Fluffy Whitester: the dog we've been dreaming of for 7 years.
_PL_ replied to Zenial's topic in General Dog Discussion
Welcome and I'm so sorry for your loss. Not sure if it's relevant to you but Poms and Papillon do shed but can be kept nice with regular attention. Maltese and Bichon don't but the trade-off is regular grooming or they will tangle/matt, so I guess I mean more expense or learning to D.I.Y. All different temperament but my experience is majority adult rescues so you'll get help here about suitable natures. Sorry I can't be of help with finding breeders. Did you check out the Dol list of registered breeders?. Papers might not be a deal breaker but it's nice to be able to create a good relationship and learn the lines your doggy is related to https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/dog-breeders.asp -
Requiring customers to sign agreements regarding desexing?

Requiring customers to sign agreements regarding desexing?

While that is a horrible horrible horrible story. Simply awful. But why is she so dramatic about his 'at risk of being neutered'? I'd be chomping at the bit to adopt him rather than worry about desexing. He may be a stunning example of the breed so I get that his lines might be valuable to keep. It's just confusing to me. -
Vet time it's probably a tummy bug. Easily fixed with a prescription. Don't leave it too long though, it's easy to get dehydrated which makes them feel worse. The chicken&rice thing can help an upset tummy but not clear up bugs (as you have discovered). You can take a poo sample for testing as well just in case. Worms aren't always visible but vets often give you a Drontal Allwormer for when things have settled. And keep him away from the park while unwell.

@Rebanne true, I can't force people to stay in contact but it's nice isn't it. I love to see how they're going.

An extra question. Can ankc papers be held back if this breeder doesn't get what they want?

Anne is right about contracts. They are more like an agreement than an enforceable legal document. While we're here there's a thread where the poster needs reassurance that they signed a contract with some rather strong demands. -
I haven't heard of them pesh what are they?

if you don't want to sign a desexing contract then don't. It's hardly news or something to get your angry pants on about. -
Was the contract drawn up by a lawyer? Most aren't. They are written, unenforceable agreements between two parties. Is the puppy microchipped in your name yet? That would be my only concern, not that she can come and take the pup anyway. As a buyer, in most states there's a time limit for the seller to get it done. No idea about ANKC papers being held back? She should have done the home check before parting with the puppy if it was that concerning. Odd. Not sure about Qld but property laws often cover dogs .... if she sold you a car she couldn't expect to come visit it.

This is a 4yr old thread so the original poster may not be on Dol anymore. :) You could begin your own thread.

9yrs is time for a top-to-toe health check. You need to rule out pain, discomfort or illness. Like from bad teeth, UTI, ear infection, the beginning of arthritis - all sorts of things that dogs can't communicate to us except behaviourally. I need my sleep so have doggy stairs up to my bed.

I think if you join the ANKC as an Associate Member you can participate in the events? https://www.dogsnsw.org.au/events/herding/herding-faq/

Zain if you're overseas ? the brands might not be the same. Have you had it confirmed? If you suspect coccidia in all your dogs it's best to take a poo sample and one of the dogs to the vet for a simple test or two (if one dog has it they all need to be treated). There's a few things that cause gastrointestinal upsets so finding out which bug it is will get you the right advice. If you take an internet guess you might just be wasting your money and prolonging the problem. Food sounds fine and while you can have a dog it doesn't agree with, to have all of them passing runny poo it's probably not diet in my humble opinion.

I'm not up for an argument again so don't shoot the messenger. Just going to leave this here. Make of it what you will. Pounds and rescues are in crisis whatever people believe the cause is. Even the breeders of the pups and kittens featured are opting out. https://www.facebook.com/mscanimalshelter/photos/a.529871863690647/5797472866930494 I'm not responsible for the comments.

Sadly true. How do you find them if your dog needs to bounce back? Or do you try to sell them yourself to make back some of the extortionate price. No offence to anyone who has made the transition but I doubt a decent % become registered, there's no point with alternative registries that accept everybody regardless of breed and also bring perceived legitimacy with membership. I do know (from answering questions for people looking for pups) that people can think a breeding/selling permit number means registered. And that microchip forms mean papered. And that a vet check means a health guarantee. During the unprecedented Covid rush to get pups, going by the booming market in BYB, people weren't waiting for a registered breeder with a planned litter. Took too long and not enough pups to keep up with demand.

Such cuteness! Congratulations

Recommendations for dog transport (Coastal QLD to Coastal NSW)
_PL_ replied to I-Sighthound's topic in General Dog Discussion
We don't do it often but after trying a few of the new transporters for short runs of fosters, I'm back to good old Dogmovers. They are clean and reliable and have a wider network. I don't mean to send you off Dol but there is one transport group on FB for people to find services. Just one warning in your search, don't use a service that mixes pound dogs in. -
European Doberman Puppies: Looking for reputable breeders?
_PL_ replied to Dobe11's topic in General Dog Discussion
It does read oddly. I thought it was a rescue but I can't find where the source number is registered to. ETA the chip doesn't show up on Pet Address either. -
@WanaHavanese I understand how traumatic it is to see your dog in pain. Pointy girl was a dear lady, so soft and sweet but she'd go really hard at things without thinking. She used to use her dew claws often. Like leverage/extra grip when climbing rocks, holding bones and wiping her face after said bone. Also when trying to grab your arm for a pat. So they are quite useful for those kinds of things. So sorry you felt crap. Even the nicest people don't always have their thinking cap on.
