  1. Some individuals tether their entire identity and self worth to the attention rescue on social media can generate. It's very sad when the person comes first and the animals are a means to an end. Not a comment on Rosie. I sincerely hope she and her rescuer are under the best care and guidance for such a unique animal.
  2. Well, Troy is happy to pin a thread. I have a question about parvicides. What ones will not ruin the interior of the family car? F10 hasn't bleached or eaten it's way through anything of ours yet but what other brands would you suggest for the transport kit? Must be available in reasonable sizes. F10 or..... and Rubber gloves Garbage bags Newspapers or throwaway towels Liners for car. A sheet or tarp or dog seat cover.
  3. Alrighty, would it help if i sat down at some stage and wrote up basics for a pinned thread? I've asked Troy if it's do-able. Disease overview and early warnings Disinfection and handling - recommended basic 'kit' for transporters Paperwork and how not to lose it  Emergencies and contact numbers of a co-ordinator who knows what's happening! Holding pound animals overnight --- Home visit checklist for volunteers (I can't find the old one on here) --- Input ladies? :) I won't bother if there's no point.
  4. If that's a bald pink chihuahua that looks like one of those hairless mice, she was taken from hoarders who had them stashed everywhere (incl in the roof) all the dogs were generations of indiscriminate inbreeding. Many were PTS for incredible deformities. She was one they showed seeing the vet multiple times and apparently being given the green light. So she is/was far from being untreated for whatever is wrong with her. But honestly, seeing people trot these animals out on FB to get their fix of adulation makes me feel physically ill. "ooh you are truly an angel" "nobody would do what you have done" "bless your heart" yadda yadda Gimmie a break. Even worse when they peddle the terrified partially immobile things out in public for people to paw.
  5. Depends on the pound, in Sydney we've got a few who take impound pics the way they come in then volunteers or staff groom them to make them more comfortable. Unfortunately some matted dogs are in pain and will snap so I recommend anyone use caution when trying to handle a scared matted dog. Pls also alert the rangers that there is a wandering dog, it's at risk of being seriously hurt even if it does actually live in one of the nearby houses.
  6. It's very very hard to have a standard protocol when you have to get several transport legs happening. Crates, are great but don't always follow the dogs for the whole trip. A pinned post for transport volunteers detailing disinfection and handling would be helpful. Years ago pups were sent all over the place, flying. But as the parvo cases popped up, the offers of help disappeared. Really the only way is temp care quarantine before moving anyone. And that just hasn't ever been possible in all situations. I have refused interstate poundies much to the confusion of people asking me to help. And I had to bite my tongue and not take a gorgeous silky x pup from a rural (I personally consider high risk esp with pups) because the only way to get her was straight onto a plane. So she got rescue anyway, went into the baggage hold with other people's pets, flew to QLD and went straight to the vet with parvo the next day. There has to be some common sense exercised to avoid some of these situations.
  7. Tamworth charge $19 per day (plus fees) to be paid if you've got a stray you need to reclaim. 7 x 19 = 130 It's an attempt to recoup the boarding fee? Do they hold the dog for 7 days instead of PTS immediately?
  8. Death Row Pets or Shel at Pet Rescue may have some. DRP published some a year or two ago and if they have stats to hand it will save you gathering the raw data. Statistics will vary depending on if they're counting just rehomeable animals or ALL animals.
  9. Just to clarify, was this meant to maybe be a breeding pair? If you keep her in the family/friends is it still an option?
  10. I haven't read all the comments but why a second one when you're still training the first? Does the girl have papers (BSL wise is all I'm thinking). eta: desex her if you're going to sell her.
  11. Lying and bashing and sympathy trips gets more comments and more 'likes'. So more things show up in people's newsfeeds and bring more of the same. And if the sole reason you spam your own page with crap is to get attention and validation you've got a genuine problem. Delete what you like. But the rescue world is small, and people know when your pants are on fire.
