  1. Was that the breeder on RSPCA animal rescue tonight? One of the Cav's was called Kindee something or other...
  2. So true. I purchased a dog from DOL pages which was a health nightmare, the breeder was an ethical nightmare too. Georgia looks very sweet Bindi Boo. I hope she is bringing you much needed comfort at this time. Cavs are so sweet and built for that kind of lovin'
  3. Squeeeeeeeeeeeee - how cute are they!!

    Mastiff

That preconceived notion of the breed is more than likely because anything tan and larger than a Kelpie is labelled a Mastiff these days. This then leads to anything tan or brindle in the news for anything untoward and unable to be sensibly labelled a Pitbull, gets called a Mastiff. Very sad. I wish people would wake up and realise that Mastiffs are not on every corner block. Breed misidentification could very well lead to the end of the breed. I can't tell you how many Mastiff x's I groom Not one dog resembles any kind of Mastiff let alone the English. Lovely photos Hannah. I follow the Mastiff thread in hope of photos so it's lovely to see so many on the one page
  5. Please keep us posted. Good thing you are on to it and have her to the vets so quickly. Fingers crossed here for you both.
  6. I'm so sorry I remember when she was needing a home and you put your hand up. She was very lucky to have found you for her senior years.
  7. But what would be the point if none of the Vets (or anyone, for that matter) are going to be there anyway? Because the dog is given a thorough check over first thing in the morning. Where I worked the vet would sit down every morning and we, the nurses, would bring each animal out and they would have a good going over. Once hospital rounds are done, owners are called to fill them in and animals released to go home provided all is well. We, as DOL'ers, are more dog savvy than most. You would be surprised at what some owners do, or let their dogs do , after surgery......
  8. Sure. I know quite a few vets who do this. Most places it is incorporated in to the regular fee so you are not paying extra for it. Vets just like to know that the wound is clean and that the dog has recovered from the anesthetic well. The vet I use does it, always have, and it's not an extra charge at all (same with fluids). I am comfortable with doing it and know that my dog will sleep through the night well. If your dog is a major stress head though it may be worth discussing this further with your vet. Did you ask them why they like to hold the dog overnight?
  9. I'd ask your employee what she has previously worked with and prefers. One groomers preference might be another groomers nightmare.
  10. Keep her quiet for a few days too. Ticks can still cause problems once pulled off. It can take a few days for effects to present themselves.
  11. But what about the nits? If only it were that easy! When Grace had an outbreak I used Permoxin on her as none of the nit products were breaking the cycle. I only needed to do it once as I left it in for a few days all the little critters died. I used it on myself too. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it as a regular thing though. Good luck!!
  12. Oh my God, my sincerest condolences. My heart goes out to you, I know how much you love your gorgeous girl. What a horrible accident Sending you big hugs and thinking of you.
  13. The prices have gone crazy. I paid $1650 for mine almost ten years ago and I see them selling second hand for around $2000.
  14. I agree. I'm wondering if perhaps the blade is not on properly. Even a blunt blade will take something off a washed knot free Bichon. If you are anywhere near me I am happy to have a look for you and give you some tips.
  15. I've not ever had clippers last a half hour without getting hot. I am wondering what Nekhbet was using? As previously said it depends on the weather and the blade, but around 15 minutes tops. I think what you are saying sounds normal.
  16. ;) Where do you find the time?? Get that book up and running!!
  17. Good luck FF, sounds like a great shop :D I only wish I had more room to sell stock <insert green eyed groomer>
  18. So it is a myth that using hot clippers ruins them and/or the blades themselves? I've always wondered and tried where I can to err on the side of caution and swap clippers and blades rather than just blades. This is harder when the weather is hotter though. I've tried the clipper vac systems and found them cumbersome. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to them. I have RSI in my clipping shoulder so try to use the lightest clippers possible.
  19. 10 -15 mins - brand new wahl km2 That's normal. Use the slow speed you will get longer out of them. You could switch blades (although I have read using a hot clipper isn't great for blades) or also fine yourself another pair of clippers and alternate them.
  20. Same Kirty. When I had my mobile dogs were always fully dried. I don't give healthy, fit dogs a break here. I never have, salon or mobile. They are worked on from start to finish, 1-2 hours. I prefer to get them out the door which is why I stagger them in, rather than all in first thing. I would be concerned with not drying that the dogs may become more susceptible to hot spots etc? I think it pays to have the fluff and puff finish, but then you would have to charge accordingly Pesh so I guess it's all consumer demand. I know I charge around 120-140 for a Mal and the groomer who works with me gets her Mal done for around 40/50 elsewhere. That's a massive difference and I am one of the more reasonably priced groomers in the area.
