Harness Suggestions Dogs Can't Slip Out Of Needed

I have been using a harmony harness on my gsd's for regular training as I like the fact when doing off lead work I can pop a very short lead on the back piece should I need it but have recently brought a Walky Dog for my bike and one of my gsd's will actually stop and crouch down slightly and the harness can slip of over her head.

I'm only going very short distances with her(just in my street)and slow speed but as soon as you go up a slight hill she gets all woosey and pulls back and wants to stop.My other girl has had no problems and loves it

Any suggestions for slip proof harness's?.I think a harness would be better than a collar for this type of work

Maybe a sledding harness from Windchill? I use a Rogz harness on Chopper for cycling cause he pulls like a demon and it sounds like he's choking himself in a collar!

A harmony harness is the same as a sensible/sensation only the harmony harness is better. Besides dogs can slip a shoulder out of the sensible if they pull at the right angle, I have seen it done with the Gentle Leader Easy-walk and no matter how tight we made it the dog managed to slip it.

I'm looking for the right kind of harness for my boy on the walkydog as well....just been tossing up options.

I was thinking either windchill or blackdog tracking harness?

I've been connecting he walky dog to the top connector on the Harmony Harness.Maybe it might work better on the front connection or do you think that may cause a potential injury/

Slightly OT, but what's the deal with the harmony harnesses? We have an easy walk, but I reckon it's too big for Lil, particularly across the chest. I was looking at the kumalong (it's fairly cheap) because the design looks the same. I tried to get in touch with Jenny but no luck.

I paid $34.00 Aust for the harness plus postage came to total of $50.00. I do not believe that I could have bought a better product here for double the price.

Slightly off topic- but could there be a physical reason your girl doesn't want to jog uphill?

Has she been all checked out in regards to any joint/muscle isues??

or something else- to do with the noise the bike makes in a lower gear, or something??

if she were mine, I would be addressing this ,before buying more equipment

Hey Julie,

with the 'slipping' out of the harmony harness issue, I found that having the leash attached to both of the front attachments (ie so it's not like a slip) works well for the bouncey one.

I am about to try a Sporn Halter, which I bought today - I just can't control someone when she spots another person or dog in the distance... unfortunately we have spent the last several months walking in darkness at 6am when no other fool is out - so now, she spots someone..and it's soooooo exciting...WOOOOOOF...WOOOOOF...LEAP, somersault.... god...give me some strength!! so first stop is... Sporn, and I've asked Steve also for advice.

But I digress... will be at dog training next sat 6 sep so you can check out the sporn too

AFAIK fordogtrainers equipment is made and sold from Israel not the USA.

I would suggest getting a front attach harness, and also having a slip on the dog. If you clip your lead to the harness and the slip, if your dog gets out of the harness, the slip is still attached and the dog can't 'escape'. You don't have to use the slip collar as anything more than a safety net.

However, I would be interested in why your dog does not want to go up hill in the first place. :/

I tried her with the Harmony Harness again yesterday and today but with it clipped to the front and we had no problems.She's no longer whinging so I really think it was a case of her not being used to the exercise,not an actual physical issue.

I am quite interested in getting one of the harness's from fordogtrainers thatNekhbet and fordogs mentions as well(I thought they were from the USA as well,thanks for letting us know that Jeff))

Harness turned up in time for the weekend, and it seems to have worked well.

The difference with the harness is that she is further in front than when I had the walky dog clipped to her collar. She seems to prefer to run level with the front wheel.

did you find she pulls more with the harness on than with a collar kamuzz?

Today when i took one of my girls for a run with the harmony harness on there was a dog further up the path and she was really pulling,to the point that I didn't actually have to pedal so i stopped and turned around as it would not have been to safe should she have really taken off
