belittled as just a pathological need to relate.
  3. No problem. I might have made it sound like you need to try yoghurt and yakult, that's not what I meant. Sorry. LMO is right with having RC gastro care in the cupboard. We keep RC emergency care. It's good to know you have a little stock in case she goes off her food.
  4. 3 weeks of recurrent G.I. issues for a 17yr old is a very very long time. More than enough time has passed that you should be looking at alternatives to probiotics, yakult, yoghurt etc. You'll have to ask your vet about prescription medication. With elderly dogs, you need to have a comprehensive blood panel too, have they done that? Sorry your baby isn't feeling well.
  5. Spellcheck. You're rambling. And 'bring on the abuse' ..... you're the one losing the plot, nobody else.
  6. No way! You've explained so well! Our adoption fees cover a fraction of outgoing expenses. And the litters whelped in care, may as well throw your cheque book out the window.
  7. Also, there are re-sellers of cheaper dogs/puppies. They've always been around. It's just that there's more incentive now. $$$
  8. The alternative is to have mentors and the use of proper breeder experienced veterinary services. Education. People breeding popular breeds need to stop lying and claiming fantasy theories about their provenance and health. They are not doing even the 'new' or exotic (meaning long haired frenchies etc) breeds any favours. Extinction isn't going to happen in our lifetime (despite the pressure from PETA and other nutters) but rare and endangered breeds are going to die out due to lack of popularity or even knowledge of their existence. Or maybe even the possessive nature of keeping them within an elite circle.
  9. It's weird. As if BYB care about limited register. Sell entire dogs and believe a bit of paper will keep them from being bred from. I don't know the politics of breeding though. Perhaps someone will explain the logic.
  10. Always, incl the fosters, wherever I go the boys follow me and even wait while I have a shower. So I have a couple of beds in the bathroom. Girls seem to need to know what you're doing, make sure you're ok, then go wait where they are most comfy. Same chance of discharge unless you are letting her come into season, virtually nil in a desexed pet to what I've noticed though.
  11. I know you said they approach you, but are you letting him run up to other dogs? Some dogs get very annoyed at being approached by an uninvited dog no matter how friendly.
  12. Or Mum needs to change the wifi password.
  13. Meh, those sites are full of scammers, you'll need to compare all the ads. https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/yzaxoorxt-show-quality-puppies-bedford/
  14. I honestly hope you can find a spot. I will watch this thread for leads. There can't be that many out there because we often have surrenders for that very reason and no family can/will help. It's so sad.
  15. Fix your house yard or buy a large run!! It can be done. It just takes effort. One day it won't be an endangered or protected species, it will be an angry brown snake and you will kick yourself for having had the chance to save her but ignored all the warning signs.
  16. All these breeds are the ANKC registered ones the highlighted ones have further information. https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/dog-breeders.asp Honestly, people have imported their chosen breeds themselves. You just can't get every breed here.
  17. Have you looked at Japanese Spitz? Not sure you'll find an Eskimo, could be wrong.
  18. Recently? Google 'The Rule Of Three'. 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. Like Rebanne says, we advise people to go all the way back to positive reinforcement puppy training (no old school shouting or rubbing of noses in pee). It's effort but it works. I'll skip over the bit about females marking territory like boys do, because she's a new addition and puppy training is what you need to learn right now. Congrats on your senior dog adoption.
  19. Vets are considered an essential service and travel to see one is considered an animal welfare issue. Check with AWL to confirm if you're worried. They've put out several notices. I agree, if you are not going to be a full time WFH person after Covid I'd begin teaching her how to amuse herself and be happy to happily stay in a puppy pen without your input. When life finally goes back to normal she will have to cope without you.
  20. It's so hard when you can't actually see a physical illness that makes the euthanasia option less painful for you. Go MRI or CT or further testing if it will help in your decision. But your dog is not well, and becoming very dangerous too. I don't know if he is suffering or if he is even aware of what he's doing - but his life is not happy and of quality. That's all we want for our dogs, is to be happy and loving life. I'm so sorry but I wouldn't judge you for releasing him peacefully back to the universe.
  21. I know nothing about Dobermann breeders and Fireax is the only re breeder I have in my brain bank. They must have been around for years. Main thing to be very careful of is that scammers are using registered breeder's prefix and reg numbers to scam people so only use the contact info you can confirm through dogzonline rather than gumtree for example. https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/dobermann.asp
  22. It's no replacement for vet care, but supportive therapies can assist. I recommend McDowell's Herbal. Send them a message here https://shop.mcdowellsherbal.com/forms/consultation you don't want to have two conflicting treatments working against each other. I also recommend you seek out a specialist. She may have an antibiotic resistant bug. Have they ever done testing or an ultrasound?
