M I S S I N G Foster Dog - Heeler - Eddie 0429589168
_PL_ replied to _PL_'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry Anne, I missed this. Yep, that was the plan re his home address. He's only ever lived at one place so if he's chipped he can be flagged as missing at least. We're trying to find people nearby pounds and the RSPCA who can take his photo in and regularly check rather than rely on the fact that he might have a chip. With no sightings so far I'm very worried that he has taken off into rural areas or bushland. Apparently (not my area so I'm only repeating a possibility) there is a population of feral dogs out that way and another possibility of 1080 baits. If we can get posters into some stockfeed places that might help? & Does anyone know if they have auction yards out that way? His carer is going to get him announced on local radio and I believe has done flyer drops, pound trips and even drove to Taree looking for him on the way. -

Thank you everyone. There's been absolutely no sightings at all. The DRN carer and Eddie's family members are in contact now and he just needs as many eyes looking for him as possible. -

To my knowledge he hadn't been scanned yet Maree. He was a stat-dec next-of-kin surrender with the chip status to be finalised. The whole house is being packed and his records haven't been found. His vet didn't record a chip. His family are going to council to see if he shows up on the CAR linked to his home address. If he shows up at least that is a lead on the number. The other worry is that he may have gone into bushland. -

Thanks BC. :) He really is lovely. I'd approach him slowly, he'd be very wary and easily spooked. He'd be about 9? So he's spent all that time looking after his owner, her memory is pretty bad but she still asks about Eddie and has a dog teddy in her room called Eddie. -
Eddie Hotline 0429589168 Eddie Email [email protected] Eddie's Facebook Page above text apparently circulating on FB. SSR also have contacts waiting to hear if there has been a sighting of Eddie. You can email me: [email protected] An e-news has been sent out also. He was an old lady's guardian and had to be surrendered when she went into a nursing home. I've met Eddie, he is a lovely boy but will be completely out of his depth and scared, and hungry. Eddie was a farm dog, he's never had to deal with urban dangers so please watch the roads. As a brand new surrender .. and next of kin still digging for his paperwork... he was due to go for a microchip scan etc but escaped. He may or may not be chipped. Please, whatever you can do and wherever you can post this please help Eddie come home. If you are near a local pound please visit daily with his photo. We need: People to check their local pound - one volunteer covering Rutherford already - Ask their rangers Put posters in stockfeed supply places in case Eddie has gone bush Drop his photo and contacts in to their local vet Post his details on local notice boards, FB lost dog sites and the buy-swap-sell Contact local small private rescues who may be asked to take him in Please emphasise that he is lost and wanted dog, he may be assumed to be a 9yr old dumping or unchipped stray (assuming he has no chip). All contact to Dog Rescue Newcastle or alternatively SSR ***edited to add: possible sightings at Nabiac and Buladelah! *** edited to add 29/8 possible sighting at Muswellbrook thank you in advance

Hi julz! :) I drafted my post, wandered off and came back then posted it. Lol. Sorry to double up. Good to see you though.

:) OK, this might help or it might be more confusing. *They can't be vetworked until after impound time is over, owners always have the first choice of reclaiming. ---However you can go in at any stage, meet and place your name as first to buy if unclaimed. (I can't remember the deposit system). *Dogs deemed rescue/reclaim only: cannot be purchased by the public. *Unless reclaim/rescue only: the public is not affected by the dog having rescue and may still purchase ahead of rescue. ---Purchase isn't processed immediately unless the dog is a surrender or past the 7-14 days waiting time. You can collect the dog from their vet when they are cleared to leave, it's just up the rd. All paperwork is processed at the pound but the distance between the two is negligible. Discuss that with staff. They are very helpful. Cats: as above Renbury Shelter List might be able to pop in later but that's the basics. Are you planning on a visit? :D oops, Sorry Julz. Your version is much clearer.

thank you Costanza. Laughed so hard I nearly fell off my soapbox.

It's one sentence (rightly) urging people to lock their dogs up at night because they are killing Koalas. Every other sentence contains attack, mauled, shredded etc and then draws the reader into a completely different topic. It's written in such a way that koala attacks merge into the human attacks topic. And somehow legislation re 'menacing dogs' will help the koala how? Muzzle dogs in their own backyard? IMHO if they are serious about trying to help the koalas it could have been written a lot better and not have people stressing out that the dog over the fence is going to attack something/anything. All wildlife in Port has been affected by humans and their pets and it's getting worse as the population expands. Even the Koala Hospital seems closer to town than it used to be. It just seems like a waste of an article. For example: keep your dogs and cats in at night would have been handy, watch the roads, don't let your livestock trample the bush, plant trees. Fund the hospital. And quit letting the council approve development of enormous chunks of vital land and reclaiming wetlands right in the middle of native habitat. from the website "We need urgent support to enable us to purchase a site in Port Macquarie currently proposed for development".

Roaming dogs (and cats) should be dealt with before they get a chance to be killed themselves. Cars make a big dent in the population there too sadly and the paper has missed the chance of reminding people to stop speeding through the corridor areas at night. 'Muzzle a Mutt Campaign'!! The whole article a sloppy attempt at self promotion, it's not about helping the koalas at all.
-
That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Nothing is black and white, all outcomes have to be viewed with a sensible eye, and having the police finally giving a crap about missing dogs is a nice change. btw I'm old enough to remember that whenever a cat or fluffy dog went missing, they weren't running off or being stolen... it was most absolutely definitely because they were being turned into fashion furs or takeaway food. Urban myths tend to snowball until people move on to the next one.

Were the trespassers charged as well?

THat's very kind of you Julie, thank you. :)

I think it was just a tangent cryptic. :) I should have said they aren't connected in my post re Starfish but didn't want to speak for her and am pretty sure it wasn't meant like that.

You sure it's real? I get bogus notifications from things I don't have an account with. They look genuine but aren't. (oops, that doesn't explain the emails)

Breed Specific Info On Dogs In Sa ?
_PL_ replied to Christina's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Agreed, pound ID is a tricky one. Maybe the breed clubs or breed specific rescues could give you a start, not sure about SA but they're often notified here if someone spots a PB. :) -
Yep there's an Aussie one, small private rescue. You could find the link via Renbury probably, they do rescue from there.
-
They're still using their photo from last year so I'd have to wonder as well. edit, go to the vey last pages of the catalogue for sponsors, supporters and judges.
-
Just googled the book, looks interesting lol I really think the Petcasso idea would be excellent for a rescue to do. Get the supplies donated and charge a small donation. Would be very popular ;) It would be hilarious too. And give people a little keepsake, even if they just wanted little pawprints to keep.
-
Probably for the best. It can work with practice and planning, foster carers do it all the time. But honestly, I'd just find a housemate without a dog. It has the potential for causing lots of friction and if the dogs bicker they will be incredibly stressed.

Petcasso sounds awesome! Have you seen the book 'Why cats paint'? Some pets are very creative.

Can Electric Pulse Collars Be Used Humanely
_PL_ replied to snake catcher's topic in General Dog Discussion
Same. Someone behind the wheel needs to know what they're doing and a service like that could save some lives. This is all theory on my part anyway. I don't even own a check chain. They are the simplest thing to use yet I still see dogs choking and gagging. No wonder people worry about e-collars.
