  1. Snuffle mats and IQ puzzles basic stuff but so fun.
  2. Definitely sense of humour OMG. So funny. I'm absolutely sure I'm not imagining things. And a great way of saying they are p*ssed off with you. Silkies do the 'cold shoulder'. Are other breeds here great at shunning? They all definitely communicate with us.
  3. My orphan pups need to be encouraged to chew. So I was online shopping. https://www.budgetpetproducts.com.au/search/java+wood And they are from coffee trees which I though was toxic to dogs (unless it's just the beans and such). So I didn't buy them anyway.
  4. There are legal codes in all states for boarding facilities and the relevant contact for you is the Dept of Environment and Water SA. (DEW) I'm very sorry for your experience and best wishes for some progress.

  6. Hi again Zookoo! Agreeing with Perse, the spine is so complex, with any number of potential issues far beyond what you can find on the internet without a diagnosis first. Dr Google will often scare the pants off people! Once you have your vet advice I'd really love to know what they say.
  7. @Enrique May I ask, why was she declared dangerous in the first place?
  8. Not saying this lightly but I completely agree. She's a time bomb.
  9. Why on earth were those dear little dogs in a 'boot camp'?
  10. Poor Freya but there's sooo many Rotties in pounds at the the moment. In NSW Declared Dangerous are illegal to rehome, what happens in Qld? Incredible that they have asked you to organise her euthanasia! No offence but I can't see your qualifications on your website. It would give people confidence in your rehab of Freya if you published them.
  11. Meaning there is no information attached to the chip number. Aka blank.
  12. Some people are also chippers (or know chippers) who just put a blank chip in. That's not a legit way of doing things. But there's just not enough manpower to cover the laws. Correct that chips can be claimed by the person with physical custody. But the original owner must have their name on the chip and mark it as missing/stolen then the transfer can't go through. That's where M1 and P1A forms come in for blank chips. M1 to have your vet confirm there is a chip. P1A to get your ownership onto the register. If there's a problem with the above, call the local council pound rather than the council front desk for up to date legislation. M1 https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Verification-of-Existing-Microchip-M1-Form.pdf P1A https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Permanent-identification-P1A-Form.pdf edited to clarify. I refer to 'blank' as having no information attached to the chip number.
  13. Have you had her scanned to make sure she's actually on the register? She may have a blank chip in which case you need an M1 form to get her into your name in NSW. Edited to add, a P1A as well.
  14. surrender emails. every. single. day. I try to help with finding rescues or providing information but can't keep up.
  15. Sorry but what does it mean for a bill to have lapsed? I'm not all that good with political terms.
  16. Seriously! I'm so sorry LMO, sometimes people just don't think.
  17. You'd be better off cutting through all the weird agreements and purchasing a dog you can actually own with no strings attached.
  18. Big weight bearing bones have white marrow which is the bad stuff. Especially bad when butchers cut them up the middle to give dogs easy access to the marrow. If you like to give bones, select ones with that red honeycomb looking marrow but not ones that are going to splinter. Depends on what's available and the size & strength of the dog so you have to select carefully. Or the chicken feet mentioned. They are kind of creepy looking LOL but low fat and the collagen contained is a very healthy bonus.
  19. Half the pound dogs aren't even chipped, only those who stick their neck out by being in any way registered will suffer. Even plain BIN holders. So yes, the crushing reg breeders under the burden of laws sadly, not affecting those who aren't even following basic requirements.
  20. I don't know why the breeders aren't using Dol. It's a shame because you did learn things that will otherwise be lost knowledge. But I hear Dol referred to as 'bitchy' which doesn't encourage membership. Rescuers have largely abandoned too, using FB instead. And it was a great resource too. I've thought about leaving. Anti rescue sentiment has stung a few times with unwarranted criticism. And is often confused with militant animal rights movements as opposed to animal welfare. Maybe breeders are feeling the same way. I see some harsh criticism and designer breed promo that used to be disallowed and was sorted out asap. I wouldn't use a purebreed forum where the members it was built for have felt vulnerable and alienated.
  21. I've done 4 enucleation over time. All seniors. No prostheses. With fluffies the hair grows in and you just see a winky dog. With short hair dogs you do see a sunken socket. None needed a special anaesthetist so I can't help you there but if the specialist recommends it, it must be very important because of their squishy faces. The difference it made for each dog was amazing! (Having had a tiny scratch on my cornea I can't believe how stoic dogs are with much worse).
  22. No help, but well done for chasing leads. There should be more service dog trainers. Not sure if it's going to be relevant but 'Molly Polly Assistance Dog' via FB has two Silkies trained as diabetic service dogs (ACT) and may be able to point you in the right direction, for a beginning at least. They were a little ahead of their time so had to search really hard to find trainer assistance.
  23. I was also wondering if it was the oatmeal, being a grain that some dogs can't eat and can respond to poorly if used in shampoo.
