Agree with all the others! I would get one pup then go back for another 12 or so months later. Hell would have to freeze over before I got two pups together

Tess started a thread where members posted vets in different states who did it. If you do a search you may find it, I believe people listed cost aswell.

I agree with Puggy about holding off on the Malaseb, it's unneccessary and at this stage would probably make him itchier. I would just give him a soothing bath in ALoveen and make sure it is thoroughly rinsed off. With any luck he is itchy simply because the groomer didn't wash out all the product (which happens all too often), or they use a crap shampoo (which also happens alot). Re. the Artemis, my sometimes itchy dog has been doing well on it, but his poos are frequent and sloppy so I think we will switch back to Eagle Pack.

I think the trick is to find a registered breeder via word of mouth. Key word being REPUTABLE. I've had some shocking dealings with reg'd breeders, but just like any 'industry' you have to sort out the good from the bad. Then when you get good, they far outweigh the bad as they offer so much more than even a 'good BYB'er' (there's an oxymoron if I ever saw one ).

You can achieve the same look by using your force dryer to dry 90% of the dog, then use a simple hand held human dryer for the last 10%. Re. the tables, just because the dogs are big they don't necessarily need a big table. I groom lots of big dogs on smaller tables as I find it easier for the dog to take up the whole table area.

I have a 10month old Stafford and I cut her back to one meal last month. She carried on for breakfast for a few days but soon got the hang of it.

From memory grapes definitely are, as they thin the blood or something like that. So one would think 'tanas are too ;) I doubt he would suggest feeding them though if they were!

I've read all of your posts and have come to the conclusion that you really need to find a new vet. Also be aware that vets are not experts in animal behaviour so just take what they say with a grain of salt and if you need behavioural advice seek professional help in that department. Pleased your dog is okay, after having her stomach pumped due to taking one non toxic aspririn

I don't understand what the vet means?? For future reference, the Maltese are not a terrier. You can have a Maltese crossed with a terrier, but if the dog is a pure bred it is simply a Maltese. However.... you don't know that the dog is a pure bred, unless you have pedigree papers.

Do You Use/need Salazapyrin Tablets?
Clyde replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you can't find a donor most vets will buy back unused meds. -
They do tend to lose their edge a bit, some lose a bit of drive. So in that sense these dogs get a little more chilled/lazy and so yes, they will lose muscle tone. However if you keep up the exercise and even up it a bit then you should be able to retain muscle tone. All of my pets have gained weight since being desexed so it's just a matter of adjusting their diets. My Rotti went to flab when done but with a bit of work he is now in even better shape than before!

Anyone done it with this grouo? I was going to go through Northern Districts at St Ives but also don't want to have to do all the obedience stuff first. -
I use this thanks to advice from DOL'ers a few years back and it works beautifully!

:D That's weird. According to Dermcare who actually make Permoxin it is 7 days for fleas and ticks (this is personally from them personally), but as mentioned clinical trials showed 13 days. I'm looking at a bottle right now and it says 7 days. I use it as 13 day coverage in a very heavy tick area and it works well. Although only one day after and ticks will attach. Maybe the Vet Products seller is telling you his own personal opinion and what works for him? I think efficacy of all products vary from pet to pet.

Proban is very effective, but used long term, it does cause liver damage. Jed. This is the 4th time I've queried you saying this so will PM you as you mustn't go back to the threads :D I discussed this at length with my vet, who is also Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Sydney Uni and he said there is no evidence of any damage/side effects from Proban. I was very hesitant to use it initially. Do you have any links to this please?
-
Personally I think that is too long for any dog of any age, however especially a puppy.
-
Trials show Permoxin lasts for 13 days for ticks however they advertise it as lasting for 7. I agree re. the Proban though. It's very good for fleas too. I had a problem with fleas on just one of my cats and tried everything. Proban has been the only successful product although it did take about 2 weeks to take effect.
-
Any vet can readily order them in, and probably would if you said you would go elsewhere. My preferred clinic to use has been using the Nobivac for sometime now. It makes me wonder why other practices aren't keen to make the switch. Less money long term perhaps?

OP has said that her dogs reacted to Advantix. Permoxin and Advantix = same ingredient. As a side note: According to Dermcare Permoxin binds instantly so is safe for cats to be around sprayed/rinsed dogs straight away. Unless the cat is an obsessive licker of the dog it's fine. The cat won't drop dead if it goes near your dog.
-
That will work out verrrrrrry expensive. It doesn't last long, you need a certain amount of pumps per kilo. I would hazard a guess it would end up costing more than the Proban on a tick dosage (every 2nd day). I would find another, more cost effective spray that doesn't contain Permethrin. Perhaps you would be better off with a Pyrethrin.
-
If you thought your dogs reacted badly to Advantix then I wouldn't use Permoxin as it's the same main ingredient. To be honest I think you would be incredibly unlucky to have both dogs react to Advantix and think *maybe* there were other factors at play. Frontline spray is better than the top spot in that it actually works. Although you have to be careful in application as you can't miss a spot as ticks can and will attach in that one small spot you missed (apparently). I use Proban for cats and Advantix for dogs which has worked well for me. Who knows for any of the products really. They're all poisons, so they're all pretty bad - but the alternative is even worse.

You can buy doggy ear dryers.

I would only wash the parts you need to as Malaseb does tend to trash the coat if overused. I always use Malaseb then leave on Pyohex conditioner if they are quite 'fresh'. This clears them up really quickly.
