  1. Stay safe LL/ Hope your house will be okay!
  2. Is this the dog who recently had a tick? They can get complications afterwards...
  3. Yep, my Stafford bitch is weak nerved and trembles if there's yelling in the house. She's not ever been mistreated, apparently her sire is the same. I love her to pieces but wonder why the sire was bred from when he is renowned for being very soft. The breed should be game and confident.
  4. It binds within minutes, during this time most people are drying their dogs.
  5. I would just mix it up in a container and pour it over the dog at the end of the bath. 600ml would be heaps. I find it heaps easier than the spray.
  6. Excellent point, Dan. Agreed. I used to nurse in a large hospital. We did reception work in the evenings, but regular hours there were around 3 receptionists. At no stage were any nurses or receptionists allowed to give advice or opinions on medical matters and everything had to be deferred to a vet. Obviously nurses could answer basic questions. I think it's just a case by case thing. Ive just moved and they seem okay at the new clinic but as they are also livestock vets there are usually long waits as they get called out to emergencies a lot. I wish the nurses would call me and let me know rather than me going in to find out and having to wait one hour +.
  7. Invest in a containment system. You sound like you have very tolerant neighbours!
  8. I don't know what I would do. I know that sitting here now I think I would not leave any of them behind but I also wouldn't risk my daughters life or my life. If anything happened to me my daughter would have no parents at all so I need to be realistic. I have cat cages neatly stacked at the front of the shed and there is room in my car for dogs too, but the stock and chooks would be left to hope for the best. It would be a devastating decision to have to decide to leave my dogs or cats behind for any reason but my daughter will always be my main priority.
  9. How far North? There is one in Forestville I've used a lot. (Warringah Rd)
  10. I'm a huge convert to Comfortis! Ring your vet and ask if it's okay.
  11. Not in your area but for others in the future: Northside Emergency Veterinary Service 612 Warringah Rd , Forestville Sydney, NSW, 2087 Australia P:(02) 9452 2933 I've done the mad midnight dash to there many times.
  12. It's weird, one of my dogs get a serious bowel blockage if they so much as look at something indelible, the other one has eaten fresh concrete, liquid nails, Barbie parts, string, toys, ball parts - you name it, it's been eaten. Everything passes through without a hitch.
  13. I find it hard too, but then I wonder if they really think they are missing out on something or just aren't used to being alone. Like you, I give the other extra cuddles etc to make up for it but then wonder if that's really fair either as I don't think the other dog would relate to his day out as not having extra cuddles that night.
  14. I just saw the video on the news, it was just awful http://www.news.com.au/national/jet-ski-ri...r-1225978015434 A JET ski rider has been charged after allegedly being caught on video deliberately running down a black swan in a Gold Coast canal. The 19-year-old from Mudgeeraba has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly running over the bird with his jet ski on a Mermaid Waters canal around 1pm (AEST) on Boxing Day. Senior vet at Currumbin Wildlife animal hospital Michael Pyne said today the swan suffered horrific injuries and a broken wing, but there was a reasonable chance it would survive. "As I understand it, the jet ski had three attempts at hitting the swan and people on the shore saw it happening and had time to get their video camera out and start filming it," he said. "I'm not 100 per cent sure it will live, but its appetite's improving day by day but she's been pretty knocked around so I still wouldn't want to say it's definitely going to live yet, but I'm feeling confident, certainly." "It's taken off all the feathers, skin, muscle and ligaments - down to the bones of the joint," he said. "The problem is that the ligaments on the outside of the joint have been stripped off which makes the joint very unstable and if it's still unstable in a couple of weeks time we're going to have to look at fusing the bones of the joint together. "It should be able to fly, but not well, however swans can get away with that because they really only float around and only fly to get from one waterway to another and generally the waterway they come from is their territory and we'll look at releasing her back there." The teenager is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on on January 21. Read more: http://www.news.com.au/national/jet-ski-ri...4#ixzz19U1xKQU8
  15. I think that's someone with a good sense of humour! eta: My plumber had a Rottweiler and reckons he was 100 kilos, fit, lean and healthy. I can't use him anymore as it just annoys me too much when people get sizes, weights and breeds so messed up.
  16. Like I said I know plenty of other successful groomers who use them, not just 'one or two' on this forum. I know that they are not the number one clipper of choice and I am not stating that they are, but there are still professional groomers who use them. I am 'in the industry' and have no need to check what other groomers use or don't use. They can use what they like, it's as simple as that.
  17. Think about it. If it still does not make sense get someone to explain. What is your problem? You've stated that no professional groomers use Osters and I have stated that I know plenty that do yet you still insist that they don't. I don't understand why you are having such difficulty comprehending it.
  18. I still use mine. Still going strong after 10+ years. I have Wahls as well. I'm regretting that I parted with mine. I have worked in the clipper repair industry on and off for the last six years and can honestly say that I cannot recall any professional groomer using Oster as their primary clipper. No, but you don't know every groomer Oz wide. I can assure you there are plenty of us out there who still use our Osters. Becks, completely agree!
  19. I still use mine. Still going strong after 10+ years. I have Wahls as well.
  20. I know that just regular Osters and ......ah geez Ive had a brain fart on the brand I use, sorry - If you want to clip it longer you will need to wash and dry the dog first as their coat is hard to clip at the best of times. I think you'd struggle to get anything longer than a #7 through although it depends on the coat. YOu could try using a Wahl Stainless Steel comb over a #30 blade to get the longer length.
  21. Do you need to have your dog put under for this? That would be what would put me off .... No, I never have and I've taken a few dogs. eta: If the dog is badly knotted up it does hurt a bit at the start but they soon relax once the vet works the points. I think it's fantastic.
  22. Hi Erny, The vet is Mark Hocking at Gladesville Vet Hospital, in Sydney...so this may not be much help to you I've used him too for Trigger Point Therapy - terrific
