Do You Trust Your Vet?

Thank God that all my dog ever needed from the vet is a yearly vaccination. I dont trust that man at all. The whole clinic is run by nurses that have been less than helpful (yes you can combine rabies shot witll C5, yes if your dog has vomited once ONLY during the day bring him in straight away, he might be dying, etc)....

Rabies shot just totally made me mad: We will be going overseas so I asked more for info sake if you can give C5 and rabies together, of course you can, only to find out later that most vets would NEVER give them together as rabies shot is pretty strong on its own....

Oh, yes and they are charging almost $80 for C5 booster and what they call check up.....

Anyway, I am wondering how many people really TRUST their vets, and also, are there any good ones in Melbourne that people would strongly recomend. :(

We go to Monash Vet Clinic and I trust them implicitly. They are experienced repro vets and Ray Ferguson is an HD specialist. Many of the breeders/show people I know go to Monash and I really cannot recommend them highly enough.

Ditto, can not agree with Miranda enough and not only Ray who is increasingly in greater demand and at the same time decreasing his hours but also the other vets at this clinic.

Michael Bell at Craigieburn VC is also excellent if that is better situated for you.

Ditto again. I live in Narre Warren and Monash is around 20 to 25 minutes from me and i wouldn't go anywhere else. I've seen Ray for repro problems with my girl and i think i've seen almost all of the other vets there and i can't recommend them highly enough. I just got my girls vaccinated there. The first is $73 and then decreased for each additional dog. They do a very thorogh examination as well.

I have seen John Hillman at the Lort Smith. Only charged me $25 for a consult to check Skoots eye, very thorough, worked through the dogs fear as well. Cant see anyone else doing an eyeball scraping off a cranky mastiff :(

You already have heaps of reccomendations, but I'll add mine anyway

Dr Nicole Hoskins at Prahran Vet Hospital. She was the only vet I could find who would do a vaccine antibody titer test for me.

If you don't want to be hard sold on the "over-vaccinate, give your dog Science Diet because they pay for my holidays, treat skin problems/ auto-immune diseases caused by over-vaccination and Science Diet with this super expensive product and drug I sell" line that my last vet peddled, I highly recommend her.

(Sorry for the rant - Can you tell I've got a bit tired of vets with that attitude? :( ).

Dr. Jenny at the Manningham Vet Clinic in Bulleen is fantastic!!! They were my former vet before I moved to the country and I cannot recommend them high enough. The nurses and vets are all fantastic! they will always listen to your concerns and continue to give me advice over the phone whenever i need it. They're also very close to the eastern freeway, so easy to get to from cbd, eastern and northern suburbs.

Just wanted to say that the vets in Gladstone are all fantastic. They don't pretend to know everything and when they don't they phone a specialist. They all listen to the owners intently, even the neurotic ones because that's where most of their info will come from. I just love a vet that will tell you what he/she thinks is going on but will ask for a second opinion from a specialist. They even express mail clinical details and x-rays for second opinions from specialists. Don't you think that's just fantastic!? Anyway, I trust them absolutely. Sorry, NOWHERE near you though.
