  5. This thread is making me itchy just reading it. OH found a couple of fleas on our 4 dogs last night now he wants them treated with MALAWARE or something like that. They do get frontline once a month but guesing the fleas are immune to that now as we have used it ever since it came on the market. Have told him him I wanted to change treatment. The Permoxin spray sounds very effective but I have a couple of questions: 1 Is it ok to use on a pregnant bitch & then the young pups when born? No where does it mention pregnant bitches, just not near cats (which we do not have). 2 Our dogs play rough with each other and grab each others coats/fur along their necks will this harm them? 3 HOw much would you spray onto a 7kg dog? Until coat is wet or you can just feel a wet coat/skin. Thanks BB
  6. As many folks have said it s all trial & error to see what works best for your dog. Since we got our first dog we have always used SUPERCOAT puppy or Adult Chicken flavoured. No problems here. We won a couple of bags of Great Barko (uncle Albers) and our dogs wouldn't go near it. They aren't very keen on the Canidea either. BB
  7. Thanks BB, She's already done that with the lovely singleton bitch she gave me last November. She had a free return so I thought I'd give her another go before she got back into full coat. It's just a relief to know she can produce more than the one pup. If I didn't try again I'd always be wondering. Fingers and paws crossed for your girl. :) Good luck on your litter. Hoping for a colored pup but doubtful as the gene isn't strong on her side or the stud dogs side. Would love a colored one though. BB
  8. LizT, Yes am aware of mixed color litters in Schipps. Keep hoping our girl will produce one BUT she hasn't. Doubt color is in her genes. This time around probably all blacks. Don't have much hope for color. BB
  9. Thanks for that LizT, we use white nail polish in various places if more than one in each gender. BB
  10. Hi KelpieHound Mum, I have sent you a PM with more information. If you can help me that would be great. BB

  13. Morsha, I then apologize for getting it wrong. BB
  14. We'll be on the cautious side and say "possible pregnancy" with pups due at end of May but she could whelp 1st June. Schipps is the breed. No ultrasound done yet but her moods indicate pregnancy. LizT, Congrats on the little ones, I hope she gives you what you want. BB

  18. Hi everyone, I have to prepepare a S O P (standard Operational Procedure) and I chose Preparing for a litter. Have I left anything out as it has been a couple of years since our last litter. Thanks for your help. BB Preparing for a Litter of Pups. Purpose: To whelp & raise a healthy litter of pups in a clean environment. Responsibility: To have the mother & pups survive. OHS issues: Box may be too big so the mother may accidently bury a pup under the newspaper. If box, paper or bedding is dirty the mother could get an infection and pass onto the pups and pups may die. You could cut the umbilical cord too short if the mother doesn’t sever it properly. Hot water bottle may be too hot & scold the puppy. If too cold the puppy could die. Equipment & Materials needed: Vacuum or a mop & bucket. Whelping box bedding or clean newspaper. Plastic bags for soiled newspaper. Pen & Paper. Weigh Scales. Laundry basket with clean towel & hot water bottle. Manicure scissors in jar of disinfectant. Telephone & contact details of vet & friends. Clock Thermometer. Radio, television or a book/magazine Procedure: 1. Depending where the whelping box will be positioned you will have to either vacuum or wash the floor. 2. Disinfect the whelping box. Once dry place bedding and or clean newspapers in it. 3. Introduce the expectant mother to the box approximately two weeks prior to whelping. Do not allow other dogs in it as she may reject the box. 4. In a suitable position next to the whelping box place the above equipment. 5. At the same time day & night take the bitch’s temperature and record it. 6. Most bitches’ temperature will drop to 36’C once this occurs keep other dogs away and watch the bitch for contractions. 7. While waiting for contractions you could watch TV, read a book or call your friends/vet that labor has started.