  12. god yes, love the mystery skin problems. Fingers crossed you get to the bottom of that one. VetnPet Direct had a special on Essential6 (for dog skin issues), not sure if it's still discounted. If you've never tried it, it smells niiiice. :)
  13. I'd be giving that emergency vet the flick. Far out. First thing my vet checked Lucky for was heart and lung involvement (none found), so he was ahead of Chester right there. I think he's a tough old chook though, with the right diagnosis he's really got a fighting chance. :) eta OMG Donatella too much cuteness.
  14. Me too! Would have taken a lot of the guesswork out. But I'm very happy there's a diagnosis. :)
  15. Any news Kavik? How's she going?
  16. Nothing that interesting but I got all excited that my ProKolin+ and Essential 6 orders arrived. Sad huh LOL.
  17. But people do make money doing it half arsed. To paraphrase one recent BYB who did nothing but keep her dogs pregnant and in runs with some food thrown at them....'I can make $3000 a go, they love to breed, it's what they were born to do, my dogs are happy'
  18. No problem YG. You are too kind. Chester looks like a mini Lucky. I'll be willing him to get better for you. :)
  19. :cheer: Yay Andrea!!! Congrats lovely lady. Welcome to the world Tyrone.
  20. Just out of Renbury. Sick and bald. Feeling much betters. :)
  21. Thank you so much for posting Powerlegs. I know how much you would have gone through to get your boy healthy. If Chester does have a similar issue, I feel a bit more positive about getting him better. I'll ask the vet about a nebuliser - did you use one for your boy or was it just a matter of manually keeping him upright and breathing? At the time, all I had were pretty much what you've got vet, meds, nebuliser edit sorry I meant vaporiser, 4litres of cola to keep me awake and a manual restart whenever he needed it. I even set up a little tented area like you have! :) The vaporiser faced directly at him during the worst part, it seemed to help him a tiny bit more. Since then the rescue owns a nebuliser and it's worth it. With most of your rescues being quite tiny and elderly compromised animals I'd look into it. :) Baytril can be nebulised too afaik.
  22. Not saying it's the same thing but....Sounds so similar to a terribly bald and sad japanese spitz boy I rescued once. It was a 36hr shift to get him through the very worst of it. Vaporiser, shots, antibiotics from his vet should have worked (he had everyone shaking their heads) but sometimes there's the odd dog who is very susceptible and very immune suppressed. So under vet advice, meds and in conjunction with me being there to stand him up and revive him when he stopped breathing (passed out, eyes roll back, wet himself), it took a lot of noooo-sleep but he turned a corner, got better, grew all his hair back and ended up being adopted. Worst upper respiratory tract infection I've ever ever seen. Also the most awesome boy who really stole my heart, we fought so hard together and he didn't even look back over his shoulder as he trotted off to a new home. You might look into buying a nebuliser, for the tiniest dogs it's the best way of delivering medication for respiratory disease. Omron brand if you google it.
  23. Personally I hear exactly what the OP is saying. *flame suit* The amount of absolute lies spun for the sake of getting a reaction is amazing. Not just rescue BTW but getting a couple of dogs and starting a FB page does not make you a rescue. BYB's masquerading as rescue. Collectors handing out unvetworked "rescued" animals (at least they're not dead right?). Making up tall stories to get donations and have people call you an angel... knowing the whole time you'll PTS. Bashing former owners, bashing reg breeders, pulling out fanciful unverified stories of abuse, bait dogs or puppy farms to get people in a blind tizzy. The whole Moorook scandal.... omg seriously deranged people being used to make it impossible for volunteers to continue in safety. The poor woman whom they believed reported Moorook had all her details published for every nutter to see! Is that creating awareness of animal welfare or is it creating a culture of viral hysteria? Ruralpug, yes you have a very very good point too. So many lost pets have been reunited and many pound animals have found safety. Good rescues run absolutely fantastic pages and hats off the the people who run pound pages virtually 24/7! Signed: Long done with FB and living in a happy bubble. :)
  24. Faaar out. Yep, take them down and have another group list them. Different photos, new names, post on FB that they've been adopted or moved interstate to keep them safe.
