Many years ago i did vet nursing and I have very strong memories of various breeds, what i remember about bullies is we loved it when they were our patients, the ones i dealt with were friendly dogs that were easy to handle, you could do a number of procedures and they would not complain. we would call them Stoic. One of our vets had two white ones as pets and they were very comical but in no way guard dogs ...

I have a bully x which came to us as an adult ... he is the best! if i didn't already have three dogs i would definitely consider a bully high on my list of wanted..

so big fan here ...

Oh :o Atlas isnt a fan of the vets  he grows and crys and goes nuts, my vet is used to him and just does what needs to be done, while cracking up laughing at what a sook my Big Tuff Bull Terrier is

ahh ... but Atlas looks devine .. i'm sure he is just pretending and he really is a tough boy! i love your photo of him with the bin lid ...

I adopted a bully once as a relatives throw away.

To be honest I was a bit "wary" of her initially because of stories about them. :provoke:

Bert (yes she was a she!) was the best dog for toddlers. She was the most loving dog and simply adored my son.

If I can work out how to scan and post a photo after work I'll do it.

Yes I would call her stoic too. It was nothing to have toddlers climbing all over her.

She had treatment for cancer and would lick the vet as he was poking and prodding her.

We only had her for a couple of years but I thoroughly enjoyed her and would recommend a bitch to anyone.

I have no experience with dogs.

i have an old bully, used to have them in the uk too, nothing like them

i wouldn't call them smart, stubborn, yes, not like a staffy, who wants to please, bullys want to know whats in in for them :provoke:

i have always found them great with kids, and all of mine have not been at all interested in other dogs.this is the first time i have had a boy bully, and much prefer them :o

if you are interested, there is a young white girl in yagoona rspca, she was adopted from blacktown pound a few weeks ago, but she doesn't like cats, so was surrendered to the rspca :D

my boy mason

Atlas will sleep outside from time to time, but they love being with u, I am not a fan of keeping dogs outside, when I am home the dogs are inside.

Personally I would never take any dog that was an adult, I want a pup who I can shape and socialise myself, but many have taken on older dogs and had no problems

as for colour, tri colour is the best  from what I have heard reds are pretty popular, I have helped raise 2 litters and they only had white and brindle pups, but Ats litter has 2 reds!

Get a tri

Hi Jason,

That's probably my girl Pele that you've seen. Red is not a rare colour and is quite common in Bull Terriers

Most of whats said above holds pretty true. I'm not sure I would say that a BT is "highly intelligent" - Would love to think so but they're not in the class of a Lab for instance (I've had both of these breeds over the years).

They are trainable but you need to put a lot more time into them than you do a labby. The bitch I have here (lying on my feet right now after just getting yelled at for eating the catfood) is quite smart in a lot of ways. Lead trained, obedient, will sit (im)patiently and wait until she gets told she can eat and a number of other things. Her mother went to the highest level of obedience at the Obedience club and also competed in flyball.

Do they like fighting..? Nahhhh.....I agree with the poster above in relation to early socialisation and putting the time in with them. Also agree that they may not 'like' fighting but if they do, they're good at it. I've never owned a bully that was dog agressive, chased cats or any other creature. Again, all about the time we've put into them (I will declare I had one who bit a person once). In this house we have along with her (shes a Minature actually) - we have a Cavalier King Charles and a Chihuahuahuahuahua. The Chihuaha smacks the Bully up most nights. Always wins. The bully and the CKC have had a couple of fights always started by they Cavvy (jealous little wench).

They are almightily stubborn and if they dont want to do something, then you go get your block and tackle to move the buggers

There will ALWAYS be a bull terrier (or miniature) in my life. Can't beat em!

We also have a couple of miniature Bull terriers that share the house with a cat and a Chihuahuahuahua :o The Chi is ALWAYS the boss!!!

they also gain about 100kgs when they fall asleep in a spot you dont want them to be, making it impossible to move

Hahahahahaha.......so true, or for mine when you have to move them to have a bath..... :D

And they are lap dogs :D ;)

Yep they are lap dogs... and RED IS THE BESTEST :thumbsup:

big white fan here

my dogs live outside, they do have warm coats, 4 kennels on pallets to choose from, all with quilts and sheepskin in. :) and they are all under cover with barbeque blinds all round, so kinda enclosed alot.

i will always take on an older dog now, i am over destructive pups :)

i love bullyt's "baz" too. :(
