Hi Mel :)

When i first read your post, I thought like some of the others, maybe theres a genuine reason why the breeder hasn't been in contact with you. Its always best to give everyone the benefit of doubt at first but its not looking too good :(

I had also wondered like some of the other posters, if something had happened to her on her flight to your place. And every dog is different with the settling in period. It does sound a bit extreme tho going by what you have written.

I hope you hear from her breeder soon!

Does she belong to a breed club where you could try to ask them if shes around the place?

The breeders of our Cavs are very much a part of our lives and we are even friends with them on fb :)

The breeder of our newest cav puppy has said even if we are worried about something (to do with Miah) even at 2am in the morning we are welcome to call her up! :)

Have you been in contact with the person who "referred" you to this breeder? You need some answers - sounds like the breeder is definitely avoiding you. If so thanks to her you now have a problem on your hands that will likely take much time and expense to fix. I don't doubt that the trauma was caused by the plane trip - it effects many dogs that way. Are you able to touch her yet - I am wondering if an anxiety wrap would help - poor little girl :(

Did you pay money for this dog? Take it to small claims court. If the breeder ignores that, they can be ordered to pay you a refund.

Poor dog. It sounds terribly anxious and is not suited to the purpose you bought it for. I feel very sorry for you having to deal with this.

You might need to see a veterinary behaviourist to get advice about whether it would be possible for this dog to lead a happy life with appropriate behaviour modification. Plenty of people will offer training advice, but that will not change this dog into one that you can take anywhere and enjoy socialising.

Sounds like there is not much you can do except wait & see what happens.

A couple of weeks is no time at all. The dog has had her whole past life taken away.

Think of when people emigrate & how long they can take to adjust.

This dog had no say in her life, where she was going, when or who to. She won't know what is going on but may settle at her own pace. I wouldn't be too concerned this early on.

Obviously one likes to give the benefit of the doubt, but the breeder's lack of response to your concerns sounds very suspicious to me. Even if something has cropped up in her personal life to prevent her getting back to you, there are surely other people in her business she could get to return your calls :( ?

Most ethical people who adopt out dogs whether they be breeders or rescuers are in contact that evening and then after a couple of days to check that all is going well or to discuss any problems .... Just to give support.

This person's lack of interest if it be that, makes me very concerned about al dogs in her care :(

I have two timid dogs and although they are light years away from what you are experiencing, it can be very depressing and disheartening to see their behaviours.

You wouldnt be concerned that after two weeks you couldnt even get close enough to put a collar on the dog?

That's a seriously anxious dog. Not just a shy one.

Mmm. that was my thinking... I have been a vet nurse previously (although low pay put a stop to that aftr a few years and i returned to my career :-) and a foster carer in dog rescue on and off for over 10 years or so so have some experience with anxious dogs but her behaviour seems very excessive although i am no expert and will admit it !

Is there a breed club you could contact for advice? If worse comes to worse they may be willing to take her off your hands and rehabilitate her if that is possible. Poor dog has been let down badly by original breeder. If she did indeed have a timid nature to start with why would you sell her on to travel interstate if you are a caring breeder?

Send a message that you will be taking the matter further if you don't hear from her within a certain time period. Have the information ready and tell her exactly what you are going to do so she knows you are serious. I'd be starting with small claims and I'd also advise her that you will be making a complaint to DogsSA. If she has been less than honest in the past she won't want more trouble. It's not fair to be told the dog is one thing but really turns out to be completely different.

Yay, Good news !!!! The breeder just called and has been Overseas....... The little dog is going back to her home this Thursday..... its best for her and us as she is obviously unhappy here. We have decided not to take the breeder's offer up of another little dog (this one's daughter) as we think the are too many hassles when it doesnt work out when you are interstate...its been a tough lesson for us to learn.... we will be returning to a one dog household...... thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions !

Best outcome for you. Poor little dog will probably be a wreck by the time it gets back to the breeder - hopefully it will recover in time. I hope this breeder does not attempt to send it interstate again.

No, she sounded genuinely concerned.... Im hoping the little girl will be glad to get home and back to her pack !!! I will be like just a bad dream.......
