    Gherkin

I am so, so sorry Dotty. Gherkin has always been a stand out DOL dog for me, you must be gutted Thinking of you.....
  3. If a dog jumps on me it gets my knee firmly planted in it's chest. If I have my child with me it gets my foot in it's face. One of my dogs is a jumper, there is no excuse for allowing it to jump on people in parks. Dog parks are no place for kids. Throw the baby in a pram, clip your dogs on a lead and go for a walk. I am surprised they didn't bill you for the dry cleaning, I would have!
  4. I'm so sorry for your loss, he looks like such a lovely dog :D Dru.
  5. I agree. It feels like dobbing. I think I may?? have used it if I felt someone else was being hard done by or really foul language but not for anything to do with me personally. I don't pull any punches so I feel people are entitled to do the same to me and I roll with them.
  6. I would do it now. My rescue girl had luxating patellas in both legs then tore both cruciates. She had the lot repaired last year. Worth every cent (most days!).
  7. We bred Kelpies when I was a child. They got the cheapest dry food on the market, the odd fresh roo tail or leg and helped themselves to the compost cooked bones and all. They were very thin 'working condition', too thin IMO. The dogs whelped in outdoor kennels or gallon drums and the puppies stayed there. We rarely had a death. It makes me wonder if all this extra care and worrying about nutrition is to the detriment of our dogs. *says she who feeds Holistic food and dogs sleep on the bed* sorry, slightly off topic :D I've gone off on a tangent.
  8. I wouldn't leave them altogether (with your dog) unsupervised while you're out. Perhaps meet at a park for a few walks first. If at home and you have more than one dog, introduce your more dominant dog first - put him away then bring out your other dog(s) one at a time. Do it slowly, watch but also have distractions so they aren't all standing around staring at each other. I find it best not to encourage drivey games until all dogs are settled well. I've always found a walk is best if the dogs are prone to having a go, they get distracted and by the end of the walk they are used to each other and realise the other isn't a threat. I have no clue about Bostons but being a Terrier I would err on the side of caution. I remember many years ago a Boston breeder on this forum said putting a Boston in with other breeds can be like throwing a cat among the pigeons. Don't let their size lull you in to a false sense of security. I've hear they're a lot of fun, so enjoy!
  9. No I haven't, but it wouldn't hurt them to miss a meal - they wouldn't let me forget though. I have however, forgotten the odd baby bottle here and there . I promise my priorities aren't skewed
  10. What a great life Your dog will love it, just be consistent with everything.
  11. Ruthless makes very sturdy leather collars. Perhaps PM her to see some pics. I was in Pets in the City in NEutral Bay the other day and they had a fab new line of collar. They were marine grade and in nice colours, very sturdy looking without being OTT. I'm pretty sure they sell online so perhaps give them a call? eta: Found them! http://www.petsinthecity.com.au/Welcome.html They are on the front page in the bright colours with bone shaped buckles. They felt kind of like shipping rope.
  12. No, it's a mousse. So I just rub a small amount in my hands and then rub it through. I love Plush Puppy Products, my favourite is the blow dry creme - it smells a bit like Ponds moisturiser. eta: A lot of products go mouldy watered down so make sure you make a fresh batch each week if you use this method : )
  13. Oh please Step away from the computer and get a grip lovey.
  14. I use Reviva Coats on all my clients dogs ('cept terrier type coats). Clients love it!
  15. Congrats to all the nominees and winners Special Congrats to Ruthless who has taken some wonderful photos for me so I know how deserving she is :D
  16. I think it's a great idea. You will need to be vigilant around your children. Even though Staffords are usually great with kids a fight could break out between the GSD and Stafford and the kids could get hurt. Just be very watchful for the first few months. I would take the dog on a trial basis only. He sounds wonderful, taking on older dogs is for the most part, a lot easier than raising a small puppy. I would not hesitate to do it myself - the dog sounds like a dream!
  17. Yes , thanks I had misunderstood the OP. Talk about getting your knickers in a twist Poodle Mum Thanks Erny for clarifying for me.
  18. Ugh. You have my sympathies. My most recent foster has just been adopted *Hooray* I was worried he wouldn't find a home as sep.anxiety is probably, IMO, one of the worst things a dog can have. Little buggar barked and barked when left alone & got stressed, if he had access to outside he would escape to find people - whether he had dog company or not. Thankfully someone has taken him on. Go slow with him, perhaps ask for some pro help or he will bounce back. Good luck.
  19. ...tears to my eyes. Reddles is gorgeous, he looks picture perfect, looking forward to seeing many more pictures of him. Rocco will always have a special place in our hearts here on DOL, I bet he is pleased you've found solace. Wishing you many happy years with your spunky, new man
  20. Dogs eat their own poo and week old bones, I don't think a thong will bother them in the scheme of things.
  21. Yay, you're lucky! I think 8-10 weeks is pretty awful, 10 wks they just turn that corner so it's a great age to be welcoming her. Good luck :D
  22. I agree. Great photos to have
  23. ... or like today with a tiny little Poodle X Chihuahua being pounded by a Maltese X Shih Tzu three times his size Poor thing looked so forlorn.
