  1. I had a litter last summer and we had a run of 40 degree days. The pups were pup outside at about 6am and left out there until about 9 or 10am when they were brought inside until about 8pm. We braved the heat with an outside toilet run every hour or 2. Within a couple of days they would go immediately when out side and run to get back in and escape the heat. They were about 4 or 5 weeks at this stage. Granted there were only 2 of them but more would not have changed what I did as they all followed me when I went out like I was the pied piper anyway. Once the sun went down they stayed outside until we went to bed at which point they were put back in "their" room. During the day they had the tiled living areas of the house.
  2. I have had 1 of these for several years with no problems and know a few other people that have them as well. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/XXXL-Large-Portable-Soft-Pet-Dog-Crate-Cage-Tent-Kennel-Travel-Folding-Blue-/261060709384?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item3cc86e4c08&_uhb=1
  3. My gosh he is getting so big. Where did you take him for his swim? Looks like a nice spot.
  4. A clam shell and 1 of the big terracotta bowls from here: https://www.facebook.com/studiosebastianpetdinnerware
  5. LOVE the side profile of the eagle and the gorilla head shot. Amazing!!
  6. Hi Pesh, No problem at all. First 1 was on aperture priority with the following settings: f22, 1/250, ISO400, 70mm The ferris wheel at night was f3.5, 1/30 (resting on a table to stay steady), ISO800, 18mm They both were played with a little in Lightroom - just played with vibrancy, contrast, saturation sliders until the colours had a pop and looked "right" The first 1 I think I played with shadows and highlights as well mainly to get some more contrast in the clouds.
  7. I have 2 puppy buyers that live in that area. They each use 1 of the Stirling clinics and both rave about them. 1 of the owners has used both and prefers the Avenue clinic to the Adelaide Hills 1. The other family have only ever gone to the other 1 and been happy with it. From what I have heard, I think that the Avenue Road clinic would be my first choice, but that is purely based on anecdotal comments from puppy buyers.
  8. Thanks. It was fun doing something so different :) I had some "better" fireworks pics but we were near a pillar on the grand stand and that was cutting though most of them The majority were taken totally blind. I had the camera on all manual settings, shutter set to bulb and pointed it in the general direction and braced it against my body and held the shutter button down for varying lengths of time. I had no idea until yesterday if I had anything that was any good, lol. Majority of the pics I used the 70-200. Just before the fireworks I swapped to my walkaround 18-250mm lens. The fireworks were mostly at about 18 - 30mm. And then due to crowds of people and not wanting to risk being knocked and damaging lens or camera while changing lenses, I left that lens on for our walk through the rides/side show area. And just as well I did or I never would have got the Ferris Wheel picture. In terms of editing, they all just had a quick edit in Lightroom - upped the contrast and saturation and cropped them mostly.
  9. I took my camera with me yesterday and had such a great time doing different types of photos. I really enjoyed playing with full manual controls and night photos. I tried things I had never tried before and was quite happy with the results. This was the first photo I took for the day and I love it - it just looks and feels like the show. This 1 was handheld, all manual settings and playing with the bulb function for my shutter. The rest of my photos from the day can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8799389@N04/
  10. I only know of one who has done well post chemo for lymphoma. The dog would have been only around 2 and would be probably 5 years post treatment now. The others I know of are like Dancinbcs said and a year or not much more. I know of 1 that did not make it as long with chemo as another did with just cortisone. My thoughts are with your brother. It is a shitty disease. I have lost 2 dogs to the horrid thing
  11. I have an OKS and love it. They will customise as well. Only thing I would do different if ordering again would be to get them to add a horizontal bar so I can hang a water bucket and also to reinforce. I didn't realise that they would do that when I ordered. And althought I have not had any problems with mine, a friend has the bars across and it feels much sturdier with them.
  12. Thanks Cassie!! I have been checking Facebook for updates but not seen any so came in here hoping someone would have some results :)
  13. Wash before use yes. I never had a fluff problem though. As for hoping there is lots of sun - 1 of the great things with vetbed is how quickly it dries. Even with my winter litter I was not having a problem getting it dry.
  14. Looks ok. Have a look for reviews and see what they say. I don't know that lens specifically. When I am looking for anything I spend ages looking at reviews on different sites also for photos taken with the same lens that you are looking at.
