helen Posted November 29, 2009 Share Posted November 29, 2009 Currently I have a small huntsman living in the bathroom. It is welcome to stay as long as it follows the house rules:1. Stay up high 2. Dont feel tempted to go near my puter 3. Stay away from my ensuite. After seeing that living pinecone I have added two more rules: 4. Female spiders are no longer welcome 5. All spiders who live in my house must be celibate. All those who dont obey the house rules get a free ride in my dyson. I don't know if it's true, but someone told me that huntsmen drop down off the roof so being up high doesn't mean you're safe I can't stand having a spider up above my head after being told that (I vacuum them up too!) Huntsman can jump too, straight from the face of the dog that is playing with it right on to the leg of the poor unsuspecting person who happens to walk outside at just the wrong moment Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Huntsmans and daddies get escorted outside away from the house... the others are not so lucky. I've never seen a wolf spider... look at all those babies As a kid the huntsmans never bothered me inside until I woke up one night to something bushing my face, to see one on my bed! Chiwogabull* Posted November 30, 2009 Share Posted November 30, 2009 I HATE SPIDERS Especially since being bitten on the foot in Far Nth Qld putting washing on the line at the sensible hour of midnight, after it bit me i tried to dislodge it with my other foot and all it did was bite me again and again....ahhhhh now i'm screaming Blue murder enought to wake the neighbours to look over the fence I was too scared to walk over the grass to get back inside I WAS PETRIFIED... the thought of being attacked again finally made me move. The next night similar spider was seen throught the glass door attacking the tassles on the outside mat. My Goldie slept with me after that.I ended up with servere neck stiffness..like whiplash... 'if you want to live, you live outside' Even huntsmen die in my house, I'm terrified of them since I had one run up my arm when I was little. I saw the title of this thread, knew it was to do with spiders, which I am ridiculously afraid of (give me snakes any day) and yet I still looked! I especially hate the way they move..... eeeek On a brighter note, we've had hardly any spiders in our house since I treat every entrance spot once a month with lemon essential oil. Spiders just hate it, and wont pass through. So around all the wondows and door frames I wipe a miniscule amount, and I rarely have to kill an unsuspecting spider (only when they end up in the washing for some reason). I've had too many scary moments to think about, but the worst was having a shower when a huntsman dropped on me. I still get shudders thinking about it and it was 18 years ago. My most embarrassing was at uni when we were looking through the microscopes at leaf litter when I gave a small scream of "spider" then I realised I could only see the horrible hairy thing with a microscope. White tails I feel no remorse for but huntsmans yes. I would like to be able to leave them alone but I tried it once only to wake up with it walking on me. My clever girl Kibah knows I am scared of spiders and also must have an instinctive knowledge they might hurt her. That sounds like something I'd do, I went to uni and popped a lense out of a sheeps eye. Nil futher spider attacks to report. But now that summer is coming... prepare the battle walls! The Ark Posted December 5, 2009 Share Posted December 5, 2009 The things that make my skin crawl in this thread are not the spiders but the LIZARDS! I am fine with spiders and snakes (don't want to cuddle them, mind you, but can appreciate their beauty) but LIZARDS - HUGE PHOBIA! I guess I'm not scared of them, just can't bear to look at them and couldn't possibly touch them - they give me the heebies. Spiders are safe at our place unless they are redbacks, or I get sick of walking through their webs in the morning. I do like huntsmen, and will generally leave them alone. I climbed up this tree yesterday (dont ask lol) and I opened the little bird box thing and there was this massive huntsman just sitting there.. i almost fell out the tree!! ah i feel like spiders are crawling all over me now..... From the chart it is a House spider which can be venomous and it is living right near the lights in the garage and I am sure I saw it with a male the other day trying to make babies. For a year or more I let one live on the window sill right next to where I sat on the couch, thinking it is doing me no harm. One day there were many many little baby spiders there as well and she had to go. Now I wonder about my thoughs letting it live so close to me for so long.
