Urgent Appeal For Nursing Mother For Newborn Pups

I'm so sorry for everyone who tried to help. RIP little babies. -
That's the stupid part. The article is so damaging but so flimsy, it says absolutely nothing about the extent of the injuries, the post op treatment or who was the animal's surgeon. Then it presumes to say the cat was overdosed where I can't see one sentence where anyone investigated to prove the cause of death.

New Uk Laws Prosecting Dog Owners If They Scare Children
_PL_ replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
seriously? -
Or it could just be an old or 'close enough' photo the newspaper put there because they didn't have one. :)

If that's an actual photo of the rabbit.... it would be next to impossible to hold on to a live wild rabbit while you hang it by the tips of it's ears and expect it to stay there like that. I just can't see how that would work.

It's a bit of a gappy story. Not enough information. It doesn't explain who actually did the surgery and why a post-op mauled cat wasn't already on painkillers. No mention of antibiotics either, infection or sepsis can kill a cat the same way - IMHO a necropsy should have been done before calling the press. RIP kitty.
-
If the cat was post-op shouldn't the owner have been given prescribed pain relief to take home anyway?? This is very confusing. I thought that vet had retired. She's been there forever.

Right, so from those posts he won't be 'official' but he isn't going to stop going on about it. -

A Cautionary Tale About People Getting Things Very Wrong
_PL_ replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in General Dog Discussion
If someone makes false and inflammatory claims, such as that 'there is a major problem with bull breeds in this country', then someone else is going to pull up the information that shows that their claim is incorrect. Simple as that. There is no dog bite epidemic (ALL dogs included) and the likelihood of being bitten by a dog is incredibly low, for ALL breeds. No one said all bull breeds are angels and are never at fault so I don't know where you're getting that from. The point was simply made that the overwhelming majority of ALL DOGS are not involved in any sort of incident at all, and that Bull Breeds are just dogs, like all the others. Yes, they're strong and a med-large size so there is an extra level of responsibility there than say, a poodle, but there is a list as long as my arm of breeds that would go into that same category. They aren't some magical beast that are unlike other dogs, resulting in there being a 'major problem' with them. To see 'dog people' perpetuating the myth of dog bite epidemics and that there is a 'dog problem' in this country is quite sad. 'Trotting out the stats' actually has people reconsider what they may inherently believe as true. False and inflammatory in your opinion, possibly many many others. And proven or disproven with incomplete statistical data. Data which in the long run doesn't matter either way because if it did, breed specific laws would have ended with the greyhound. You may think I'm arguing with you, I'm not. I'm talking about free discussion being inhibited because of the way these threads deteriorate and members being singled out for using the wrong word or having a contrasting opinion than the ones people prefer to hear. Your opinion is listened to, it's polite to acknowledge others'. Shouting people down doesn't change their minds. -
I don't disagree with the decision and it's probably the only one left but doing it on your own sucks.
-
Just me: I'd get a professional to advise in person. Even a heart-to-heart with his regular vet. Dol is good but is limited to online. I say this because the decision to PTS a dog you've had for 10yrs will affect you deeply and is not something easily done on your own.

Attention All Breeders Involved In The Rescue Scene
_PL_ replied to Loreley's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Could very well be based in fact but it's very thin on useful information that you ought to be contacting the media or government about. I get that new laws never work like they should and there is a lot of angst in NSW about the bizarre proposals here. However I thought the number of allowable dogs was actually the current law in VIC under councils that choose to impose by-laws or development approvals? Is this being revised at state level? -
Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
_PL_ replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Blast. So either people have gone nicely quiet and got on with things or there's even less people are allowed in so that info can't get out. I guess both options would be sensible with charges pending I just hope the animals in there still get the extra assistance that all the attention generated. -

Sorry to interrupt but does anyone know what's happening at the shelter three months on? Are volunteers still going in and is there a significant reduction in numbers? -
A Cautionary Tale About People Getting Things Very Wrong
_PL_ replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in General Dog Discussion
Personally I'm getting really fed up with every single thread that mentions 'bull breed' turns into a freaking circus. There's never a discussion. It's all How Very Dare You and trot out the stats. Hands off our dogs they are angels. Maybe you should collectively try to decide what point you're trying to get across. If someone says they've had a problem with a 'staffy' ...oh it's the owner's fault, oh it's the breeder's fault, oh it's the victim's, oh it's the council's fault or they're just told they have a bad attitude and it could just have easily been a maltese involved. It's nice to see the dogs defended when they can't speak for themselves but seriously these threads do you NO favours and just make people not bother to comment because they get brow beaten. It doesn't matter one iota if the stats tell you everyone is wrong. Public opinion doesn't work that way. And average member of the public reading these threads are just 20 minutes poorer and no more enlightened. It's getting old and boring and not getting any bull breed one step further. I'd much rather read positive steps like the ones Wobbly has taken than see one more member crucified for putting a particular word into their post. -

Correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK, 'Bull breeds' are still just terriers. Big terriers. A larger version of strong, game, scrappy, headstrong little clowns that some call anklebiters or dish mops LOL. .....truly some of the most disastrous outcomes for any dog stems from owners who don't research their breeds and honestly look at themselves and what they have to offer a dog. I feel sorry for the pair of Amstaffs in the original post being set up to fail. After being shut in that yard, fighting with each other and receiving no stimulation or training it's not surprising they ended up basket cases.
