Pics of pregnant girl would be good also We saw a few Thai Ridgebacks when we were visiting Thailand a couple of years ago......Beautiful dogs, didnt appear to want to come anywhere near me which was good!! poochmad Posted April 22, 2011 Share Posted April 22, 2011 I don't mind the look of the breed, but not my cup of tea...I like soft coats and silky ears. Regarding some comments regarding the breed being immediately targeted as a 'dangerous breed', there are many breeds that have already come into Australia that I thought we would never get due to their history - look at the Cane Corso for one such breed, yet there didn't seem to be any jumping up and down when that breed was announced that it was here. Before anyone jumps down my throat for pointing out the Cane Corso, this is a large and very powerful breed, of which without proper training, socialisation and ground rules, could be potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. The same applies to the Thai Ridgeback - a breed that will appeal to some and not to others; hopefully those that do purchase a pup do with the right intentions and the right reasons; the same can be said for any breed of dog. But a temperament like that is a ticking time bomb.Just what we all want - dog AND human aggressive plenty of dogs like this already being bred in australia - pure and cross alike. I agree with Lilli people are just getting up in hysterics about nothing. I think we've forgotten that they're all DOGS with big sharp pointy teeth and you actually have to put in effort and skill to raise them to be good members of society no matter what the breed. We seem to live on this secluded little island and want wash-n-wear no effort temperament animals ... well not everyone wants that and those that do suffer for it. I would be more worried about breeders running the Thai Ridgebacks temperament into the ground in the long term turning them into ornaments then bogans getting a hold of them. Why have dogs so aggressive that no one can go near? I can understand a dog have a protective nature for use as a guard dog but to have to have it in a cage? Because that is their job over there. Friendlyness can mean the farmer/shepherd loses his flock, or his own life. Remember most other countries are nothing like Australia. IMO the Thai ridgeback looks like it's head is too small for it's body. I can't see it ever becoming a bogan breed of choice either. I think the SBT will always hold that #1 spot. oakway Posted April 22, 2011 Share Posted April 22, 2011 For those that are thinking of obtaining one. Talk to an All Breeds judge that has judged them. Most judges that I have spoken to say you are asked not to touch them. Most judges are pleased to do this as they are usually warned about the breed should they encounter them overseas. I have been led to believe that one is resident in North Queensland. I have checked the ANKC web site and can't find any recognition or allotment for which group it would be in, in Aust. Was about to say they are already here, and although I wouldn't own one myself they are an interesting breed and I am quite sure those that have brought them in and are breeding them will be very careful whom they go to.
