  1. Hi Andrew and welcome I would contact the breeders listed on the link provided above and ask if you and your wife can go and meet some dogs. I am sure once your wife actually meets a true Mastiff cost and size will be a non issue :D There is a Mastiff thread in Breed Sub Forums with some great photos of puppies, but it's not very active as they are quite a rare breed.
  2. I'm sorry for your loss
  3. My best dogs have been older dogs. I guess because you have kids you need to weigh up how much is the price of their safety with a new dog? I would be happy to pay $1500 for a well socialized GSD with basic obedience. I woudl actually prefer to get a GSD run on by the breeder at that age rather than a puppy age. It's good to know you have the breeder to fall back on if things don't work out
  4. I don't know a lot about either however, a friend did the Delta and she is so delta delta delta POSITIVE ONLY IYKWIM. She can't see any other way but what Delta preached. I have noticed with the NDTF'ers on here that they seem to be more open minded and use a variety of tools/methods.
  5. Panto, I haven't received anything - perhaps I gave you the wrong email or something dru dot cox at bigpond dot com
  6. It is priced better HonBun. I believe it is a marginally better food too. I was feeding HS before TOTW.
  7. Yes that is correct, according to the company who make Permoxin (Dermcare). I have used it liberally in the past on my own dogs and still use it as a flea rinse in my home based grooming salon. I have three cats. If you are sensible, it is a cost effective way to prevent fleas/ticks/flies.
  8. Just started my cats on this. They are loving it. Really happy with what I am seeing in the trays too! I had concerns as black hawk did not agree with them at all, stinky, sloppy poos. So I switched them to Royal Canin and they did well. Thought I may as well try to get them on TOTW to make pet food ordering easier - very happy!
  9. Yep, I know the drill only too well. They've had plenty of dogs, both pedigree and pet shop. So it's neither here nor there for them and I don't want to be too interfering. I said I would find out about the skin thing and put forward some breeder recommendations. They're not expecting a pup 'on demand', he is a breeder himself of working Kelpies so knows only too well about the ins and outs - but they are not anti pet shop and we have a huge pet shop locally here which offers a lot of different breeds.
  10. My lovely neighbours are looking at choc labs. I have in the back of my mind that skin issues can be a problem? Could people please recommend a breeder in NSW or ACT? PM if you prefer. They are experienced dog owners and would prefer not to travel too far. I am up against the local pet shop so time is of the essence  I think if good chocs are hard to come by they could be tempted by a black.
  11. Yes clipping will ruin the insulation (not really an issue for indoor dogs/non extreme weather)) and the coat more than usually grows back funny (thicker and curly). But as a groomer who ran my business in a tick infested area for many years you need to weigh up what is more important. Personally I would wait and see how you go before doing anything too drastic - but don't let the purists make you feel bad if it comes down to shaving off the coat. Get in a routine of tick searches, concentrating especially around the front half the body (although they go everywhere), good tick preventative such as Advantix in conjunction with a Bayer tick collar is the best start possible.
  12. My Pug had no interest in puppy pre school at all. He refused to play with the other pups and just observed from my feet. He is outgoing and social so I wouldn't worry too much :)
  13. Is she on here? I saw some of her pics on Fb the other day (renbury) and was thinking how wonderful it is that the dogs/cats are getting such good photos. I am sure it would double adoptions!
  14. I am the same Laneka. I try to time it with others thing I might need at the post office. Going in to town to collect my second order on Monday. It's worth it just for the friendly service from the Natural Pet Store
  15. She sounds gorgeous I also second Denise from PAWs. As Juice said the dogs go to their new homes with the works, she also provides fabulous back up and will always take her dogs back. She was terrific to foster for as no expense is spared if the dog needed extra vet work and grooming.
  16. My dogs liked it, but they didn't all do well on it. Sometimes it's just a matter of playing around with foods to see what works. I like to be able to feed all my house dogs the same food, so it's taken a bit of juggling to find one which they all thrive on. They are doing really well at the moment on TOTW. My Stafford and Pugs coat are the best I have ever seen - even after trying BH, Eagle Pack, Royal Canin etc etc. I've had a lot of clients comment lately about how beautiful their coats are looking
  17. Ellz, as per my previous post I am agreeing with you!!!!
  18. Absolutely! I am heading out at about 2pm and will be going to the produce store then. Otherwise probably won't be back there for another week but can certainly put them around the area too :) Did you hear back about stock and poultry?
  19. No I agree, you shouldn't have to child proof it. Dog proofing is usually enough to keep a small child out.
  20. Brilliant course of action and result, good thinking!
  21. I'm wondering that too. Must be a very nimble 5 yr old! My 7 yr old can't even manage the lower gates
  22. If someone can do me a sign as I suck at that stuff, I can put them up in the area. The produce store finds heaps of animals homes and the fact that he is used to being a ute dog already is a big draw card!! People love their utes and their dogs here
  23. Rosalie at Gladesville Vets sees loads of Westies.
