I am sure there will already be a post on here, but I just wanted to ask everyone to please light a candle for all the dog lovers in Japan, and there are many, and their pets. When that candle goes out, light another one. They are going to need all we can give.

Saw on the news today one Japanese family reunited with their pet dog who they went back to look for after the town was wiped out. Hope others are equally lucky finding their pets and loved ones alive.

This facebook page has updates about ongoing animal rescues in the tsunami-hit areas. Warning : some videos will make you cry!!!!!

The video with the two injured dogs completely killed me. :) :)

And the story about the lady who didn't evacuate because they wouldn't let her take her dog, so they stayed for three days in a shaking house.. omg. ;)

There's a group called World Vets International Aid for Animals. Based in the US, but it's a bit like a Doctors Without Borders, but for animals. I'd heard of them before, when the US Navy helped them out to get assistance to animals in Timor.

World Vets have sent personnel & resources to help with the pets & other animals in Japan.

Pics on their Facebook page, including the one of the little muddied dog reunited with its owner. (Looks a bit like a tib or peke).

It was a US tibbie breeder/writer of the breed manual, who told us about the World Vets group.

There are so many wonderful teams from many organisations and departments over there to help and they also need our support and prayers to get them through this.

The candle site is excellent and each candle burns for 48 hours, so you can go back there in a couple of days and light another candle.

My lantern candle in the garden only lasted 6 hours so will light another one tonight.

It appears that apart from everyone else Japanese exhibitors and breeders and their dogs have been very badly affected.

Some of you may already know about this lovely site.

The flames of the candles burnt so brightly last year when I was in desperate need of your thoughts and prayers and perhaps it helped because I am miraculously still here

Perhaps it may help in a very small way to bring some comfort to the poor suffering people of Japan.

Jed,

I just cant comprehend the enormity of it all in Japan. It somehow compares with watching 911 unfold on our TV screens. Numbing. Incomprehensible.

There was so little we could do last year, but lighting candles for you all over the place seemed like a good way of getting a message of strength sent around the universe. In cabins and cottages, in clubs, churches and in cathedrals, candles were lit in all sorts of places last year, with a message of strength.

The candles are symbolic, but they burn brightly and with sincerity. We can also reflect and hopefully feel grateful for all that we take for granted each day.

The Facebook wall of World Vets International Aid, has ongoing info & pics of their team's work in Japan. They're in the hard hit Sendai region working alongside a local shelter/rescue group. Lovely pic of a pretty grey puss that was found by a Japanese Army soldier who brought her into the shelter. World Vets also takes donations.