  15. You might find the walk around Sony 18-250 lens meets your needs. I think it is about that price range. The other good, fast, longer zooms that I can think of would all be quite a bit more expensive.
  16. I know someone with the Sigma 150 - 500 that they use for birds. Apparently hunts a bit in poor light but some of the shots I have seen are great.
  17. I have a Sony a580 and recently got myself the Sigma 70-200 f2.8. So much nicer than what I had. The 50mm 1.8 is a cheap, fast little lens. Not a zoom though so depending on the distance away for action not always great but nice for portraits and indoor photos. I also have the Sony 18-250 which is quite a nice versatile, all in 1, walk around lens. Not super fast but I have had plenty of nice dog show and herding photos with it provided light was good.
  18. I feed a mix of raw and dry (different meals - a couple of days of 1 then a day or 2 of the other kind of non scientific type of thing). I also like my dogs to stay lean and grow slower so I have them on adult food from about 3 or 4 months. When feeding raw there is difference in what you feed, only the quantities anyway. Having said that plenty of people use puppy food for much longer and have no hassles. Ask your breeder what they suggest. When you say "stocky" - can you feel his rubs when you gently run your hand over him? If there is a fair bit of covering over them and they are difficult to feel then I would cut the quantity of food back regardless of what the food is.
  19. Yes, I did it with both litters. Did it help - no idea as i have nothing to compare it to. I put it in the category of probably can't do any harm and possibly can do some good. They do warn not to over do it though so I was careful of that. Like Espinay said though, I did a lot of other things as well so who knows what helped and what made no difference.
  20. I hadn't followed all of the thread but am so so sorry for your loss. You can run pain free now beautiful boy.
  21. LOL. I know what you mean. My 70-200 f2.8 has not been off my camera since I got it. For the giraffe safari pics though I needed something shorter as they would be so close to us. OMG, it felt like a toy or a little point and shoot. The balance felt all wrong.
  22. Thanks :) I love going out to Monarto but get frustrated with trying to get pics through tinted bus windows smeared by kids. Or bus drivers that start moving when I have finished taking pics!! At least these days there are quite a few bus stops where you can get off and look around - the giraffes (which we didn't as we did the off exhibit safari experience), rhino, cheetahs and lions and painted dogs. It is pot luck at the viewing platforms though. We could see the lions way off in the distance pacing - mum with her cubs but 5 minutes later when we went on the bus into the exhibit they were in the shade having a sleep The chimps are just a short walk from the visitor centre and have a huge outdoor area as well as access to indoors. Unfortunately the baby did not want to come outside while we were there. Monarto is out the "back" of the Adelaide Hills in a rain shadow area - only 300mm per year and is apparently very much like an african savannah so they are concentrating on African species out there.
  23. The giraffe experience is amazing. Monarto is massive, the "off exhibit" area that they are in is easily 20 acres, probably more as I could not see the fence of the second paddock they could access. For $40 you go with a guide to the off exhibit area where there are 8 bull giraffes and get given a bucket of carrots and instruction on how to feed them. They take a max of 10 people and there were only 3 of us that went :) It was a worrying start as it is up to the animals if they choose to participate or not. The first view we had was this: The keeper then headed out in the ute to try and entice them back but warned us she did not hold out much hope as 2 of the boys were taking issue with each other and the others were at the back of the area and would not come past them. She got this guy half way back to us before he decided to return to stalking the other boy. She then went down another track and managed to entice a couple of the other boys up and through a different gate so they didn't have to pass the others. Initially only the 1 boy came to the feeding area, then a second. 2 more joined us just as the bucket was emptied. They are so gentle, their lips are like velvet against your hand and their heads are HUGE when they lean right down to you. The way they use their tongues to wrap them around the carrots is incredible. All up we were out there well over half an hour. It was a beautiful day and just watching the mixed herd of zebra, eland, ostrich and giraffe ambling around happily amongst each other was fantastic.
  24. Gorgeous day yesterday but a little too warm so most of the animals were snoozing. I didn't have a huge amount of luck, we got lots of butts turned towards us. We did do the Giraffe Safari experience though. This is th view when a giraffe reaches down to take food from you. I was stoked with this pic as I kind of just had to point and click and hope I got it. The rest of the photos are here: http://www.flickr.co...ith/9650611405/
  25. You need to ask them for a commission TSD, lol.
